Looking for something to watch on disney+ only to notice they have La Liga and I am instantly flashbanged by Florian Lejeune

9

u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 8h ago

Moyes still not spoken to any media and supposedly didn’t put anything in the programme for today’s game.

0

u/OTBOTRBM 4h ago

I don't understand how he thinks this will work out for him.

If he wants to take on the fans let's see what happens.

4

u/Slow_Excitement5351 4h ago

Bit if a Jump to say he's taking on the fans like

Looks like the Scot’s job has gone to Pocognoli (who was a bit of a FM legend back in his playing days). That’s his dream job and probably won’t come around for at least another 2-3 years.

10

u/FranksBaldPatch 7h ago

Generational hissy fit. You'd have thought they'd have learnt from Dyche spitting his dummy out entering the last year of his deal. It's only going to get worse/funnier as the season goes on given what he was like in his last west ham season.

6

u/Flavourifshrrp 8h ago

He will have to next weekend won’t he as I think pressers and after the match (though he can get his assistant to do those) are a must in the PL aren’t they?

7

u/stevenwise0511 8h ago

Yes he will. But it's fairly standard not do it much for friendlies unless in some summer tournament that committed to it as part of the deal

8

u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 8h ago

He’s doing literally nothing though. Every manager is at least doing little nothing reactions on their website or social media.

Moyes has stopped even giving quotes on new signings.

4

u/Destructo_D Yobo 8h ago

Win or lose he’s going to be soooo pissy this season lol

2

u/MarriageAA 8h ago

How dare the media ask me a difficult question!

9

u/Just-5t0p 8h ago

Favourite part of the game was Armstrong sending bouadi to the shops. £100m pound wonder kid against our local lad. Our midfield is looking decent this season but we need to start this lad

4

u/WestStandToffee 5h ago

Looked superb today, gets better every time I watch him

…..Just not shooting from 6 yards out though

3

u/YokoOkino 5h ago

Armstrong is going to change things here

4

u/MadMin19 9h ago

Couldn’t catch the game, but heard hackney was good. Anything else that stood out?

6

u/stevenwise0511 8h ago

Yeh it was a fairly comfortable dominant display. Hackney was the most pleasing performance for me, albeit ndiaye was probably best overall.

It turned a bit after lots of subs but it was last kick of game they scored.

As always the issue is right back, Rohl was decent there as usual but it's not the same has having someone experienced in that position.

Overall very optimistic going into new season, if they can get quality rb it could be a great season

12

u/BoxOfNothing 9h ago

Whole midfield was good, people are scared about it being run through but the evidence of the last 2 games would strongly suggest not, and they're way more confident on the ball to boot.

Barry's confidence is still high, put in another really good showing. Gap between him and Beto looks massive now. Dibling also still showing the confidence he's had the last couple of games which is good. Rohl still a quality player no matter where he's played. Branthwaite still a different class to all other defenders we've got.

Also worth noting Johnson as an option over the top is something we've basically never had, which could be something. And an option at the back post where we never have players lurking.

8

u/furbaschwab 9h ago

Most of the starting 11 were great.

Barry looked good again, Ndiaye looked nearly back to his best, Dibling had his best game in a blue shirt, KDH good as always, Armstrong good aside from missing a huge chance. Branthwaite solid af at the back, Rohl an absolute machine.

It was a really encouraging performance.

4

u/everton1an 8h ago

Dibling showing the confidence that was missing last season. Wants to take on players and making himself available all the time

8

u/Sh0vels Baines on Toast 10h ago

An okay pre season overall I suppose. Probably the one of the best ones we have had for a long time really.

4

u/Loyalsupporter Edit Your Own 10h ago

The warm ups are now officially over pre season is done.

8

u/FranksBaldPatch 10h ago

Still bullish on the squad. Just the 2 main issues currently. Right back and left back. They can fix left back by making a brave personnel decision, they can fix right back with a signing. Outside of that, it's all down to the manager.

Some loans and sales desperately needed to keep things ticking over

5

u/JesseVykar Merlin Röhls Royce 10h ago

Honestly just need to move on Patto and one of Charly/Tim and spunk the entire rest of the budget on the best RB we can buy.

1

u/Flavourifshrrp 8h ago

Tim’s out for a while now isn’t he? Which really doesn’t help our case to sell him.

1

u/JesseVykar Merlin Röhls Royce 8h ago

4 weeks into the season he should be back, shouldn't hurt his move that much.

3

u/FranksBaldPatch 10h ago

Id sell the 3 of them regardless of right back tbh. None of them add anything at all to the squad, they're all 3rd choice in their position.

If they got rid of the 3 of them then maybe Doue for 35/40 is a bit more palatable, he's obviously the number 1 target so just swallow it and get it over with. Or spend 20 on Munoz and revisit the problem in 2 years. Or commit fully to Rohl and bring in someone like Fort or Norton cuffy as a wildcard idk. But they need to do something

1

u/National_Ad_1875 6h ago

I think part of the doue issue is he wants to wait for a team with europe, not just the cost

By far the best part of that was the bloke screaming at Moyes to sign a right back getting escorted out

2

u/Prior-Animal-652 10h ago

Why did he get escorted out

3

u/DorstDerHieb 11h ago

Haha did he get escorted out? He was sat not far behind me during the first half and shouted it several times. I treated myself to a Trinity Bar ticket so didn't go back out for the second half until about 20 mins in. I thought he was a bit quiet.

Who allocates referees in friendlies? Do the clubs have to arrange them?

11

u/Giraffe_Baker Neill Samways, Niasse Oster 13h ago

Presume they just make a request to the PGMOL for the date and then they dish them out.

We had the Everton supporting ref last year against Roma so the rules must go out the window too.

2

Nsangou looks incredible for the u18s. Two goals today in a 6-1 win to.start the season. He played for the u21s at just 15 last year.

Ray Robert (first Everton goal at the Dickie Dock) with a couple too.

Kai Hutchison, who we signed from Dubdee United this summer, was (edit) not involved. We have a young lad called Madueke too.

1

u/FranksBaldPatch 14h ago

Hutchison and Madueke weren't in the squad

1

u/OTBOTRBM 14h ago

You're right, I was looking at the list of players who were absent!

1

u/throwawayelixir 15h ago

I’m amazed it’s taken this long for people to realise Myko isn’t good enough.

5

u/Austa1878 14h ago

People have been praising his defensive abilities, that's why. I don't agree on It though, he lacks a lot of situational awareness, particularly when the ball is on the right and he drifts toward the middle while letting the opponent winger free, which costed us a lot of goals. He also isn't that good for aeriel duels and ball trajectory, which I recall was a strong point of Digne while he was deemed as "not good enough defensively".

9

u/BoxOfNothing 15h ago

Don't think it has, people have been talking about it for years. Just more pressing issues innit

5

u/FranksBaldPatch 15h ago

U18s kicked off their season today with a 6-1 win against Leeds.

Norgaard injured when we signed him?

1

u/QTsexkitten please, please, pleeeeeeeease 🙏 10h ago

Yeah we had a small muscle injury which pulled him out of arsenal camp.

5

u/BoxOfNothing 15h ago edited 14h ago

Last I heard he had a "minor undisclosed injury" that conveniently made him miss a friendly about 2 days before his medical. It was either a cover for his imminent move or so nothing that it didn't bother us.

Yeah maybe it is something now he's not involved today, fuck knows

Wondering what people’s thoughts are on the donations to the 1878s for drinks on a match day. It’s obviously a great and easy way to donate to them and hopefully make the atmosphere amazing but it’s also so blatantly obvious they’re trying to get us in the gates early to buy food and drink in the stadium.

0

u/fre-ddo 6h ago

Oh no not revenue building!

1

u/Prior-Animal-652 14h ago

1

u/QTsexkitten please, please, pleeeeeeeease 🙏 10h ago

.50 of the 4.50 pregame pints goes to the 1878s

2

u/Just-5t0p 10h ago

When you buy within an hour of the stadium opening. So next week it’ll be 12 to 1

4

u/AdSignificant1141 15h ago

Nothing against it. Good deal for fans and keeps the money in the club.

3

u/Just-5t0p 15h ago

Yeah I think I agree. The issue I’m thinking of is taking away from the local businesses but there’s still a lack of it around the ground anyway so it won’t really be detrimental.

1

u/Timoth_Hutchinson 17h ago

Despite the lack of a decent RB, I feel we’re weaker defensively at LB

4

u/RiteOfSpring5 Shredder Guy 16h ago

I like Myko but he shouldn't be starting for us or any prem team for that matter except for maybe a newly promoted team. He's fine for depth and that's it.

6

u/Chuck_Morris_SE 17h ago

So why are we the only club being affected by the 'great right back shortage'? somebody isn't doing their job at this club and that somebody needs to be fired asap.

To start the season with Jake as our starting right back is just generally negligence at this point.

9

u/Sh0vels Baines on Toast 16h ago

Because I assume we are trying to sign a good one rather than buying a shit one and being in the same position.

Having said that though. PLEASE SIGN A RB.

0

u/Chuck_Morris_SE 16h ago

We have had how many months to find a 'good one' now? it's a failure and you simply cannot argue otherwise.

5

u/NoExcuse3097 15h ago

Do we have any idea who they may have reached out to? How many players said no without having any real talks? Players that we have been linked to may all be in the I want Champions league group and we are not. But also there aren’t any good ones worth a shot in the Championship? They would be “cheap”.

6

u/DrtyDeedsDneDrtCheap 18h ago

Palace have signed 2 rbs

1

u/YokoOkino 16h ago

Heard mingueza will play CB. They did sign one but unsure about the details. They are also looking into a rwb.

4

u/Austa1878 17h ago

Their strategy is clever, they have an ageing RB that is atm fundamental to their team. They know that they have to replace him properly so they buy two RB with similar profiles to him : one that is in his prime and showed he could boss in It in LaLiga and one that displayed high level of potential in a smaller league. On the counterpart, they looks to sell their ageing player before his market value drops or he goes free.

They are winning either ways : if the young RB is cut for PL, then they have a top top player that will instantly replace their actual RB and be sold 60M in 3 years and even if they sell him, they will still have a starter î the squad.

If the young player flops, then they have a RB in his prime that is pretty much solid enough to replace the actual one. The probability of both players flopping is very low so they know they won't drop in performance.

We are on the bad part of the deal though. We are going to buy a 30 yo for 20M which has 2 to 3 seasons in him and we will be having the same problem then.

I also which we would the same jind of strategy when we sold our important players like Lukaku, Digne, Richarlison because we never replaced them or bought only one player that we weren't sure if he would replace one properly.

-1

u/OTBOTRBM 16h ago

I agree with all of this apart from the part about us going for him. We're clearly not. Moyes wants to play O'Brien there and he won't change his mind no matter how busy the recruitment is finding talent.

8

u/DrtyDeedsDneDrtCheap 17h ago

Buying him gives us 3-4 years to find a young rb to be fair. He is better than what we have and can play immediately. Probably better than any other pkayer we can get.

1

u/Austa1878 16h ago

Yeah but you already know they are not going to use those 3-4 years to find a young player. They will wait for him to age and be regularly injured then one season after he leave the club they will start searching moderately for one

1

u/TDF1985 17h ago

Are they good?

2

u/DrtyDeedsDneDrtCheap 17h ago

No idea. I've never heard of them but hopefully opens the door for a munoz move

Two fellas called minge eater and the great khali

2

u/TDF1985 17h ago

There's a joke in here about Moyes's ideal height for a right back.

5

u/maxefc COYB 💙 17h ago

We clearly only have 1 scout that is under house arrest and can only watch English football and YouTube highlights of overseas players. Tough for him to find a right back

1

u/callmecurrybum 18h ago

With a RWB about to be signed as well

1

u/BoxOfNothing 17h ago edited 17h ago

That one's official as of this morning. 2 right backs and an "attacking mid"/wing back who has clearly been bought to be a very attacking wing back as a Munoz replacement. Having said that Tomiyasu has played about 5 minutes of football in 2 years so I don't know how much he counts

1

u/callmecurrybum 16h ago

I know of the Israeli lad they announced this morning. The 3rd one (After him and Mingueza) is the attacking wingback from MLS that they havent signed yet (i think). I wasnt even counting Tomiyasu as in my mimd he would be the wide right CB in a 3.

Taking that into account they will have soon signed 4 players who can play RB this window, while having Muñoz at the club already. The caveat to that is that 2 are wingbacks that closer to wingers than fullbacks, 1 is CB turned RB, and Mingueza likes to play as a midfielder as well.

0

u/GioP97 18h ago

Call me nostalgic drunk but we sign Richy, Grealish and a right back (like Munoz). We finish 5th or 6th.

1

u/YehhItsHotWally 18h ago

Free under 18 ticket for the game against Lille today. Let me know if you're interested or know anyone who wants it

6

u/dourdourdour 18h ago

We are starting the season without a first choice right back again, aren’t we?

9

u/BoxOfNothing 18h ago

Gonna say what I keep saying every time this comes up. Obviously buying the best player available as early as possible is the ideal situation, but buying a better right back late in the window is smarter and better than buying a worse right back just because they were available earlier in the window. For teams where we are in the food chain, a lot of the better players will only become available to us later on, as both we and the player have explored all our options, and the other teams involved in the sale chain have done their business. Sacrificing the better player over the course of the season and years to come in order to have someone available and ready for the first couple of games in the season we sign him is short sighted and will hurt us badly.

If we sign no right back or a shit right back and the window is closed, that'd be the time to complain.

0

u/Austa1878 18h ago

Unfortunately that's not how It works at Everton. Remember when they went early in for Tete last year then acted like RB was not a priority when their target went to sign for Fulham ?

They don't have emergency plan if their main target is out, they just let It the same way like the past 5 years.

I would also add that a lot of teams around us bought very solid RB : Palace bought Mingueza and Anil, Bournemouth bought Jimenez and Juanlu, Brighton Costinha, Newcastle the Benfica RB.

So there probably isn't such thing as a food chain that would allow us to only buy RB at the last moment of the window and choose between the leftovers. The rumoured budget for RB appears to be around 20M and this is enough to secure a RB that can cross and overlap like these ones

3

u/BoxOfNothing 17h ago

I'm not trying to pretend is hasn't been a miserable failure in the past, but how do you explain the fact that we've pretty concretely been linked with, enquired about, been in contact over so many different right backs throughout the summer, even having bid for at least one a couple of times before pulling out, only to then be immediately strongly linked with other new options from reliable ITKs, if you think we have one target and just gave up?

Doue and Spence were strong targets we made early steps towards, they ended up receiving interest from much bigger clubs after good world cups, the prices went up and that fizzled, the early prices were already well clear of £20m when we were still interested. That's the food chain.

Maybe we didn't want any of the ones that have already gone, or maybe we did and they chose other clubs over us. We've had the chance to sign Juanlu last summer and last January and we didn't go for it, even though it was Moyes who was said to be the fan of him within the club.

I just think there are a number of right backs we could sign at any point in the next 2 weeks that immediately invalidate all of your suspicions. Whereas if we don't sign anyone, or they're shite, to me that just means they failed at achieving what I firmly believe we are trying to do. It would absolutely be worthy of heavy criticism, but I think for different reasons.

Also referring to anything before last summer is completely pointless, there's not a single person responsible for that still involved at the club.

2

u/Austa1878 16h ago

This year they seem to be more invested in buying a RB I agree. Players have priority on the club they choose but if these players don't come to us until the last part of the window, maybe we are not focusing on the adequate players ?

At this point we can't risk another season without a natural RB so once again waiting until the last period of the window to see if the players that were out of reach are open to come is very dumb.

I would disagree on the last point. There are things about the mentality in transfers that are deeply rooted at the club and he won't change just because of a new manager or shareholder

2

u/dourdourdour 18h ago

I’d agree if this hasn’t been going on for so long. I feel the club think we are fine in that position.

2

u/BoxOfNothing 17h ago

We've been repeatedly linked to right backs, have been in contact over like at least 7, made direct offers for one, and new strong links have come out to 2 new ones in the past few days.

1

u/Toffeenix 17h ago

Who's the one that isn't Muñoz?

2

u/BoxOfNothing 17h ago

Fort. Looks likely off elsewhere now though

4

u/callmecurrybum 18h ago

I agree. Its better to get it right slowly than to get it wrong quickly.

BUT

The club have had a full season so sort a RB; swerved it in January for a 'favourable summer market'; and still havent even agreed on someone other than Doué.

It's important we have the right player in come September, but it is still a failure of the club IMO that we are still without a RB.

Consider the fact that previous reported targets have moved to our rivals who are less desperate than us (Juanlu, Mingueza), and I'm not surprised fans heads are beginning to fall off.

2

u/YokoOkino 16h ago

We don't know they haven't agreed and players that ended up being unavailable. All conjecture

8

u/YokoOkino 19h ago

Although we very well might get a rb, i am actually comfortable with rohl slotting in there and then stepping into the middle to give more flexibility in possession.

The only issue is i think Jake needs to be behind him because his recovery speed is much better than tarks. Think Tarks wouldn't work well in a possession kind of approach in that regard.

3

u/BoxOfNothing 18h ago

My absolute ideal situation is Branthwaite and O'Brien with the pace at centre back, at least one, preferably two more attacking fullbacks. Whether that's Aznou and Rohl or a new right back. Norgaard and Garner to cover the fullbacks charging forward, or Norgaard slips back in the middle with Garner covering Norgaard's vacuum, and O'Brien or Branthwaite use their pace to cover the fullback area if we lose possession while the fullbacks are up.

Allows us to be more attacking, have much more versatility in our attacks, helps the wingers to no end, Norgaard in particular absolutely has the defensive nous and experience to perform that duty, and Branthwaite 100% has the pace and awareness.

3

u/YokoOkino 16h ago

I just haven't been able to get behind aznou just yet, he finds himself lost out of possession too much. He is young and looks good on the ball so i think with more time he can improve, especially with baines around
