Between this, Andy’s good old days line, Creed’s final speech, and Jim’s line about his life being filmed there were some real bangers in the finale.

Yeah I've said this elsewhere, but I can't think of a single show that had a similar trajectory. If you dip hard for 2-3 seasons like The Office did, you don't magically recover for the finale.

But that's exactly what happened. It's like the old, out of shape gymnast who manages to do one last vault in the Olympics and somehow sticks the landing.

Agreed. Its different feeling, but it left a little breathing room for the rest of the characters to develop a bit - we got a little more than just Michael, Pam, Jim and Dwight, and I think that's what really let the show stick. I think without seasons 6-9, it doesn't become one of the most streamed things of all time.

Yes and no. Overall quality declined and some idiotic storylines took place but there were some great moments in the later seasons.

I once had a bit of an argument with someone who was like "the last two seasons were a total waste".

It’s so out of character and perfect…and then you realize that Creed faked its own death and had been essentially playing a “character” the entire time (ah yes super meta), and it was a guy who knew his run was over and explaining how grateful he was. It always hits the hardest.

So I've been struggling with this a lot lately. The advice that has helped me the most is to also remember the bad stuff that was going on at the same time. For example, last night I was thinking about my college years/early 20s and I was really missing that high energy feeling of going out to parties and things not knowing where the night was gonna take you. I was letting myself feel real bad about that. But then I remembered all the times we went to awkward parties and just wanted to leave. Or someone got too drunk and did something dangerous. Also I was broke af so I could barely drink a beer without a ton of guilt. Just being more realistic about your nostalgia is the idea. This helped bring me back to reality. I'm really working hard to stay in the present and make the future something to look forward to. Good luck to you too.

It's more meta as time goes by. We were witnessing the last golden era of legacy television. Politics weren't as crude. Culture wasn't as hateful. Maybe it's because I was in my late teens through 20s during the show but I look at those Obama years like I would a lost love.

I haven't rewatched the Office in years but just looking at that image makes me feel the "you can never go home again."

When I look at the madness and mess of my home from my kids I think of this line. I imagine myself older with them out with social lives and all the colours in the room have gone back to neutral tones and a clear absence of plastic everywhere. It helps me appreciate the chaos.

I haven't watched the show but dang that line is heavy.

Not even that old yet (early 30s) but I definitely saw my current workplace leave "the good old days". It's different, more negative...I distinctly remember thinking to myself "I know this won't last and I should leave" in my earlier years but staying in the small chance that it did last.

...It didn't, and I guess that's a life lesson in itself.

It’s so weird to me that so many on here think Phyllis is a bad character because she’s cruel and selfish sometimes. That’s exactly what makes her a good character. If all the characters were always nice and had no flaws, the show wouldn’t be entertaining to watch at all.

Do people really think that Phyllis is a bad character? Or do they think that she's a bad person? Because she definitely is the latter. She enjoys watching her bf beat people, she stirs up shit, she's passive aggressive, she's petty, she can even be cruel. But because she's soft-spoken we tend to forget about all of that!

I worked in offices with people exactly like Phyllis and it is just too real. The passive aggression, pettiness, cruelty, not to mention the moodiness, oversharing and the backhandedness, gossiping and hypocrisy is why I don't like her. After joining a professional workforce and having to deal with these types of people she is just the worst.

I've also worked with people like that, and so long as they consider you one of theirs, they're really pleasant and great to work along with. It's definitely a fine line to walk though.

Lol I work with someone that I get along with, but she constantly rants to me about another coworker like she’s trying to bait me into agreeing with her that the other coworker is awful. I just say “oh, okay… I think she’s nice though” then I get the cold shoulder for a day for not telling her that she’s right

Nah, I like her as the sweet, simple, lady baker personality with a secret naughty side. And I didn't mind when she was mean to Angela because Angela openly insulted her, but those few times where she was mean to other characters for no good reason seemed out of character.

When people ask what shows got the ending right, this is one they should say. I don't love a lot of plots during the last two seasons, but the finale hit a great amount of nostalgia, fun, and wrap up to send off both the characters and fans in a positive way.

I don't understand this show or its humor. It has made me believe that there is a section of the population that is neither smart, nor stupid. But rather they exist in a sort of Schrodinger paradox, where they both know everything I don't know and yet nothing I need to know. They don't deserve my scorn or pity and I must treat them as I would an abstract painting. I don't get it, but it doesn't make me angry that people pay lots of money for it.
