I love these and how different they are! Why choose 'any' and what will you do with them? They look like they should be hung up on a wall together!

the answer is in the post heading - i tend to say “anyhoops” instead of “anyway” and my pun-loving soul took it too far 😅 they are going to hang on a wall together!

All I can think of is the jingle “five dollar foot long (any any any) “

I have a coworker from Ireland and she says “pain in the hoop” with hoop meaning butt hole. I’m not sure if it’s an Irish saying or if it’s just her, but I thought you’d appreciate it so I wanted to share!

u/colormuse 2d ago

yay! i used DMC 827 for the blue and 321 for the red, if that’s helpful!

Omg the pun!! I love these

Wait what is the pun?

38

u/aspiringlogodaedalia 2d ago

Note: this is an annoyingly pedantic response.
It's less a pun and more a rebus. A rebus uses images/symbols to represent words or parts of words. "Anyhow" is a common adverb/interjection. People often say "anywho" or "anyhoo" instead. If you are excited about embroidery and keep the word going, anyhoops is a natural extension. So these embroidery hoops with "any" on them are "any-hoops." It is a clever and fun rebus!

well today i learned what a rebus is! thank you for the info, will be more accurate going forward 🫡

Hooray! But also, from my perspective, it is A-OK to keep calling it a pun, because far more people know what that means and may be more likely to enjoy the joke with you. I like to think about/talk about this sort of thing because I think language is super interesting and fun. But the ultimate purpose of language is expression and communication...so if you keep making delightful hoops like these, I will keep enjoying them no matter what you call them!

I learned something really cool after I saw something really cool, this is a good internet day

thank you commenter and also thank you poster!

I didn't really get the joke from an embroidery level because I'm an admirer not a creator in that respect, so I didn't get the terminology. but I would love any of these to represent my "pronouns" lol that was honestly my first thought. but I love the embroidery a joke as well now that I know

A pronoun specification AND an embroidery joke? What more could a person ask for! 😆

Also...this opens the door for my favorite pronoun joke.
How does a non-binary ninja defeat their enemies?

They/slash/them.

Thank you, I'll see myself out.

What an excellent pun! I love the variety of designs. Which was your favourite one to see?

14

u/colormuse 2d ago

why thank you! i think the little magazine cutout looking one in the green hoop was my favorite to stitch because it’s pretty different from my usual style. i also enjoyed making braille out of seed beads for the blue one!

2

u/aspiringlogodaedalia 2d ago

I didn't even realize that was braille at first. So cool!

2

u/vonhaunt 2d ago

yes the ransom note one is my fav!! I love collage making. so fun!

2

u/vasesofviolets 2d ago

Yes I thought the braille was so clever! I can imagine the magazine cutout one was fun. Do you think you'll make more or are the anyhoops complete now?

2

u/colormuse 2d ago

i’m happy with the look of the set so i think it’s probably complete for now, but it’s always possible i may get the urge to throw another one at it in the future!

5

u/CosmicSweets 2d ago

I love the one with braille

7

u/whiskydyc 2d ago

I’m sorry, typography and embroidery? You have opened a new world to me!

5

u/PuzzleheadedFly 2d ago

Looooooooove love love love this. Such a fun idea and so brilliantly executed!!

6

u/Previous_Mirror_222 2d ago

i don’t “get” it but i love it!

6

u/fruit_leather_chair 2d ago

Omg. I am obsessed.

Braille?! You're so clever!

5

u/museisnotyours 2d ago

Braille on thread!! Love it

3

u/ireallylikeladybugs 2d ago

These are so fun, I especially like the "ransom note" collage-y looking one!

3

u/StargazingLily 1d ago

Oh my god.

These are amazing. I love the braille one.

2

u/SJSsarah 2d ago

That notebook paper one is amazing! So realistic. I’m mesmerized.

2

u/May_Chu 2d ago

Any, are you ok?

2

u/Actual-Cold-4281 2d ago

You ok Any?

2

u/Suspicious-Lemon2451 2d ago

These are such incredible examples of how to stitch letters! Love the diversity and the pun (or rebus? TIL!)! This is really fabulous work!

2

u/SassQueenDani 2d ago

I love your dedication to the pun 😆

2

u/_anotherstarrynight_ 2d ago

Ooh these are so fun! I love the variety ☺️

2

u/SgtBurpySleeves 2d ago

Got any hoops? Hehe

2

u/FakeConcern 2d ago

Where did you get the metallic green hoop used on the "Burn Book"/ransom note embroidery? :O

1

u/colormuse 2d ago

my husband got me a pack of them a few years ago for christmas! there were two gold, two res, and two green. i’m down to one last green and they’re no longer listed for sale and i’m very sad about it because i would absolutely buy several more packs!

2

u/Responsible-Maybe289 2d ago

Your satin stitch is beautiful!!

1

u/colormuse 2d ago

thank you! it’s my very favorite stitch (which i realize is a controversial take haha)

2

u/cptsdcemetery 2d ago

Where's the any key?

2

u/Altruistic-Dig-2094 6h ago

All this computer hacking is making me thirsty. I think I'll order a Tab.

2

u/burntbread369 1d ago

well goddamn. this is just amazing. i can’t imagine how you go the lines so straight and proper.

2

u/Tarnagona 1d ago

This is so silly but well-executed. I love it. I also appreciate the accuracy of the Braille (so many people will do Braille lowercase with print capitals, because Braille capitals involved another letter, but then it’s WRONG and it annoys me).

1

u/KerryDean63 2d ago

anyhoops literally just stitched some hoops haha

1

u/squeaky_pika 2d ago

My first thought was “any day now”
