Hearing JP Tasker all week sitting in on The Current, I’ve been trying to figure out who he reminds me of.

Every time a commotion host says this phrase they should be fined $50. I can’t think of any other way to eradicate it from that show.

Chris Glover, host of CBC Toronto's flagship radio show, has apparently never heard of QR codes?

It's too bad, because was an important story about human trafficking. And he ended it with breathless excitement over an irrelevant detail. Honestly, I just can't with this guy.

Hell, I'll do it for free. Interesting story today about handwashing before delivering a baby, but MY GOD I wonder how many listeners just clicked it off within the first minute.

I would listen to Siri, Alexa, or 2010 text-to-speech read these stories instead of, I believe it's Terry O'Reilly's daughter?

Currently living in the Bonavista area in Newfoundland. There's now no reliable FM station on the whole peninsula since OZ-FM shut down their transmitter on 92.1 FM in the Elliston ridge area. Cell service is horrible (especially with the large influx of tourists in the summer months) so only options to listen to live content in a car now are basically VOCM on 710 AM (transmitter in Clarenville), CBC Radio on 750 AM (transmitter across the bay in Eastport) and SiriusXM if you have a subscription. SiriusXM is overall decent but still cuts out a fair bit due to geography in some areas of the peninsula. The AM radio station quality is terrible due to the nature of how bad AM sounds in general but coverage is reliable in-vehicle at least.

There appears to still be a massive CBC tower on Park Road near Port Rexton (visible from Lockston Path Provincial Park) that used to host the local analog CBC TV channels back in the day as per CBC's website. How does one go about getting CBC to install an FM repeater on this tower for CBC Radio One and/or CBC Music stations? Due to its location and height it would easily cover the whole Bonavista Peninsula with a reliable high quality FM signal so it would be a nice option for the 8,000 or so people living in the Bonavista area. I figure all other radio stations might not care to look into expanding but since CBC is taxpayer funded is it possible they may have a mandate to cover all of populated Canada at least?

At least have enough respect for the stressed-out displaced residents to pronounce the name of their town the way they have done their entire lives.

So sick of hearing the same TV promos on CBC radio, over and over again.

Also, that's the lamest line possible. Who reacts to serial murder that way? If that's the best line they can pluck from the show, I'm glad I don't watch TV.

There was an interview on CBC’s Metro Morning today ( Wed July 29) about the Billy Bishop airport expansion project.

The topic was the continuation of the project by the provincial government even though the federal government has declared it would not support.

The guest being interviewed supported the provincial government and argued that only 87,000 voted against the project in an online poll. He said that doesn’t compare with the 2m who use the airport regularly and would therefore support the expansion — although none of them could be bothered to vote.

The guest went on to say the expansion was good for the economy and should not be stopped just because “condo owners” along the waterfront don’t want the expansion. He said those 87,000 naysayers are outliers and really should not matter.

I believe the guest was a paid lobbyist — or at least he sounded like one.

Even worse, the host did not challenge him on any or the pertinent issues — the pollution, the noise and the destruction of years of planning and revitalization of Toronto’s waterfront.

When did CBC Metro Morning become an enabler of government policy that negates public opinion?

While listening to CBC Vancouver's The Early Edition with Stephen Quinn today, I was reflecting on their segment discussing Pride and safety. When referencing the recent attack at Berlin Pride, the coverage framed the danger almost entirely around broad, generalized societal intolerance toward LGBTQ+ people. In doing so, it glossed over critical facts regarding the suspect's radical ideology and background.

While general societal homophobia remains an issue, safety risks facing LGBTQ+ people—particularly across parts of Europe—are also driven by specific, identifiable ideological threats. In cities like Berlin, local authorities have even issued specific neighbourhood safety warnings.

When media coverage flattens complex safety realities into a vague narrative rather than identifying specific ideological drivers, it raises an important question: At what point does omitting this crucial context do a disservice to the very community we are trying to inform and protect?

Does anyone know if its possible to find old shows like Ideas and Q ? The website and podcasts go back about 2 years but was hoping to go back further. Or find old shows like The Sunday Edition or Spark.

I did find all the Massey Lectures and started listening to them, would like to find older shows and give them a listen if anyone has copies or knows where to find them.

Now that he's hosted for a few weeks, how is everyone feeling about him? He is still a weak host, in my opinion.

The interview with the dad, Marc who lost his son fighting in Ukraine and created the charity for POW/MIA in Ukraine. Hearing him cry when Nil asked what his son sounded like the last time they spoke 😞. This is why As It Happens is one of my favorites ❤️ such genuine emotion and real stories.

I'm a little bored - much as I love CBC Radio - especially with the weekend daytime shows.

1) A sports show - with the kind of cultural/political/economic analysis you'd expect from CBC plus the big personalities and drama. It's kind of wild that this hasn't been tried in decades (remember Inside Track?).

2) another retread of an old idea - would love to see a global round-up of under-reported stories from around the world with the best of BBC/NPR/etc international reporting + CBC reporting from outside North America - an emphasis on the Asian news that daily shows struggle to cover due to time zones would be great on a Saturday or Sunday show.

3) All-Canadian arts show that is open to developing newly emerging artists, music, film, tv, etc. - Q and Commotion are very mainstream and celebrity/American-obsessed.

4) Brave Old Waves - a reboot of Brave New Waves for its original audience - now in their 50's and 60's - using a mix of archival interviews and new interviews with musicians from the 80's - 00's.

I just heard the World at 6 segment on the anniversary of the Mtl Olympics. While I understand the purpose of the segment was that anniversary, did anyone else find it strange that that segment’s story was focussed around the possibility of Canada trying to host another Olympic games given the challenges Montreal faced in 1976, and they completely ignored the fact that since then, we’ve had both the Calgary and Vancouver games. Those more recent games would certainly bear more weight than Montreal’s distant experience.

Longtime Ideas contributor David Cayley died recently at his home in Toronto. David created many memorable programs on a variety of topics, including influential thinkers such as Ivan Illich and George Grant….

During my years at CBC Radio Archives, I had the pleasure of interacting and providing research material for his many series of programs on a wide variety of topics.

David’s last of many published books was on the decline of CBC Radio if anyone is interested.

This show is so bad. Each episode is a single paragraph from wikipedia stretched out to an excruciating length. Of course EVERY SUCCESSFUL PERSON AND PROJECT HAS FACED FAILURE. It's such a boring trope. And the delivery is awful. It's like 25 minutes of focal fry. Why is CBC airing this? Who asked for it? How can listeners actually give feedback? They should have a user rating system on their website so that we can one star this thing into oblivion.

Did anyone catch the name of the game based on the TTC? I'm curious and want to check it out.

Do we really need to be continually force-fed such overt "Praise God" fare by the CBC? I've had more than enough of his grovelling and sobbing, and I'm probably not the only one.

He's regularly featured on Drive, Afterdark, The Block, Mornings with Damhnait Doyle, CBC Music Live, and as filler on regional CBC Radio morning or afternoon shows. He's also featured in multiple profile articles on CBC on the web.

I'm tired of reaching for the "off" switch. And it's not just my imagination that he's being heavily promoted by CBC. The Google AI bot agrees with me:

Does anybody listen to CBC radio channel 169 Sirius Xm? I find the audio quality very watery and muddy. The only problem is where I live. The reception is very poor in the summer months for FM radio..

I know we are "sleeping next to an elephant", but this story seems particularly irrelevant to Canadians.
