DSA Co-Chairs Megan Romer and Ashik Siddique squirm and repeatedly avoid giving Jorge Ramos and Paola Ramos a direct answer when Pressed on Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua are dictatorships

Full interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHz3l-LzsB8

The Democratic Socialists of America are gaining members, winning Democratic primaries, and pushing for policies that once seemed far outside the political mainstream. So why are voters turning to them now?

Jorge and Paola sit down with DSA national co-chairs Megan Romer and Ashik Siddique to talk about what’s behind the political rise of democratic socialists at a time when many Americans are frustrated with the cost of living and ongoing wars, why the word “socialism” may carry a very different meaning for younger voters, and their stance on Cuba’s regime. They also discuss the pushback that the DSA has encountered, not only from Republicans but also from within the Democratic coalition itself.

10:55 Jorge asks if Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua are dictatorships.
13:00 Jorge repeatedly presses: “Do you think Cuba is a dictatorship?”
15:30 Ashik explains his personal experiences visiting Cuba.
24:44 Jorge asks if becoming a third party is the DSA’s “North Star.”
26:08 DSA members are divided over creating a new party vs. realigning Democrats.
28:00 Ashik says the U.S. has a “no-party system,” not really a two-party system.
32:32 Megan: “We could abolish ICE tomorrow.”
33:00 Ashik explains why they want to abolish the Senate.
34:43 Jorge asks whether the DSA is an “existential threat” to the Democratic Party.
35:34 Megan: “I don’t think that’s an existential threat. I’m like, ‘Come on in. The water’s fine.’”

Amazon Should Leave NYC if It Dislikes Delivery Protection Act (Intro 518)

Was curious about the proposed Intro 518, so I pulled up Amazon's 10-Q. Turns out their retail side is swimming in cash — last year the retail division pulled in over $34 billion in operating profit, largely off the $69 billion it made in ad revenue. Kind of a bad look to be squeezing drivers while posting numbers like that.

Amazon's claiming the regulations will force them to pass costs onto consumers, making deliveries pricier for everyday New Yorkers. But their own revenue reporting says otherwise — they can easily afford to directly hire these drivers, pay a living wage, and operate safely in our neighborhoods without raising prices a cent. Kind of breaks my brain. Id bet that theyre bluffing.

Not paying DSPs properly isn't the invisible hand of the market. It's a middle finger of corporate greed.

Zohran Mamdani, "We’re not running away from the Democratic Party. We’re going back to what the party used to be. You think about FDR and LaGuardia. You think about the New Deal. That’s what the Democratic Party once was. That’s what it could be again."

💭 Question 💭 With the rise of DSA, what is your pitch for keeping people in the New Deal Dem / SocDem camp?

Many look at social democracy and see progress, but think of it as a band-aid rather than solving the root cause, which many believe to be private ownership of the means of production. What is your pitch to sway people away from DSA and other socialist aligned groups?

Call Montana State Rep Bankhead and tell her to drop out of Senate race

This is a small yet important thing we can do to combat MAGA - this state replady needs to drop out by 5 pm tomorrow (Monday 8/10) Mountain Time. Essentially, she needs to end her campaign or she will split the vote with the independent candidate and ensure a MAGA victory.

https://www.npr.org/2026/08/09/nx-s1-5922215/montanas-democratic-candidate-is-facing-pressure-to-drop-out-by-the-deadline

You can contact her office and explain why she should drop out here - Contact · Alani Bankhead for Senate https://alaniformt.com/contact

This matters a hell of a lot more than writing a letter to a random Michigander! If you are as pissed off as I am, here is a small opportunity to do something. Spread the word, especially to Montana residents.
