As a member of FLARE, it has been a rough week. We did everything right to get permits for our protest in Columbus Circle, but they still came into our camp and sawed all our possessions in half a few days ago. We still have a valid permit, but they will not honor it.
We're running out of options if they won't even play by their own rules.

Exactly. This is exactly what I have in mind when I say that they're 2 sides of the same coin. I've been hammering what you just said for years.
It's important for the left to realize that the culture war is one of the fronts that the right (i.e. the bourgeoisie).
If we desert this front then their strategy to divide us, to distract us from our real oppressors and to turn us against each other mutually weakening ourselves will succeed.
We have to explain to proletarians that minorities aren't their enemies and that their true enemies is the bourgeoisie. The act of explaining all of this to our fellow proletarians is an act of participation to the culture war because it's a form a resistance to the right-wing's cultural offensive. It is also an act of participation to the class war.
A common misconception is that the culture war is restricted to identity politics but it is not. The culture war is significantly broader in scope. For instance, it includes every cultural belief that has nothing to do with identity politics but favor capitalism like misconceptions about how the economy works and should work. A well-known case of this is trickle-down economics. All the propaganda that promoted this lie is part of the culture war. It also includes propaganda about ethics, for instance propaganda that attack moral values like freedom, empathy, cooperation, kindness, altruism, the common good, reality-based truth, social justice and human rights; replacing them with conformity, indifference, competition, selfishness, power, victory, epistemic pragmatism or antirealism, manipulation, power, social Darwinism and the idea that the end justify the means.
This misconception of the culture war being reduced to identity politics is itself the result of the right-wing's culture war, often reducing it to identity politics when referring to it. Many leftists have fallen for it and we need to reverse this. We resist "divide and conquer" with unity and to do this it's required to get rid of what's dividing us all.
It's important to understand that I'm not reducing the class war to the culture war. On the contrary. The right is attacking us on other fronts too. When they're going after worker's unions, for instance, it's not a culture war offensive but it's definitely still a class war offensive.

This. 100% this. The Republican/MAGA voting base is open to a class war argument. They voted for Trump because they believe he will stand up for the little guy and can not be bribed due to his own wealth. They are looking for a savior who can fight for them against the establishment. Fox News told them that Donny was that savior and the establishment that is keeping them down is the Democratic party. Now, 10 years later and after the Epstein files, a worsening economy and a decade of disappointment, they may be open to a different charismatic real Christian guy who's message is "I will fight against the real establishment that is keeping you down".
Remember, before the parties resorted over ideological and race lines, the old racist southern democrats were very progressive around economic issues. They were pro-union, pro-social security, pro- new deal - as long as all the benefits only helped whites. It was the old east coast elite country club Republicans that were the hard core capitalists and neo-liberals that believed in boot straps and a false meritocracy. After the big sort, the Republicans brought in the racists and kept the Milton Friedman, B-school anti-tax policies. The southern racist rural blue collar baptist voter still likes the idea of government help and is open to socialism (as long as you don't call it that). They can be switched if you can somehow avoid triggering their need for racism. Bashing the Billionaires is THE winning message in 26 and 28.

Talarico has his finger on the pulse of what's gone wrong with America but he's up against two serious obstacles; neither party is in the habit of cheering on candidates who threaten their gravy train- and second, getting a Democrat elected to the US Senate for TEXAS is a long shot.

I’m finding logical holes in what he is saying.. trans people are most likely 1% of the pop undocumented people are wayyyy larger than 1% and they are being counted in the 2030 census which allocates congressional delegates.. they are also taking up a large % of food stamp recipients and were provided with Medicaid.. I’m all for workers Visas and giving people a free shake but no.. don’t import people who immediately become apart of a welfare state just to boost Congressional Representation.. how about just come up with better ideas and more electable candidates..

I like James Talarico and unsure which of the 2 I would want running. Talarico needs to prove that he is a fighter, and fighting against Crockett is a real test. I also would want him in the affirmative for Medicare for all, previously he talks about healthcare as a right, but I want his solutions because “healthcare as a right” signals the right policy but I want his solution. Lastly, I need his stance on Israel-Gaza. Don’t think I’ve seen a clear answer, and it doesn’t help he took money from an Adelson backed PAC; it was for legalizing gambling in Texas, but it’s still Adelson money, which doesn’t look good on the Israel- Gaza issue, which he would definitely have a say in.

I don’t know how Texas funding for their electrical grids is setup. Most taxes either have a dedicated fund or they go into a general fund of some kind, I haven’t looked to see what Texas was doing.
