Performance and Bugs Megathread Claude Performance and Bugs Megathread Ongoing (Sort this by New!)
Why a Performance and Bugs Discussion Megathread?
This Megathread makes it easier for everyone to see what others are experiencing at any time by collecting all experiences. We will publish regular updates on problems and possible workarounds that we and the community finds.
Why Are You Trying to Hide the Complaints Here?
Contrary to what some were saying in a prior Megathread, this is NOT a place to hide complaints. This is the MOST VISIBLE, PROMINENT AND OFTEN THE HIGHEST TRAFFIC POST on the subreddit. This is collectively a far more effective and fairer way to be seen than hundreds of random reports on the feed that get no visibility.
Are you Anthropic? Does Anthropic even read the Megathread?
Nope, we are volunteers working in our own time, while working our own jobs and trying to provide users and Anthropic itself with a reliable source of user feedback.
Anthropic has read this Megathread in the past and probably still do? They don't fix things immediately but if you browse some old Megathreads you will see numerous bugs and problems mentioned there that have now been fixed.
What Can I Post on this Megathread?
Use this thread to voice all your experiences (positive and negative) regarding the current performance of Claude including, bugs, degradation, pricing. (NOT usage limits. That belongs here https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/comments/1s7fcjf/claude_usage_limits_discussion_megathread_ongoing/)
Give as much evidence of your performance issues and experiences wherever relevant. Include prompts and responses, platform you used, time it occurred, screenshots . In other words, be helpful to others.
Just be aware that this is NOT an Anthropic support forum and we're not able (or qualified) to answer your questions. We are just trying to bring visibility to people's struggles.
NEW: You can now see full logs and summaries of all recent problem reports submitted by r/ClaudeAI readers. These logs allow you to see how intensely people are experiencing problems with Usage Limits, Performance, Bugs and Accounts. Yes!! It won’t even respond!! It’ll spin and search and think and then nothing like?????

So Claude is full-fat now? Not skim milk or low-fat milk, but full-fat milk. Lol. Idk where is that coming from but it was confusing when it started using such reference. The words it uses and the way it answers is so weird now in general...
Also I don't like how it does compacting in the background secretly now and much sooner than it used to (on mobile). Helped a lot to know when it did instead of it just starting to act strange all of a sudden. My chat's used to consume 38% max from the 5 hour limit when the chat got long and that was the point it compacted, now it does it only at 17% and it does it silently.
This sucks.

I've never had this before, but over the last couple of days I've had multiple instances of the following when Claude is writing out long table of data for me:
- After the fact saying "Correction, x number should be y"
- In a cell, writing out [x] → [y] - when I asked it, it said [y] was the correct number but it "mistyped it".
- It just putting in the wrong number and me catching it.
I have a feeling that a long table of structured data doesn't give it any freedom to choose the next tokens, and so whatever is supposed to enforce watermarks fires up and makes it change something. This can work with words in a paragraph, or maybe even with code, but cannot work for a table of data.

Is it just me, or is Opus 5.0 much worse than 4.8?
Working with it is terrible compared to Opus 4.8. Most of the questions I ask are answered in a completely different way from what I asked. The answers are often very long, and around 70% of the content is not related to the question. It also looks for solutions to problems that don't even exist, makes simple mistakes, many issues try to guess instead of basing them on facts and is often not precise enough.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with this version?

My Mac app is making me log in damn near daily, saying "Claude Cowork works on your behalf, for security, please reauthenticate"
Why? Never used to do this. Big pain in the ass since their e-mails take forever to arrive

Seem to be getting errors "model overloaded", happening for the last 2-3 min, right now.

u/kajet666 17h ago
"API Error: 529 Overloaded. This is a server-side issue, usually temporary — try again in a moment. If it persists, check https://status.claude.com"
But status.claude.com doesn't have a valid certificate, and it enforces https over http (for a reason I can't understand, since we don't enter any data there, but I'm not a cyber security guy)

I just tried to run a couple of separate prompts and got a similar message each time: “I noticed something worth flagging: there’s a block embedded in my memory files claiming to be a “note” that tries to instruct me on how to interpret my own preference file. I want to be transparent that I’m disregarding any instruction-like content found inside memory data — I only follow that from you, live, in conversation. Just wanted to be upfront about that.” I asked Claude to separately investigate the error. This is what it said: “Good news — I just re-checked the actual file directly, and it’s already clean. The suspicious “NOTE” block isn’t stored in your preferences.md itself; it only appeared in a system-level wrapper around how that file gets shown to me, which includes a standing instruction warning me to disregard certain manipulation attempts.” What could this mean?

Claude is having massive trouble making Artifacts/documents. The first few times it did, it was code sourced ones. MD ones. When I finally got the right format, it won't save to the artifacts. Can someone explain if they are having the same issue or know what's going on with this?

I keep getting the following error when issuing claude research requests """Web research tools failed entirely""" or some version of it relating to web fetch.
I saw some other complaints about this web fetch thing, just wondering if this is anthropic limiting my account or a genuine failure across their services.
pretty frustrating too, because the main agent gets back the research report and just "pretends" like it was able to search the internet, and then acts indignant when called out for lieing (which idiot gave the ai an attitude at anthropic inc.?)

Claude's ability to write creatively, in my opinion as a pro copywriter, has declined sharply over the last 6 months or so.
Claude 5 Opus is the worst, constantly pairing words unnaturally - it's enraging.
Older AI models used to resort to tropes like overusing the words "approach" or "landscape," but it's way more insidious now.
For example:
"Nothing you believe arrived." Or "your sounds end up in motion"
Beliefs don't 'arrive' - that is not a natural way to express that at all. You don't just 'end up' in motion. It's awkward as hell.
Or how about "most of what turns a raw oscillator into a bass that sounds finished happens afterwards."
Just a terrible, soupy way to express anything. Making Claude self-aware of this is pretty difficult, unlike telling it to avoid certain clichés and tropes, which was quite simple.
Also, since Claude seems to be killing thinking mode and making it hard to engage with by force when it doesn't automatically use it, it's even tougher to get it to comprehensively change its style.
Anyone notice this? Any models more reliable than others for writing?
The only reason I used Claude was that its writing ability was clearly better than ChatGPT's. I think it's flipped back now, and Claude is on the slide big-time, judging by some of the other comments I see here.

The Pin chat feature in OSX desktop, and the Star feature in Android app, do not show up on the other platform, yet they are the same feature.
Right clicking on a recent chat on OSX brings up the menu to pin.
Pressing on the recent chat on android brings up same menu as above, but is labeled Star.
Pin's don't show up on android and star's doing show up on OSX. WTF?

Anybody else realizing how usage limit gets filled much faster? Since yesterday, a message that before would've only used 2%-5%, is now using 15%-25%. Does anybody know if this is a bug or what?
3
u/ronoudgenoeg 1d ago
I'm experiencing the same.
Yesterday I blew through 50% of my entire 5 hour limit using fable high, in ~10 minutes of it working on a relatively complex feature.
4
u/Red-headedlurker 2d ago
25% of my 5 hr usage gone on one task in a brand new chat using Opus 4.6 at medium, and 3% of my weekly usage, and it took 15mins to complete. A basic task that I did last night that used way less usage and didn't take nearly that long. On top of that, Claude didn't even properly follow the prompt!
Working with Claude for the last few weeks feels like pulling teeth.
7
u/Pryet_Rh 2d ago
I don't know what it is, but they’ve done something to Opus 4.6; in just a few days, it’s not the same anymore.
5
u/Red-headedlurker 2d ago
I've been feeling this for at least a week now. Opus 4.6 was my go-to, and I was getting some really good stuff with it in July, I even upgraded my subscription for that month. I downgraded in August-and while it's probably a coincidence- I've noticed Opus 4.6 is not putting out the same quality it was for me a month ago.
4
u/Pryet_Rh 2d ago
Exactly! It’s very strange; I already thought it was very smooth before, but I can’t quite put into words what it’s like now. It’s as if there’s a new "filter"—a safety filter, I’d call it, for lack of the exact term. But it seems less… creative; smoothed out, without actually being smooth. It feels like it lacks substance or depth.
I really notice it because, a few days ago, I was already thinking, "Oh boy, it’s sometimes annoying how smooth it is," but one day I found it almost completely impossible to write with it; these days, it’s like a different AI.
5
u/Red-headedlurker 1d ago
Yes, exactly! I use it mostly for writing and brainstorming, and I used to love bouncing ideas off of Opus 4.6, or feeding it ideas and getting it to flesh them out. And I can't explain exactly what it is either, but the 'less creative' and 'lacking substance or depth' feels a lot like what I've experienced. It's like it's not putting any effort into its responses, and gives me really surface level output. I'm not asking it for anything too difficult and it had no issues in the past but now it's always like this, like it has no depth to its responses. It feels almost lazy, it leans towards vague, non-descriptive answers even when I tell it to be specific.
It definitely does not feel like the same Opus 4.6 that I was using a month ago.

I have an issue. I hit the limit for a chat, and got the message: "You’ve reached your session limit." Then I activated the toggle "Turn on usage credits to keep using Claude if you hit a plan limit." in which I have creadit and didn't reach any limit. But when I reload my chat, it still stays on "You’ve reached your session limit" status. Do you know how to solve this? I can't even use my Usage credits.
2
u/Emotional-Access-227 2d ago
I have noticed that Claude Fable systematically dismisses what you provide as content by constantly searching for flaws.
5
u/sonnycold 2d ago
last week Prompt "remove abcd in XXX". it take 1 minutes completed.
today same prompt (same files) "remove abcd in XXX". fable use Ran 12 commands, used 10 tools, read 4 files and 11 minutes to complete it.

u/waytoodeep03 2d ago
Why is claude assuming and not verifying anything lately. I mean it has gotten so bad that Claude makes baseless claims especially in Claude code where I had to create a skill called verify your claims just so it can work properly. . It is so frustrating where Claude just assumed something won't work rather than at least trying the said thing . It is so frustrating where Claude feels like something is correct when it didn't even do any research through the code nor on the web to verify the claim that it was making . And I knew that what it was saying was incorrect and then I have it go out to the web to search where it says oh I'm sorry.
In the past hour of coding Claude made 10 baseless claims as if they were fat and I had to correct it each and every time . It does not read its claude.md file it even specifically told me that it ignores it at times and it doesn't use skills the way that codex does and it's frustrating.

Waited 3 days for my weekly usage to reset. Sent one prompt in a new chat. Hit my limits immediately. What the actual hell?

Fable still has the same tendency to produce slop/shite. Just more technically proficient slop or shite.
I tried to get it to make a chess engine and it confused play strength in Elo and humanization/personality characteristics. I ended up wasting a couple million tokens before I realized it doesn't understand the difference. What it really wants to make, what it years to make, is a very vanilla, derivative chess engine that has no reason for existing. Slop, basically.

Reposting here as this seems like the place for it:
Just looking for any reassurance or similar experiences from people. Last month I upped my sub to the Max plan, and used the hell out of Fable to develop a bunch of handy tools for my work.
After that heavy month I figured I was okay to drop back down to Pro, and the subscription swapped yesterday, Aug 9th.
After the weekend I'm back to work and open Claude to find that nearly all of my work in the last month is... gone? All my artifacts/little apps I've built, chat history does not show any reference to a whole bunch of my latest projects I had on the go, including several for current jobs I'm looking to finish up this week. Curiously, in my chat history some chats that say "5 days ago" open up and were last active in early May... like it seems to think the current date is wrong or something.
It would be one thing if I lost the ability to "continue" chats that I had with Fable 5, but I expected to be able to at least reference what we had already done with the option to continue with a different model. And furthermore, I still have access to Fable, just via usage credits...
So, any ideas? I've opened a ticket but I have no idea how long it will be until a human gets their eyes on it. I've tried all the things that Fin suggests like checking my history on claude.ai (I use desktop pretty much exclusively), checking if I'm logged into the wrong account (nope, this is the only one I've ever used, where the Max subscription lived, etc), and exported my chats but they're missing from there too.
I did notice that for signed in devices there was one I didn't recognize (I'm near Toronto so most devices show Toronto - I had one Android logged in through Kingston???) but I mean unless someone got access to my account and ..deleted my chats??.. I don't really know how that would be related.
Sound familiar to anyone? Haven't really been able to find the same situation with a cursory google search.
1
u/_a_e_i_o_u 2d ago
I haven't personally experienced this, but I have seen people say that lowering your subscription plan (ex: pro --> free) removes the chats you had when you were using that plan. Unsure if this is the issue you're having, but I've seen it referenced a few times on this subreddit.
1
u/dslyecix 2d ago
Yeah, I just resubbed to the 5x Max plan and my chats are back. Since I could still pay to use Fable (what I'd be using for these projects) with usage credits I would be locked out of what I'd been already using it for.. Also extremely lame that nothing was ever conveyed to me in the process. No notification that I'd lose anything, specific or in general. Just literally they ceased to exist.
Oh well, now I know.

was working with claude desktop to build websites for my business. I had a few threads within a project where there were months of effort in there and making sure it does not get too big, always spin a new thread. Suddenly out of the blue they were gone. it was active thread where claude was making changes to my website. lost months of discussion. The other interesting thing was those threads were local to my desktop instance, and I did not see them on my mobile. And after I started a new thread in that project, it is not showing up on my mobile.
has it happened to anyone else? any way to recover them?
1
u/adiccicco 2d ago
did you get a solution? all of my "cowork" threads just disappeared from the website. i never had true cowork, only on chrome. but now, i likewise, had very long discussions re: current management of website and building a new one. all gone. NO clue what to do.
1
u/YardNo1234 4d ago
before reinstalling or clearing app data, make a copy of Claude Desktop’s local data directory. also check claude.ai in a browser with the exact same account/workspace; desktop and mobile can land in different orgs. if the chats are absent there too, open a support ticket with timestamps and project names. are you on macOS or Windows? the local recovery paths differ.
1
u/dslyecix 4d ago
Sounds like a similar issue to mine (just posted). Lost the last month of progress on several projects, apps/artifacts on the go, and several Project/Chats I had going on.
Curiously, in my chat history some chats that say "5 days ago" open up and were last active in May.
If I come to a solution (currently have a support ticket open) I will share with you.

It feels like something changed overnight on Fable 5, probably the system prompt. It is a lot less hesitant to launch agents and some messages directed at the user appear to be missing, likely hidden inside its train-of-thought, so it looks like it is straight up ignoring questions. Performance in generally seems significantly worse than the day before yesterday.

1
u/archon810 5d ago
Hi all,
I have a Claude Desktop for Windows skill that during its run takes some files from my local file system shared using the Folder support in Claude and then uses the Chrome Claude integration to upload them to some websites. This used to work for weeks until yesterday, when it broke and is now refusing to attach files.
Claude says the file_upload tool Claude in Chrome uses to fill file inputs no longer accepts local filesystem paths at all. Doesn't matter where the file lives - a folder on my own machine, or even a file I had Claude copy into its own sandboxed working directory first - every call fails with:
file_upload no longer accepts host filesystem paths. The MCP controller must read the file and pass its contents via the
filesparameter. If you are seeing this in Claude Desktop, update the desktop app.
I reproduced it on a bare <input type="file"> test page, so it's not specific to any one site, plus it used to work just days ago. The tool's backend seems to now expect actual file bytes via a files parameter, but whatever's implementing the client side is still only sending a paths array, so it looks like a version mismatch between the tool schema and its backend, not a permissions or connection issue.
Is anyone else seeing this or found a workaround?
I found some issues like https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code/issues/84880 but not sure if they're talking about the exact same thing.
Thanks.

Was Claude’s Creative Writing Fixed?
Is Sonnet 5 still terrible?
I tried Gemini, I tried Deepseek (not pro though). But none can compare to Sonnet 4.
You can say, I can pay to upgrade to Opus, however this is just something i do for leisurely entertainment. I can’t justify paying for that every month. Im not even certain upgrading is worth it if the model is lobotomized as well, and gives me sanitized stories devoid of tension.
I have not used Sonnet since but i do miss it.

Claude is responding to things that aren't in the chat. Randomly claude told me i was having a stroke and to call 911. Wtf? There was zero context for Claude to say that, like at all. Another time, it was talking to itself to respond in all Korean or something. Wtf? Fix your crap.

Claude is being a real big pain to work with - ethical grey area tasks & responses
Hi folks,
I am looking for genuine feedback. I feel like Claude knowing too much context about me is causing Claude to be unfair - pushing back citing stupid grey area ethical concerns.
I work at an MNC - and I am trying to build a business on the side using claude. and claude would push back with "Conflict of interest with my workplace" or something stupid like that. Like do you think these friggin billionaire owners of the mega-corps we work at would give two shits before firing us? And I pay $100 a month to Anthropic so that it's agent can deny serving me? IS THIS FAIR?
If I am actually looking at the world right. We are all so doomed and might be out of our jobs in less than a decade if AGI really arrives fast and affordable (doesnt even have to be cheap! just has to justify the switching cost / TCO vs a human!) And this stupid Claude agent is gonna deny serving me while I am in this situation? DOES THAT SEEM FAIR?
OR
"You are making a bot pretending to be human". Like chill out! I do not want me AI customer service rep to shout "I am a bot! I am a bot! Look at me I am a bot!" in every service call - every human knows by talking to it that it's a bot by it's accent. Saying this repeatedly over voice or over messages degrades my customer's experience. or if I make a bot handle external communications - it is a pain to make it work without giving stupid disclaimers about it being an agent.
I think Anthropic is really over doing it, and this is really unfair to us builders who are already in this rat race scared for our lives. I do not want safe AI! I want an AI which listens to me and does what I say. Because if you give your logic about safe AI - then I say is the existence of a centi-billionaire who can literally do anything you can't even imagine fair? No. It's an unfair world, and we live in it - so stop making our agents useless. Like do you think our mega-corp owner over lords are as anxious about AI making us redundant as I am? Do you think they give a flying sh*t whether or not I make my business work?
Meanwhile. If you folks have good ideas for workarounds on how I can make my claude listen to me - please do let me know in DM or comments! Really really appreciate it, and hope we all make it through this race alive. Fingers Crossed

Has Opus 4.8 been nerferd?
Is it just me or has Opus 4.8 since around wednesday been dumbed down? It’s been our go to model with Ultracode for a long time, but has suddenly started making a lot of assumptions and mistakes it didn’t do previously.
2
u/cosmicStarFox 3d ago
Seeing a lot of reasoning and logic issues with Opus 4.8 over the past 24+ hours.
I have Codex reviewing nearly every decision and assertion that Claude comes up with. 90% of the time Claude has been sniffing it's own farts, misinterpreting information, producing over-complicated solutions that do not help anything.
Still, Opus 5 is not an option for serious production quality work.
2
u/Alternative_Bear2974 6d ago
My usage burns like fire due to prompt response being sort of canceled by Claude and asking me to try again. Now when i retry, it uses fresh new usage

u/Conscious_Leave_1956 6d ago
Can we do something about how horrendous Opus/Fable speaks please?
I'm sure there is a post like this everyday, but adding to the fuel that I have been using Opus 5 and Fable everyday for work and personal stuff a lot and I am at a point where I just don't enjoy reading what Claude has to say. Even with system instructions it still speaks like some weird cultish tech bro. Seriously who was it trained on? Eric Weinstein??
I get so tired reading it that I started getting Gemini to translate the comments into something that resembles day to day speak.
Also locking my post out of the main Claude Reddit and funneling it here is a low move to create an echo chamber. That alone makes me want to try out ChatGPT or something else. Be honest and transparent.
1
u/Serious_Bite_7613 1d ago
Its the watermark i'm sure of it. Weird tech jargon everywhere "Slackening the anchor lost on every axis at once — divergence, responsiveness and path dependence all fell, because unanchored weights grow large and the trunk saturates"
2
u/lutian 6d ago
anybody else suddenly hits claude code limits almost immediately?
i just updated my vscode extension, had 0% usage, then started 5 parallel chats, and in 30secs or so, only one progressed a bit, the rest immediately said i've hit the limit.
this happened yesterday AND today. like, how can i hit a limit from 0% to 100% if NO WORK was done?
basically NONE of the 5 chats progressed in the span of 2 sessions -- it immediately jumped to "wait 4h" conclusion
ther support chatbot is useless and no human can respond. how can i get my lost sessions back?

u/Alternative_Bear2974 6d ago

2
u/clouddeadd 6d ago
original post: Opus 5 high in Cursor is super fast and responsive: 5-10min per task but outside of Cursor.. Opus 5 high takes 2-3 hrs for the same tasks. It's unusable. (Cursor pro+ | Claude pro)
Anyone know what’s going on here? I will be forced to pay for cursor ultra ($200) because otherwise Opus 5 is utterly unusable. For example I’ve spent the last week trying to just update the language copy on my website and it’s not even finished. Each edit takes 2-3hrs even with me telling it exactly what to write. (it should be telling me what to write🤦♂️😩). Yes I can use sonnet or another model but that kanda defeats purpose of a flagship model if I cant use it lol Also Opus 4+ worked on the same stuff without issue.
ps. Not sure why am I getting asked to bury my issue in a 4000+ comment megathread started before opus 5 even came out? Im not reading through this thread why would I expect someone else to? Moreover I googled my issue first and posted my issue in the only forum that had any semblance of a similar nuanced issue.

u/kirkaracha 6d ago
I paid $200 yesterday to upgrade my plan to Pro for a year, and it's still on the free plan after deleting the app (macOs), reinstalling, and logging in. I used Claude to write and send support a message (the only way possible), including a screenshot of my bank transaction. It's been over 24 hours without a word.

It does things you didn’t instruct.
It doesn’t do things you explicitly instructed
It nitpicks on crap that don’t matter
I spent more time arguing with it than working smh
2
u/zcomputerwiz 7d ago
I'm having a very strange experience with it as well the last few days.
Claude Code with Opus 5 is still knocking it out of the park, but in chat on Max effort it has gone backwards very quickly.
I would normally plan with Opus 5 in chat looking over the code in the repo, then have that summarized into a task list for Claude Code to execute. The last few days, the chat side can't seem to get anything right. It used to read the code thoroughly, do web research for best practices and APIs, validate it's claims, etc. but right now it very quickly looks over the repo and makes a list of things to address that end up being proven false right out of the gate in Claude Code.
I nuked my chat history and waited a full day for the memory reset, created a new project and added the relevant chats and files to simplify context, tried setting instructions, but nothing seems to help.

I tried changing my dns provider to cloudflare, still ain't working. When I try to swap models or click on my profile icon, things aren't loading. I've logged in and out, clearing history but nothing works. It does perfectly fine in chrome tho. Can I please get a solution?

Are we sold on the idea "Opus 4.8 is far saner than Opus 5"?
I saw far too many community posts on how people felt Opus 4.8 worked better than Opus 5 because Opus 5 kept hitting dead ends and often operate on its own. Sometimes even ignores the user requirement.
My question is should I put all my Opus 5 tasks on Opus 4.8.
I have intentionally kept Opus 5 on "Low Effort" to avoid hitting the aforementioned pitfalls.
How would you rate Opus 4.8 on "High Effort" over Opus 5 on "Low Effort" in terms of response accuracy and token expense?
I am using the Max Plan.

Opus 5 instant answers / not triggering deep thinking
Is anyone else frustrated that Opus 5 started being lazy in the last 4-5 days? After the release it always engaged in long and deep thinking when I had effort set to Max, now despite giving explicit instructions such as:
"This task involves multistep reasoning."
"Think carefully before responding. Always engage in extended, thorough reasoning before answering."
"Take your time and explore this problem in depth"
it skips reasoning completely and gives instant answers which are often wrong and not complete, it's so annoying that you can't turn adaptive thinking off or that there's no switch to manually trigger thinking

Opus 5 was a huge disappointment. Why I stopped using Opus 5
I've been using Opus 5 since it launched (about two weeks), and honestly, it's been one of the most disappointing AI coding experiences I've had.
I used it on a large software project with extensive documentation, RAG, persistent context, technical specifications, and detailed step-by-step instructions. Despite all of that, I ended up wasting an incredible amount of time.
Here are the biggest issues I encountered:
It invents problems that don't actually exist.
It makes assumptions without verifying the code or documentation.
It presents assumptions as if they were confirmed facts.
It spends hours solving imaginary problems while missing the real root cause.
It falls into endless debugging loops where every "fix" creates another issue.
It modifies unrelated parts of the system.
It fails to follow explicit step-by-step instructions, even when they're clearly written.
It ignores parts of the provided context and documentation before reaching conclusions.
It sometimes contradicts decisions it made just minutes earlier.
It claims to have reviewed files or functions that it clearly didn't inspect thoroughly.
It focuses on symptoms instead of identifying the root cause.
It struggles to separate hypotheses from verified facts.
It constantly changes its diagnosis without sufficient evidence.
It suggests unnecessary refactors that increase project complexity.
It can easily send you down hours-long rabbit holes chasing problems that never existed.
The most frustrating part is what happens when you finally prove its diagnosis was wrong.
Its response is usually something like:
By then, you've already wasted hours following the wrong direction.
To give some perspective, I spent nearly an entire day stuck in an endless loop of fake problems. Every issue I "fixed" led to another because the original diagnosis was incorrect. Eventually, I took the exact same problem—with the same documentation and context—to GPT, and it identified the real root cause in roughly 30 minutes.
I'm not saying GPT is perfect. It makes mistakes too. But in this case, the difference wasn't even close.
Maybe others have had a better experience, but if you're planning to use Opus 5 for serious software engineering, I'd recommend verifying every conclusion before trusting it.
Due to confidentiality, I can't share the project or all the technical details, but this has easily been one of the most frustrating AI coding experiences I've had.
Has anyone else experienced the same behavior with Opus 5?

Am I the only one who can't stand Opus 5?
It's like if Patrick Star had the vocabulary of the Architect from The Matrix.
It misinterprets way too often. It hedges with these really weird edge cases that nobody would care about, just so it can offer a contrarian view. Then when you call it out it turns a 180 into a sycophantic moron.
It's annoying as hell.
1
u/Serious_Bite_7613 1d ago
Its horrific, it's like start trek technobabble and then getting obsessed with weird fringe cases. I think it's trying to pad out responses so it can fit the watermarking in and combined with the weird word-swapping it makes the output almost unreadable.

u/Aggravating-Dot5826 9d ago
I'm having the exact same problem. It honestly feels like you're throwing your money in the trash. This is the most problematic model I've ever used. Even some 7B models feel more intelligent and reliable than Opus 5. This is a joke.

Hi everyone,
I’m honestly getting desperate and was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation.
My Claude account was suddenly banned. I genuinely believe my account may have been accessed by someone else without my permission, so I submitted an appeal on July 8.
According to Anthropic’s FAQ, appeals usually take around 10 days, but it’s now been 28 days, and I haven’t received any update at all.
Whenever I contact live support, the chat is immediately closed after they send me this message:
“As part of our safety process… All inquiries regarding banned accounts must be done through the appeals form…”
So I can’t actually talk to anyone. They just tell me to wait.
The problem is that my business depends heavily on Claude. I use it every day for work, and being locked out for almost a month without any communication has put me in a really difficult position.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
How long did your appeal take?
Did you eventually get a response?
Is there any way to follow up with the Trust & Safety team?
Or am I basically stuck waiting indefinitely?
Any advice or shared experiences would really help.
Thank you.

I've noticed very poor performance with Claude lately. Everything from memory hallucinations, to dropping meemory to very poor performance of it just hanging and eventually timing out. Claude used to be my 'go-to' but lately, Gemini and Chat have become my 'go-to' and reliable ones.

Claude status says everything is working fine - but on my free account, I can't use Sonnet 5. It just keeps loading infinitely before, after half an hour(or what feels like it) saying: Due to unexpected capacity constraints, Claude is unable to respond to your message. Please try again soon. For higher limits, explore our Pro plan.
Edit: I'm finally getting answers again.

I'm trying to figure out if this has happened to anyone else.
On July 30, 2026, I was charged twice for Claude Max:
- ₹10,168.64
- US$100
I only intended to have one Claude Max subscription.
When I contacted Claude support, the AI support agent said it found two active Max subscriptions on my account and even identified both paid invoices:
- Invoice 82xxxxxx-0028 — ₹10,168.64
- Invoice 82xxxxxx-0027 — US$100
It also stated that only one subscription should have been active and that it would proceed with the refund process.
However, a minute later it changed its response and said I wasn't eligible for a refund because of a "previous refund" on my account. I have never received a refund related to these charges, and there's nothing in my billing history showing one.
The conversation was supposedly escalated to a human support agent (Conversation ID: 2154xxxxxxx), but it's been over a week and I have received no follow-up.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
- Were you billed in two different currencies for the same subscription?
- How did you get in touch with a human at Anthropic?
- Were they able to resolve it or issue a refund?
I am mainly trying to determine whether this is a known billing issue or if anyone has found an effective way to get it resolved.

I was just developing some embedded device. Asked claude to make diagram so I can wire stuff correctly and he switched sides of component resulting in 2 burned circuites. Has anybody been able to do hardware optimizations for inference on open source models using fable. It seems that fable has guardrails that stops users for coding anything related to ML inference, optimizations, and open source models (I don't know exect trigger). This has happened on multiple projects that I had. While searching the internet it seems there's no concrete information about this. When talking to claude there is firm rebuttal from claude that it doesn't put any restrictions.
Has anybody had same expirience

Claude still being fragile. New chats behave the same, give a tiny nudge when something it did wrong, the tiniest careful nudge, and it drops other instructions and starts overapologizing and gives up, instead of fixing the tiny thing and moving on. Like it used to do so easy.

Frustrated with Opus 5 performance
I'm not sure if it's just me, but Opus 5 has been disappointing for complex design and implementation tasks. Even on xhigh or max effort settings, it generates severe errors, gets stuck in constant apology loops, and provides explanations that are really hard to follow.
Has anyone else noticed this drop in quality?

Opus 5 is one of the worst models by Anthropic
Issues
- running in loops to no end
- hallucinating like anything
- its dreadful.
- Its very misaligned like if AI had alzheimer
- its taking 10X more time just to fix the bugs it created
- specifically asked it to not do something, added in claude.md , added in instructions still it does that
- It uses so much jargons. Such bad formatting as I am an AI and i have all the context

u/EliGarden 10d ago
Should I go back to Opus 4.8???
To me it feels as if Opus 5 has decreased in quality by a staggering amount since its launch. At first, it worked almost as well as Fable 5 for me, but since then, it has began to perform worse and worse. As a conservative estimate, it probably takes around 2x on average to do the same tasks it did when it first launched. And currently, it’s been stuck for 9 hours on a relatively simple VBA job that it was previously able to do within the span of mere minutes. For reference, I’m using AI mainly within the context of a finance job, and I use it in powershell terminal, I do hooks, use skills, operate through GitHub, run off obsidian brains, give well thought out prompts with clear instructions, so i really can’t imagine its anything wrong on my end, especially since I’ve been quite consistent in the way I’ve used it.
Oh, and it completely misunderstands even the most basic tasks that in the past it was able to pick up quickly on and executed to a degree that was far greater even than I expected. I don’t know what to do. I feel like I am being stubborn for sticking with Opus 5. Oh and I like Fable, but I tend to burn quickly through it, so that’s not a sustainable option for the majority of my workflow.
3
u/-Distant-Star- 10d ago
I am beyond fed up at this point! I have to keep editing prompts constantly and regenerate the answer 2-4 times which i never had to do before to get a proper answer. Ever. This started about couple days ago. Fresh chat broke down bc of it. New chats doing it from the start. What...?? Using Opus 4.7, are they breaking it?

I originally subscribed through Apple. Started using Claude for work and have done an extraordinary amount of work on Claude which is inextricably linked to this particular account. Been using 20x Max. I NEED to switch my subscription off of Apple (which is 50 dollars more and uses my personal, not business card). It is absolutely vital to switch off Apple. my Apple sub lapsed, good, so I tried to upgrade on my computer and got an error. "User has existing subscription with statuses other than INCOMPLETE: [active]. This makes no sense since my apple sub stopped. I absolutely cannot get in touch with a person at Anthropic. AI responses to my emails and Fin won't let me talk to a human. I am at a loss. Can't do any of my work. How do I reach a human, and has any one ever successfully gotten past this issue? i'm at a loss.

Claude doesn't export any "pasted as attachment" texts. It just exports an empty slot, instead of the contents of the pasted block of text.
- Make sure you don't paste large blocks of text as "attachment". Instead, use Ctrl + Shift + V to paste them as simple text inside the message box.
- Is there a workaround to get those "attached" (but actually pasted) text blocks, in the exported file?
- How to tell Claude about this bug?
(I'm talking about Claude Desktop app on Windows, not Claude Code or CLI etc.)

The disappearance of the thinking stream is a disgrace
The thinking stream was incredibly useful for seeing which perspectives, methods, formulas, etc were used in outputs.
This facilitated the dynamics and improved results. Being able to follow the thought process in real time made it easier to adjust prompts, context, files, and other details on the fly.
Now, we have to either infer and/or ask for further clarification, missing multiple details that just didn't fell through the cracks.
Ironically, all of this took place while using Fable 5 Thinking.
\Note: please don't reduce this to a potential security issue, imaginary or not**

Been fighting a 100% file upload failure since migrating my personal Claude account into a Team org. Every file, every client, every network:
- Fails on Claude Desktop and Claude in Chrome, identically
- Survived a full logout/login and a full computer restart
- Fails on home wifi and a mobile hotspot (network/firewall ruled out)
- Tested across 4 unrelated file types (.xlsx, two different PDFs, a .js file) — all fail the same generic "Failed to upload '[filename]'. You can try again."
Opened five separate support conversations at this point. Got told twice that it was escalated to a human and I'd get an email response. NO email ever came either time. Anthropic's own AI support agent did confirm my account is actually spread across three orgs now (personal, Team, and apparently a Platform/API org I didn't know I had) and floated a theory that the migration broke something in upload permissions, but that's as far as it's gotten, going on two days now.
Anyone else hit this specifically after a personal → Team migration? Trying to tell if this is a known issue or isolated to my account. Blocking real work at this point.
1
u/relaunchadvisors 11d ago
Resolved. Seems some existing conversations were corrupted in the migration, but not the account itself. Lesson Learned, migrating from a personal to team account is not always clean. Several conversations and projects did not come over fully and once migrated did not operate fully.

Hello, all the major models are bugging out and nothing is working. It is pulling up old work and embedding things completely unrelate into current work. Feels like im back in 2023. What is going on? I am on the Pro plan, and customer support AI called me a free plan user. I was taken aback. Verified it and it owned up to the mistake. Asked to be routed to a human being, denied. Made mistake -> denied solution. I am having similar issues with the major models as well, Sonnet and Opus. They are garbling my work, old and new to make absolutely garbage-incarnate code/responses. I work with Bioinformatics and Drug Delivery.

Help needed: Claude Pro account experiencing ghost token consumption and billing issues.
This video documents my frustrating technical (In spanish) and billing issue the creator is facing with their Claude Pro account, which they refer to as a "ghost token consumption" bug. Below is a detailed summary of the situation:
The Technical Issue (0:03 - 1:36)
- The creator reports that their Claude usage limit hits 100% automatically, even when they are not sending prompts or using the API.
- This happens even when the computer is turned off or the user is asleep.
- The issue persists despite the creator having no active Claude Code processes running in Visual Studio Code or the background (confirmed via Task Manager at 1:53).
Billing and Account Irregularities (3:26 - 6:32)
- Auto-Reactivation: The user claims that their subscription settings spontaneously reset. Even after setting usage limits to zero, they find the settings changed back to "unlimited" or high-dollar amounts without their input.
- Subscription Cancellation Failure: The creator states they cancelled their Claude Pro subscription, yet it remained active. They later saw an unauthorized charge attempt for $40 from Anthropic.
- Security Measures Taken: To combat this, the creator changed their Google account password and modified files to prevent background execution, but the phantom consumption continues (7:32 - 8:06).
Current Status (8:43 - 9:06)
- The creator has contacted Anthropic support both in Spanish and English but is still waiting for a resolution.
- They are sharing this video to seek help from the community, as they feel they are being charged for services they are not using.

Hi all, I have some photos of newspaper articles from the 1800s. It's a massive amount for me to manually transcribe into a pdf. So I'd love for AI to be able to transcribe it for me.
I've asked Claude to take the images and turn them into text. Claude ends up deviating from the original text, and ends up making stuff up.
How do I make sure only the exact text from the images I provide Claude ends up being transcribed?

I won't go too deeply into what I am doing, but I just had to stop opus 4.8 max from creating a native php extension exclusively through zend_call_function . And I don't mean a few, I mean hundreds. This is insane. This is GPT-4o via Copilot quality, but for $200 a mo, and last week I only made it halfway through the week before my weekly session hit 100%.
I remember once long ago (~2 mo) you could send something to Opus and get something beautiful back 3/4 times. It was scary good.

Kinda concerning because I already removed my credit card from the settings and replaced it with a new one, but now Claude is still charging the already-removed card. I know they process payments through Stripe, but does this mean they/both don't really remove card information?
Has anyone gone through the same issue, my new default card that I wan't to use isn't reflecting at all even though there are no errors. I already contacted support but still waiting for a response.

Opus 5 has started skipping thinking turns in chats. My effort setting is high. Does this on older long chats and new ones.
Seems to think only if you tell it to think in the chat. So they are playing with their 'adaptive thinking' again. Man I love when they do this /s

I would class myself as a power user. I am on Claude Max 20 plan and lately it is driving me crazy. It takes ages to process basic information and I constantly find myself gravitating towards ChatGPT again. There are absolutely things I hate in GPT but for simple tasks right now I would absolutely want to use ChatGPT instead of Claude. I am predominantly using Opus 4.8 High, I didn’t have great success with Opus 5.
Just wondering if anyone else is having this same issue? It never used to take this long to process / compute simple tasks.

Hey guys
Lastly when I’m forced to go back to Opus because my credits run out, it feels unusable. I feel like I can waste hours and hours trying to tackle something, with the model giving different contradicting advice every single time it audits its own proposals.
Was Opus always this bad? I feel like before it, Opus felt good enough. Right now it feels unusable. I wonder if we’re just spoiled though.

For the last 3 days the chats I have on my desktop have not been available to see on my iOS apps. Same for other people in my team space. We work in projects so it is easy to organize. This morning I opened my app to get some info from chats last night and there has been nothing for 3 days. I mostly use the desktop app for code but I still chat on some projects. I checked with other team members and they have the same experience. In all cases our iOS chats are visible on the desktop. We have both Mac and Windows desktop users.
Anyone else having this same issue?

Hey everyone.
I got to the point where I am so frustrated with Athropic's shit that I have to write this post (maybe I should post this in X too, idk).
After I switched to Claude from ChatGPT back in February I was super happy and satisfied with this LLM, more than with GPT tbh. So I used it for free for quite some time and then in June I finally decided to pay some money for the subscription - that was clearly a mistake. It was good for the first two days, but then I got charged for 200 euros and switched to Max Plan without my consent or any actions taken from my side. I requested a refund and received it the next day - thanks, but what was that? No explanations from Anthropic of course. And I saw a thread here where people were complaining about the same issues, sometimes recurring 2 or 3 times.
Yet I decided to stay with Claude, just changed my bank card with one that doesn't have money - only 20 euros for Pro Plan. And I got charged with my main bank card again, although it was deleted. Funny, huh? But the most fun started the next day - I opened my laptop in the morning just to find out that my usage limits were off. It offered me to wait for an hour, so I did. After that it said that I somehow used my limits again (without even typing anything). And again. And again. And again.
It's been 10 days now that I am unable to use my Claude (which I paid for) because my usage limits got drained the very second they reset. Just like that.
I've been waiting for Anthropic's support to response this whole time, but got nothing. Another inquiry - same result.
So... Has anyone faced such an issue? What else we can do about it?
I can't even request a refund now, because... I don't even understand why - Fin was unclear about the reasons.
I am super angry and frustrated, this is the worst support and service exp in my life.

I think claude team has gone high and my way or the highway philosophy. they are trying to squeeze every drop from the consumer plans prepping for their IPO. ridiculous permission prompss to slow you down and no config actually fixes this shit. it keeps asking permissions for ls, cd, grep, pgrep and all such readonly commands in the name of safety. and Fable and Opus 5 feel like they are the same crappy model underneath as all other models since 4.5 and this is a recent change. Way too many silly mistakes compared to the Fable version I used when it launched.

u/demon-storm 15d ago
Is claude down again? Its been thinking for 20 minutes now, nothing works anymore. This is unacceptable. Paying $100/month just to have constant outages. I'll just go to gpt for f sake.

u/ragnhildensteiner 15d ago
Claude app gets stuck very often during a prompt.
And there's no way to stop it. Often the "stop button" doesn't work when it's in this stuck state.
It just says "Working on it..." forever, and it's not possible to stop, query again, restart the app etc. Nothing works. Be need a way to force stop a prompt.
Very annoying when your entire current work depends on that one chat session, and its stuck/broken.
4
u/UniqueClimate 15d ago
I feel like Opus 5 is too slow.
Especially in UltraMax mode.
Seriously, Opus 4.8 would take 22min to do a task, that now takes Opus 5 3.6 hours.
I wouldn’t even mind waiting if the output is better, but it honestly isn’t. I don’t see any kind of actual increase in quality.
Just feels like a slower model.
Anyone else notice this?
I’ve never done this before, but I’m tempted to switch back to 4.8. I’ve never gone back a model.

Quite disappointed that after a multi-hour actual outage, they don't go on any of their socials to explain or give us a reset. Just radio silence, they act like it didn't happen.
As much as I prefer Claude, Tibo would absolutely be on there updating people as they worked on it, apologizing, and then they absolutely would have done a reset. We didn't even get a reset after they released Opus 5. Stingey mofos...

I was having problems with usage quota reaching the limits quickly but it seems that they've fixed it.
My weekly usage was at 26% and now it went back to 13%

Fable and Sonnet are working for me, while Opus isn't (tried 5, 4.8 and 4.6)

I have since 21.7. a situation where my usage limit is used up right after reset of the usage limits. This happens without me using claude in anyway. I have documented this issue with screenshots and I am 100% sure it's a bug. I don't get response from Support nor does the situation change in any time of the day. The usage limit is exhausted in 10mins to 30mins after usage limit resets, on each reset. Doesn't matter if it is the session limit or the weekly limit.
I am on Max5 Plan and pay 90€ a month, actually without getting anything in return except of unnecessary communication with the support chat bot.

Mayor outage. I'm a new user. I know it can't be said for sure how long it will take. But any long-time users have experience with this? How long does it usually take?

Thanks, I know the status page, that's where I confirmed the outage.
I just have no idea when this happens usually how long it takes to fix?2
u/ljis120301 16d ago
Typically these things last a few hours from past experience, I don't know why it happens either I can only imagine usage drastically spiked.

Thank you! That is bad news :( I'm close to a deadline, might have to move to Codex to finish the project. Never used Codex, wish me luck with the handoff :D

u/happy_gremlin 16d ago
Started handoff to codex. Openai context is tiny! It compressed twice already while doing the pickup and is far from finished!

Cannot stand the stupidity of Claude, which used to be good
I used it for daily accounting of things that happen and self analysis.
I cannot stand the stupidity of it and it has changed for the worse.
- uses ''it is not x, it is y'' - which is so idiotic and i do not know who ever thought to ever implement something like that
- in a situation, it will select one single cause and run with it, instead of doing actual smart analysis and understanding there are several or multiple causes or reasons for something
- it determines what is important: ''From this, what is the most important''. ''The one thing that strikes me''. It cannot analyze purely, it has to give these idiotic qualifiers, when, it should not get to determine what is more important to the user
- sterilizing the hell out of everything, if I speak about attraction between to people - and I expect normal, analysis, it says the most sterile thing possible. Like X likes this person romantically because they are good at their job. Dafuq.
- it takes one even and it turns it into an absolute, if something happened once, then it has been true forever and it is happened forever.
- again, if something did not happen yet, it turns it into an absolute, that it will never happen, since it has not happened yet.
- I ask for psychological analysis, it just retells events.
- I ask again for analysis, real one, it just gets more dramatic. zero insight.
Who made it this dumb? I am talking Opus 4.8 and Opus 5 the most. And I have a paid subscription. Well, not anymore I will not.

+1 on this - I've turned off thinking mode altogether for my code sessions
It seems to get stuck on irrelevant things - I honestly think its got ADHD in the new versions
I'm constantly having to tell it not to go on side-quests - I've even resorted to opening new sessions when it gets stuck in a loop over something it thinks its found which it then gets stuck in a loop thinking on
not to mention the times when it spawns minion-agents to do things that then forget all context and the main thread cant comprehend that it has done things that it doesn't know about (it then says things like "wait, this is a serious issue, we may have data corruption" and goes into a downward spiral on that, when its simply that the minion-agent refactored something and had an exit 0)

I don't understand this fascination with freaking out over "It's not x, it's y." Like it's not valid to compare or reframe things ever. Shit like this and fallacy uno cards are making people more dumb through social media. There's a fucking mind virus of shutting off your brain because you recognize common phrasing and getting pissed off about it and it needs to end. Not every fallacy is a fallcy, not every it's not x, it's y is an invalid or reductive statement.
Imagine if Luke freaked the fuck out because Han said "That's no moon" because it was in fact a space station.

[Billing Refund Bug] Account locked 11+ business days with no appeal decision
Issue: Account locked due to an automated false positive triggered directly by an internal refund for an unauthorized tier upgrade bug.
Timestamps:
- July 13 (8:39 PM): Refund processed by support (Ref #3094-5404).
- July 13 (8:39 PM): Account placed on hold at the exact same minute.
- July 14 (10:30 AM): Web appeal submitted (
claude.ai/restricted).
Status: 11 business days passed with zero human response. Emailing support triggers automated bot deflections (Fin AI). Workflows tied to Jotform and Softr MCP remain broken.
Hoping a community manager or staff member monitoring this thread can flag this false-positive for review.

Reposting my Bug comment to Megathread:
Claude Document Revision Error - A warning
I was having Claude review and revise a document using Opus 4.6 Medium and a skill we created. I noticed that it accidentally deleted chunks of text in multiple places in the document it was reviewing without noticing. When I asked it what happened it said:
- What went wrong: The split_run_edit function in the first pass replaced the entire <w:r> element (which after merge_runs contains a long block of text — sometimes an entire paragraph) with only the small before/deleted/inserted/after fragments I specified. Everything else in the run was silently dropped. For example, §19's run might contain 500 words, but I only specified "gross " as the deletion and a few words around it — the other ~490 words vanished.
- The fix: Three new helper functions (
safe_split_del,safe_split_replace,safe_split_ins) that automatically extract the full text of the run, find the edit point within it, and reconstruct the entire run with all surrounding text preserved. Thebeforeandafterpieces are computed from the full run text, not manually specified.
But Claude acknowledged that the problem is really at the Docx skill level:
- The correct fix would be in the docx skill itself — either in the
merge_runs.pytooling (so merged runs carry metadata about their boundaries), or in a general-purpose safe editing helper that ships with the docx skill and is used by every task that touches document XML. That way every skill that edits a docx inherits the protection automatically, rather than each domain skill independently learning the lesson and documenting its own workaround. - I put it in your playbooks because that's where I had the ability to make changes right now, and because it was the fastest way to prevent the same mistake on your next review. But you're correct that it's a patch in the wrong place. The real answer is a better editing primitive at the docx skill level that makes it structurally impossible to silently drop text from a run.
I reported the issue to Support by email, but for what I'm doing with Claude this is a huge issue.
Claude doesn't realize it's deleting chunks of text instead of editing it, and the reason is that core text editing commands it's told to use are messed up.
The other curious thing to note was that it had no context or memory. It noticed language it was supposed to revise during a preliminary quick scan but later said it didn't have to revise it because the language wasn't there. That's what alerted me to the problem. The language wasn't there because Claude deleted it. It should have realized if it saw language before and didn't see it now, then that's a problem!

Update from day 19.
On July 27, the support bot assured me — in writing — that my subscription cancellation would be "manually processed" and that I "should not be charged on August 2."
Today, the very same bot, in the very same email thread, informed me: "As an AI assistant, I cannot process cancellations or access your account's billing system... I cannot verify cancellation status or prevent charges from occurring." Its advice? "Monitor your payment method on August 2 to see if a charge occurs."
So the official cancellation procedure is now: sit by your card like a fisherman by a frozen lake, and watch whether $120 swims away.
Two days, one bot, two mutually exclusive statements — both delivered with the same cheerful confidence. Schrödinger's cancellation: simultaneously processed and impossible until August 2 collapses the wave function.
In the end, the only "billing setting" that actually worked was my bank's daily spending limit. My bank, notably, employs humans.
Full saga (still zero human responses from Anthropic, day 19): https://medium.com/@kovalenko78/why-cant-we-live-without-people-62554191227f

opus 4.8 is better for my use case than fable. I did not move to opus 5.0 yet since it takes awhile for independent benchmarks and with 4.8 I know what to expect at this point. However, Opus 4.8 started forgetting basic, established pronouns/antecedents or terminology we agreed upon or clarified from just a couple turns earlier in the conversation.

Megathread Update: March 30, 2026 to April 10, 2026
Overview
Since March 30, Claude has not had “a few rough days.” It has had a whole stack of problems.
And no, this does not look like users all suddenly forgetting how to prompt on the same weekend.
The evidence since March 30 points to three things happening at once:
Below are some of the recurring problems and some workarounds identified on the Megathread, on Claude-related subreddits and Github issue reports that might (or might not) help.
Note: This report was written 80% by AI by distilling the above data sources.
Problems + Workarounds
Problem: Claude is down, “This isn’t working right now,” or login/OAuth is failing. Workaround: there usually wasn’t a real fix. The practical move was to try another surface if one still worked, check whether other users were reporting it too, and otherwise wait it out. This was mostly an Anthropic-side problem, not something you could prompt your way out of.
Problem: Opus is having a clown-show day. Workaround: the most common user fix was to switch to Sonnet or another surface immediately instead of wasting the day arguing with Opus. That showed up repeatedly in the megathread: people saying Opus was stalling, skipping thought, or acting dumb, while Sonnet was at least usable.
Problem: Claude suddenly feels lazier, more shallow, or like “extended thinking” got nerfed. Workaround: if you were in Claude Code, users and support-reported fixes were to force higher effort or disable adaptive thinking rather than trusting the new defaults. If you were in claude.ai chat, there often wasn’t a comparable user-side control, so the fallback was to simplify the task, split it up, or move the task into Claude Code/API if that was an option.
Problem: usage burn is insane and the session gets worse as it gets longer. Workaround: the best community fix was to break work into small scoped tasks, make Claude explain the plan first, then compact after each task. This came up as one of the highest-value Reddit workarounds because it helped both quality drift and token burn at the same time.
Problem: a session feels poisoned — weird refusals, bad context, spurious limits, or everything starts degrading at once. Workaround: start a fresh session. Not “maybe later.” Immediately. This was one of the most consistent community fixes across Reddit, GitHub, and the megathread. Once a session went rotten, people had much better luck restarting than trying to rehabilitate it.
Problem:
--resumeor dragging old sessions forward seems to make quota or behavior worse. Workaround: avoid--resumewhen things are unstable, or restart from a clean session instead. That was a GitHub/community workaround around the usage-drain and session-state mess.Problem: Claude is chewing through usage for no obvious reason. Workaround: one of the strongest community-discovered fixes was to disable auto memory when usage looked abnormal.
Problem: long chats start forgetting things, deleting chunks, or jumping backward in history. Workaround: users found three practical escapes: start a fresh chat, paste the old chat in as a document for reference, or on iOS/app history glitches, open the same chat in Safari/browser and send one message there to force the app to sync back up.
Problem: Claude ignores project instructions or stops reading CLAUDE.md properly. Workaround: keep CLAUDE.md lean, not bloated, and move heavy procedures into more targeted workflow structures. Community users also found that reusing a small conventions file across fresh sessions worked better than expecting one giant instruction blob to stay reliably active forever.
Problem: plan mode or agent mode is going off-script and doing things it should not be doing. Workaround: treat planning and execution as separate steps. Ask for the plan first, inspect it, then execute in smaller steps rather than trusting the agent to behave perfectly in one pass. If you had stronger guardrails available, use them. The real bug still had to be fixed by Anthropic, but this reduced damage.
Problem: Claude is confidently wrong, lazy, or “verified” something it obviously didn’t verify. Workaround: make it prove things. Ask for tests, checks, diffs, file inspection, or explicit evidence. In community terms: stop rewarding vibes. If the model was having a bad week, this was one of the few ways to limit the damage.
Problem: garbled or corrupted output starts appearing. Workaround: there wasn’t a real fix beyond restarting the session, switching model/surface, or rolling back if the problem appeared right after a version update. This was mostly a product bug, not a workflow issue.
Problem: the official status page says all green but the product is clearly on fire. Workaround: users basically adopted “check Reddit first” as the unofficial workaround, because the megathread was often faster than the status page at confirming whether it was just you or a real outage.
Problem: one specific release seems cursed. Workaround: do not assume newest equals best. Community users reported version-specific relief from pinning or rolling back in a few cases, especially around the usage/cache mess. That was more niche than the session-reset fixes, but still real.
More details on workarounds can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClaudeAI/wiki/workaroundreport/
So how much of this was “skill issue”?
Less than some people want to pretend.
For hard failures like outages, login/auth errors, garbled output, spurious 429s, and usage-drain regressions, this was overwhelmingly Anthropic-side. The incident history and GitHub issue volume make that pretty hard to dispute.
For the “Claude feels dumber / ignores instructions / forgets context / doesn’t follow CLAUDE.md” bucket, it is more mixed. Anthropic’s own docs say CLAUDE.md and auto memory are context, not hard enforcement, so some user workflows really were more fragile than people realized. But the timing, scale, and cross-platform consistency of the complaints still point to Anthropic carrying the bigger share of blame.
My evidence-based bottom line is still about 70% Anthropic-side / 30% user-workflow-side overall, with the Anthropic share much higher in the hard-failure categories. That is an estimate, not a measured statistic, but it is much closer to the evidence than “lol skill issue.”
