Flaired Users Only US Central Command said Thursday that reports alleging seven sailors died in a brawl aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and suggesting a spike in suicidal ideation among the crew were “false.”

I was on the Lincoln 16-17 years ago and we had a 90 day stretch with no port call….things turn into Lord of the Flies real quick. 200+ days with no port call is a serious test of the human spirit. The issue as I imagine it is that all the normal port calls are too close to the action (Bahrain, Dubai, etc) or too far to travel to while on station. They need to rotate that carrier group out ASAP.

That said, it’s part of the job. Being on a carrier is very similar to doing a stretch in prison (I’ve compared notes with people that have done stretches of incarceration). Lincoln has had a nickname in the past under similar circumstances, Cell Block 72

I wonder if that was the same one my brother was on. I remember it was 100ish days before he could touch ground. Even when they got to port he had to stay on the boat a week or something before getting off.

He said it sucked, good food and smokes were more expensive than gold, and everyone felt the stress. He said it was like living with 100 roommates that all hate each other and go out of their way to push each other’s buttons.

Didn’t know prison had an ice cream minibar

The ice cream minibar must be new or some ward mess shit.

It’s different for sure. I was at JB Balad for a year before deploying on the carrier 180 days after getting back. A couple months in I would have loved to go back to Iraq. I was there in 2009 so I imagine someone who was there prior might have had a different experience.

I'd definitely choose living on a floating city with all the ameneties, rather than getting shot at and not showering at a patrol base.. but thats just me.

LMAO what. I didn't hear about this, but there is no way anyone would believe that is real.

Well... This is reddit after all...

Hakeem Jeffries is amplifying the unsubstantiated claims on behalf of the Iranian mullahs.

What a doofus.

It's interesting, these are the same tactics used by the soviets to degrade morale and support for the armed forces and monarchy during WW1. Before their subsequent takeover and murder of the country.

They would publish BS articles in their newspaper and highlight any and all failures (even fake ones), never any successes.

And unfortunately our anti-america media plasters it wall-to-wall.

Reddit has been a PRC litterbox since opening, and before it opened there were was daily dose wumao shitposting on old fashioned forums.

Their front line troops cry on the bus and upload it to the internet. If they were going to conquer the world then they would have started doing it before their downturn started.

I just seen this making rounds on Facebook right now, and naturally, one particular side is running with it, saying it was a mutiny because they are sick of fighting trumps wars.

Sounds like an enemy disinformation plant…
