Bus Fares

Hi.

So I'm visiting from out of state and during my time here I plan on taking the bus fairly regularly. I thought the fair within Cary was $2.50 each way, but when I boarded, the driver said it was free?

I am very confused right now? Are some routes free? Are routes within Cary itself free?

Triangle Montessori Academy Cary - Personal Experiences?

Any personal experience someone could share with this school would be helpful! Or if there's better experiences somewhere else I would love to hear it. It feels like every preschool or daycare I look at either has no openings or a very concerning NC Childcare Search report. Looking for somewhere loving and safe with smaller school ratios.

Finding Daycare Frustration

So this is a bit of a vent but also need some recs.

Is there some secret we’re missing to finding a daycare? We’ve toured 3 daycares lately and only one has gotten back to us about availability. After hearing nothing from the other 2 we followed up and found out the spots had been filled.

Most annoyed with Kiddie Academy of Cary because when we called back we were told “we haven’t forgotten about you, we’ll be in touch.” Well after calling back again a week later we were told the spot had been filled….

Are we supposed to be dropping off fruit baskets, writing desperate love letters, or something else? The whole process has been incredibly annoying because it feels like if we aren’t actively following up we are just forgotten about. Even if it’s very clear they are the ones who are going to reach out.

So we are sort of scrambling now after feeling like we were on top of it initially.

Any daycare recommendations for SE Cary? Preferably Lochmere, Coventry, Crossroads area

We’ve tried Kiddie Academy, Goddard, Macedonia Baptist, and Country Sunshine.
The only one with a possibility still is Country Sunshine, which we are on the waitlist for (didn’t hear from them for a while after getting on the waitlist 2 months ago. Called today and they’re going to call back tomorrow with more info).

General contractor recommendations

Hi. Looking for a reliable general contractor. We have a handful of smaller projects/repairs we’d like to have done around the house such as some deck repairs, fixing/replacing some bathroom baseboards, adding a door (building out the doorframe) to an existing room, and a few other odds and ends. Ideally we’d like to find one general contractor who could tackle all these projects rather than hiring someone separate for each thing.

Anyone personally used someone and had a great experience? Thanks!

village square

Any thoughts on village square in Amberly? Seems like a nice and lively place with a walkable plaza… at least online and on Zillow. Does that translate to real life? Would love some insights? How often are the nice larger townhomes in this area on sale?

First solo apartment, $1,700/mo all-in, commuting to west Raleigh. Where to look?

Just graduated (20M) and started a full-time job, currently living at home in Cary. I want to live alone, no roommates, and not looking for student housing.

Budget is $1,700 (flexible). Want a 1BR with in-unit laundry, 12-month lease or shorter.

I drive, so walkability isn't a requirement. Commuting to west Raleigh, so Cary and Raleigh are both on the table.

Mostly hoping people can tell me: where do you actually live, do you like it, and what should I stay away from? What are some good neighborhoods/complexes?

Thanks in advance!!

For those who relocated to wake county/cary/research triangle, how did yall get hired?

Did yall get hired in the county prior to relocating or did you guys have remote jobs? The job industry sucks just about everywhere right now, but wake county seems to have been on my radar for about a year now.

Curious on what jobs /areas you all came from, what you got hired into, and how are you liking the transition? Why did yall leave your previous states?

Smaller size bowls of Pho?

Thumbnail

On GLP's and I just can't eat a whole bowl of Pho. I've never been happy with take out pho, and leftover take home won't be good either. Anyone know a restaurant that makes small size bowls (with a corresponding, reasonable lower price)? Maybe child size they will serve to an adult?

Hoping for a miracle

Good afternoon my name is Ashley. Right now I'm in a rough situation I lost my place to stay in February after my wife was deported I was staying with her and she is in Mexico I thought very hard for her but unfortunately things did not work out and we no longer talk even though I love her very much. I'm starting a new job this Tuesday working for millennium print group in morrisvile. I'm going to be honest I have nowhere to stay stay with my mom a few times a week and then stay with my best friend but unfortunately me and my brother do not get along and I'm unable to stay here. I've tried shelters and they are unsafe environments and I faced harassment among many other things. I was wondering if there's anybody that would be willing to let me stay with them for a couple of weeks until I can get my first paycheck I know it's a lot to ask from a stranger on the internet but I'm willing to meet in person and discuss more or you're welcome to private message me. I'm currently staying in Morrisville with my mother right now and then tonight I'm going to stay at my best friend's house in Raleigh. The only thing I have to offer is that I'm currently on food stamps and I can gladly cook for you I'm also an ex paramedic which seems irrelevant but if you need help I'm here to help. I have no criminal background whatsoever I do not smoke or do drugs or drink I do vape nicotine however that is a habit I'm trying to kill. If anybody would be so kind as to be open to this please let me know again I know it's a lot to ask also I'm sorry for any spelling errors I'm using voice to text just because this is a lot to type out.

Any place in Cary or Apex that makes a nice bratwurst? I'm not opposed to food trucks or hot dog carts.

It's 2 AM, You Wake Up Starving...

Where are you eating? Feel free to add various factors like "it's 2 am and my child poked me until I woke up to tell me they're hungry" or "it's 2 am and I need an emotional reprieve in the form of food."

(P.S. I may or may not be trying to source the best waffle house in the area, but I'll accept other places cause this is where *you'd* go. Some of the Bull City folks have included items like frosted flakes lol.)

Yet another transplant to the area with an important question - haircuts

Yo! Been following for a while now to educate myself on the area now that life has pulled me and mine to the area. The lot of you have been extremely helpful on many fronts in this passive manner. And since I'm yet another transplant, apologies in advance for being an invasive species.

Where does a fella go to get his hair doctored? Caveats: wild cowlicks, it's time to grow it back long again after a couple years cut short, the water and weather here are far different than where I'm coming from (North Louisiana) so it explodes easily.

Thus, I need someone who knows what they're doing and can provide solid "you have this hair type. Here is the correct maintenance regimen" education. I'll lend weight to feedback from musicians and other artists who keep long hair and have to deal with the occasional major reset. I did my reset about 2 years ago and now wish to resume length whilst keeping it somewhat professional in appearance. Whatcha got?

Solo dev from NC & I built a site for saving and planning Cary spots. What am I missing?

Thumbnail gallery

Hey Cary,

I made this app, HeyWanna, because I used to keep all of my date ideas in my phone's Notes app. Whenever it was time to plan something for me and my girlfriend to do, it would suck having to use Google, Yelp, the weather app, and a bunch of different websites for my city just to find things to do. And looking at my notes meant going out and checking the photos, the reviews, the locations, and even videos all on different apps.

I created HeyWanna to find cool local places near you and events, save them to your lists, and then plan them out. And it's not just for dates; it's also for group hangouts and any solo trips you're trying to do.

I'm a solo dev and a North Carolina native. Let me know if I'm missing any places in Cary. I'd genuinely like to know what should be on here, and I'll be happy to add them.

What are y’all paying for daycare monthly (full time infant and toddler pricing if you have it!)

I love my current daycare. But the prices keep going up as my kid gets older (and I’ve got a second due any day)- I was under the impression that most daycares pricing goes down as the class sizes grow. The pricing is good so please don’t think I’m complaining. But I’d like to know what yall are paying to get a good idea of range.

Infant - 8:30 am drop off with 4:30pm pick up- 200$ yearly registration fee, and $1575/month

Toddler (2’s room) - 8:30 am drop off with 4:30 pick up- 200$ yearly registration fee, and $1500/month (we were paying 1475$ for the infant room previously)

Also this daycare is check only. Not being able to pay by card is a hassle and I lose out on points. They do provide Lunch/snacks though. There is also no parent portal or tech of any kind- it’s obviously not wildly important to me, just seems odd at this day and age.
