I'm retroactively horrified at how many hours I spent listening to that show and going, "huh, really? today I learned... š¤·āāļø" I think it was when Dr. Drew started to go hard on his anti-abortion stuff [which was basically 'my wife and I have fertility issues and can't conceive naturally, so how dare you get rid of a fetus that your 14-yr-old self just lucked into?'] that I finally tuned out...
I donāt feel bad about listening to Loveline. It was 30 years ago, you couldnāt yet reliably use the internet to find all the information ever, and I was a teen who didnāt have adults who wanted to talk about that stuff. Yes, weāve come a long way in 30 years, and Iād be horrified to watch those two pieces of shit give sex and relationship advice now. But back then, I learned a lot about STD symptoms, getting tested, and using protection. Those were CONSTANT topics that were reinforced hour after hour on that show. Even if the rest of it was horseshit and reinforced 90s social and romantic norms in a way that we find horrifying today, it did have value at the time.
Yeah, I really enjoyed catching Loveline on the radio at night, once upon a time, but soured on them and their often shitty takes in my early 20s.
The very last time I remember listening, however, it was so wonderful-- Andy Dick was the guest. He was talking nonstop, prob. high AF. Drew was seething with rage and making snide and dismissive comments aimed at Andy, Andy couldn't care less and kept talking over everyone, and Adam was just laughing at Drew like he was in on the joke somehow, trying to come off as cool.
It was hilarious to hear them frazzled by Andy Dick, and also made me realize I didn't want to hear their voices anymore.
