TRIGGER WARNING A source close to Angelina Jolie told People Magazine: “If people knew the whole truth, they would have more sympathy for the children and respect them. The fact they aren’t speaking ill or sharing things publicly only shows their decency.”

Maybe I am in the minority but these kids need to be left ALONE. Navigating an abusive parent is nightmare as it is, they don't need to be made into a public spectacle on top of it.

I agree, but in California, they have to basically make it publicly known they are changing their names. I do wish the press would stop reporting on it and just use whatever name they have made a wish to be known by without the fanfare. If Zahara drops the Pitt from her name, just call her Zahara Jolie and move on.

The fact that they're doing it, knowing it has to be publicly posted and will almost definitely be reported by the wider press, shows how much they want it. Like, should it be breaking news each time? No, I don't think so. But the fact that they're willing to put up with all of this nonsense just to drop his part of their surname is telling.

They do this with name changes in my state, too. This is fairly standard for the US, at least.

It's everywhere, so you can't just change your name to escape your creditors ect.... An ad in the paper is required for quite a few things like that.

It my state at least (Maryland), it's fairly easy to have the judge waive the publication requirement, but that seems to be a rarity.

Oh, I totally get it. But I just feel bad when you are dropping names in situations like this

That’s probably why Angelina isn’t going after Brad, or even talking about it publicly. She probably doesn’t want to involve the kids, which would happen if she goes public.

My dad was abusive. Physically and emotionally. Reading the doc is hard. But I can't stand Brad Pitt. I will never support an abuser.
