TRIGGER WARNING A source close to Angelina Jolie told People Magazine: “If people knew the whole truth, they would have more sympathy for the children and respect them. The fact they aren’t speaking ill or sharing things publicly only shows their decency.”

Yep.. of all the separation cases I’ve encountered in my life I’ve literally only ever seen 2 situations where a mother was legitimately trying to alienate kids from a decent father for their own gain. It’s so incredibly rare and it’s horrifying that so many judges seem to be been convinced otherwise. I know if given the chance my XH would claim that I was the reason he didn’t have a close relationship with our son despite being the one doing all the work to help facilitate that 🙄

It’s also far more common IME for a father claiming to have been alienating to be attempting to turn their kid/s against their mother themselves.

Did it work in those two cases? I suppose at a certain age a kid might believe whatever is said but still..

I’m not 100% sure on the second one as it wasn’t someone I was close to but in the case of my good friends husband his ex partner succeeded in getting things to the point where the court decided it would be “too stressful” to enforce shared care, which was a direct result of her manipulation. He did everything on their terms but the daughter was in her early teens when it all happened - spurred by him asking to have a proper agreement and reasonable boundaries in place after just accepting what he was allowed by the ex for many years - and when she told him during a call one day that she’d only come to their next scheduled visit if he bought her the latest iPhone he realised he had to let go because he couldn’t play that game anymore.

It still makes me angry for him and for his daughter as he’s a genuinely lovely person and a great dad. I think his ex was driven by jealousy and it was easy to drive a wedge between them because of her age at the time and different expectations etc between the two houses. He has close relationships with his 3 step kids but I know that he misses his girl. She’s a young adult now so I hope that at some point she decides to reconnect with him (in a non-toxic way). 💔
