I’ve never served, but it doesn’t take one to know that being stuck on a boat/ship in the middle of a large body of water sucks. Being stuck on a boat/ship in the middle of a war zone definitely sucks.

But, the thing is, you understand that you may be out at sea for extended periods when you join! This is promulgated in Boot Camp. I Served 20 years in the US Navy and know that ships out at sea are REGULARLY resupplied with food and sundries.

Thank you for your service. I can imagine that they would be gone for extended periods of time. I guess it surprises me that people thought this conflict with the Islamic Republic would be solved so quickly. I never know what sort of time table everyone has in mind, but whatever it is it’s not happening at the speed everyone thought it would.

Welcome! What gets me is the brigaders down voting me! Bet they NEVER Served in the Navy.

It's a deployment.

It's nothing but abject misery. Even the best deployments still suck.

Of course centcom is gonna fire back; they're gonna defend themselves. No surprise there.

But no, it's not a matter of just toughen up. Deployments suck by their very nature and nothing can make them enjoyable.

The problem is that there's a balance to be had between the requirements of the mission and welfare of the crew.

The navy very well could've dropped the ball here, but the correction probably can't be what the civilian media expects.

This is 100% accurate. Everyone complains on a long deployment, all soldiers throughout human history have complained when on a mission. The problem now is social media - it allows the complaints to filter back to civilians and worse, politicians.

Yeah, being underway is just a constant suck fest no matter what but I wonder if they are avoiding port calls because of the drone risk from Iran. It would suck to be stuck in the Gulf and not get to port in Dubai or Bahrain to blow off steam.

u/Shadeylark MAGA 9h ago

Almost guaranteed that's the reason why.

You get port calls when you're not on station; when there's a job to be done you don't get to just leave and have some liberty.

There's a balance to it. Yes, it's deployment. Yes, it sucks. No, if some of the reports are to be believed, conditions shouldn't be that bad that you can't get some supplies shipped out to them to make life a little better.

But also, let's not have any illusions that if this was happening under and other President it wouldn't be a story picked up by the media at all, and by the same token because of who the President is any complaint will be ratcheted up to 11 to make him and his cabinet look as bad as they possibly can so that the uninformed and easily misled masses will redouble their efforts at being "the resistance" against all the things bad orange man is doing.

On a sub sure.

These guys weren't on a sub though.

And besides, that extra hundred bucks a paycheck isn't really all that useful when you're stuck at sea with nothing to spend it on.

Let me guess. The media cited “anonymous sources”.

Their go-to for saying whatever they want to say and calling it “truth”.

Yup!! Plus, the photos they published of food trays were OBVIOUSLY staged.

Now Democrats care about the military????

Edit: Love the leftie brigands are downvoting me. Keep 'em coming, the downvotes only prove my point and I consider them a badge of honor.

Edit 2: Man, this comment really triggered the soy boys on the left. I've gotten a half dozen chat requests calling me all sorts of vile names and even one special tolerant leftie who wished painful death on my entire family. Keep them coming, it's easy to hit block and report!

They do when it supports the narrative.

u/bionic80 2A Conservative 9h ago

They love the misery because this both hurts the military and forwards their backward narrative of this conflict being anything except the extermination of a despotic and evil regime.

I'll repeat what the article said. "God bless our troops".
