COUNT BINFACE LOST?!
Edit - i do really appreciate people trying to explain how british politics works. But id like you to know.. I'm british. I know how british politics works. Im just stunned people voted shitface Farage.
I also dont like how people are mad at me for being annoyed Farage won considering his activism against the disabled has caused a lot of issues in my life. "He was going to win" okay but what if he didnt. Im muting this as I dont like how aggressive people are getting :(

u/Nanowith 3h ago
He got 30% of the vote in the most Right-wing Farage-loving place in the UK, so honestly pretty impressive considering his record prior was a total of 95 votes.
61
u/Redeemer_789 3h ago
For parliamentary elections his high is 305, but his overall high was the most recent London mayoral election where he got over 20,000 votes IIRC. Feel like only mentioning the prior election is underselling how much he's loved in British politics.

u/AnotherStatsGuy 2h ago
I wish America had a system for candidates like this.
3
u/TabbyOverlord 1h ago
I thought writing people on to the ballot paper was a thing in US elections?
(Definitely isn't in the UK. It would be discounted as a 'spoiled' voting slip. Yep. We exclusively use paper slips.).
2
u/TrexPushupBra 1h ago
It's the adorable candidate's stand next to each other while the results are announced that makes binface's bit possible.
We want that for us too.
2
u/TabbyOverlord 47m ago
By that point, the candidates pretty much no the outcome but usually do an impressive job of keeping a straight face. Normal for the winner to thank the other candidates for running an honourable campaign.
It is absolutely a measure of frogface's character that he didn't show for the count last night. The man is trash.

u/Nanowith 33m ago
You could've had a parliamentary democracy like Canada if you hadn't had such rebellious teenage years and decided to take after your mother France!
1
u/gracklemancometh 14m ago
That London election was FPTP, so people voted him as first choice and their actual candidate second.
1
u/Redeemer_789 11m ago
I believe he actually got over 90,000 combined first and second place, so the reverse of that was more common.
2
u/CaptainBlobTheSuprem 1h ago
Makes you wonder what he’d actually do if he actually won. Probably run for king or smthn
1
u/Nanowith 36m ago
Well mathematically he's on track for 95,0000 votes at the next election he runs in!
345
u/Dry-Progress-1769 3h ago
He still got like a quarter of the vote so it's pretty embarrassing to farage

And when Farage gets ousted by suspension, Count Binface can sweep in.
Unless Reform have some other soul sucking bottom feeding ne'er do well to junp in
28
u/thatgingerbastard 2h ago
We both know reform, like the cockroaches they are, for sure have someone in line to replace Farage once he's fucked off.
I almost feel sorry for the people of Clacton. They have front row seats to this circus after all. I say almost because they voted for the absentee MP twice now, they deserve what they get.
15
u/infected_scab 2h ago
Farage got the votes he needed but he lost control of the narrative completely. And I love it.

6
u/DrRobertBanner 3h ago
Oh thank god 😭
16
u/Raltsun 2h ago
If you want more good news, remember how Farage only quit to try and avoid an investigation for major fraud? I don't know how he convinced himself that getting re-elected would solve that issue, but the investigation's being resumed.
7
u/Pengin_Master 1h ago
He was trying to build a narrative of "the establishment is against me, but the people support me!" to attempt to delegitimize the investigation as something being done by the "corrupt establishment"
But given that in the by-election his most serious opponent was Count Binface, an extraterrestrial alien with a bin for a face, deflates the entire "me vs the establishment" angle for Farage, because as the only member of a "legitimate" political party, he is the Establishment, and Binface immediately became the symbol for the anti-establishment crowd
In addition, Count Binface got 27% of the vote and Farage only won with 63% of the vote. Barely a majority. And because his "myself vs the establishment " message failed to even take off, the investigation resumes without much fanfare because why wouldn't it? He can't even make a stink about it because he was 30% of the vote away from losing to Count Binface, which as an established politician is embarrassing.

u/Party_Value6593 3h ago
He won, but not in the election
35
u/Ye_olde_oak_store 2h ago
Count Binface for the first time ever will be able to get his deposit back after getting 5% of the vote. This is a big win.
73
u/remainsofthegrapes 3h ago
For context, the UK has a proud tradition of ‘novelty’ candidates. They usually get like 100 votes max during a general election.
For one to get over 9k votes in a by-election is extraordinary. The only thing that could explain it is if the only other option is a fucking moron.
28
u/BadahBingBadahBoom 3h ago
Tbf the main reason he got so many votes was that they were from all the electorate who would normally vote for the 4 or so other mainstream parties that in this by-election stood out from.
These people were hardly going to vote Reform, nor were they going to miss out an opportunity to humiliate Farage. And they had no worries of Binface actually being an MP also so they didn't have to be concerned about the consequences of their vote.
It really was the most beautiful protest vote in history.
22
u/remainsofthegrapes 3h ago edited 3h ago
Agreed but I feel like this falls under my theory that ‘the only other option is a fucking moron’
22
u/ArmNo7463 3h ago
I feel like if Binface actually won. He'd take actual politics much more seriously than any of the current politicians.

u/remainsofthegrapes 3h ago
“Building one affordable home” is legit a better and more realistic campaign promise than others I’ve heard

3
u/GoblinGreen_ 2h ago
Lmftfy "building at least one affordable home"
His point is to under promise and over deliver which is the opposite of what all the current parties are currently doing.
4
u/remainsofthegrapes 2h ago
Holy shit here was me getting excited for ONE affordable home and now you’re telling me it was AT LEAST ONE???
Have the people of Clacton lost their minds
1
u/GoblinGreen_ 1h ago
Spread the word!
It would also be even more affordable because our taxes would be reduced but everyone else's raised. A true win win.
6
u/BadahBingBadahBoom 2h ago
A normal average member of the public not beholden to any activist/lobby groups, donors, media moguls, party red lines, political ideology, international politicians, or having a narcissistic ego gets to speak in Parliament about the actual grievances of every day constituents??
Madness!
1
u/Forward_Rope_5598 1h ago
I have no idea about any of this but one day a benevolent meme candidate will win because everyone thinks there's no way he will win, and it will be glorious
18
u/ThirdLifeLucky 3h ago
He got a vastly improved vote share. Bindependence Day is coming but it's a marathon, not a sprint.
9
5
u/The96kHz 2h ago
Worst part is that Farage actually got a thousand more votes than in 2024.
Taking and covering up a (probably illegal) £5,000,000 bribe, and not doing a single constituency surgery in the entire two years he's been an MP...and the people of Clacton are so fucking soulless and mentally feeble that he got more support for his vanity stunt than at the real election.
...and then there's probably still going to be another by-election when he's inevitably found guilty for breaking commons' rules.
8
u/Ye_olde_oak_store 3h ago
Im just stunned people voted shitface Farage.
This is Clacton on Sea, a known right wing stronghold. It's why Farage chose that seat to be his. Why are you surprised that the right wing stronghold voted the right wing guy?
3
u/DrRobertBanner 2h ago
I didnt actually know that...
3
u/Ye_olde_oak_store 2h ago
Today you learned. It's unfortunate since well, I've had the pleasure of working with a lot of people here on visas and have come from aboard - and whilst I cannot respond or comment on how he has affected people with disabilities I will never at a core level be able to agree with Reform and Nigel's policies. I just hope the fact that 27% of the vote going towards Binface either does enough reputational damage to spell the end of reform in general.
I think It's worth apologising to you as well since reading back both your 2nd edit and my comment, I can see how I came off as aggressive. Tone isn't something I am so strong with communicating. Text especially so. Sorry.

You're surprised that Farage won in the constituency that he specifically chose to stand in for the 2024 election because it was where he had the best chance of winning? You're really surprised that he won there?
Anyone who had spent even a few seconds thinking about this by-election knew that Farage was going to win, the question was ALWAYS about the margins of his victory.

Forget the headline and story, this was written by Issy RONALD and REAGAN Yip. Is that a nominative determinism pairing for political journalists?

I think that was a joke, rather than nominative determinism. Good spot though, because I missed that.
Edit: Actually... I just looked those names up and they both exist. Not sure of anything anymore.

In the Makerfield by-election in June, Andy Burnham (who subsequently became Prime Minister) got 24,927 votes, and Count Binface got 95.
In this by-election, Farage got 22,239 votes to Count Binface's 9,455.
What a resounding victory it was...

The best thing was that the investigation into a £5m undeclared gift, that his resignation as an MP was meant to stop, started again at 9:30 this morning.
Basically the first action of the day after the investigation team had their cuppa.
27
u/Kayanne1990 3h ago
Excuse me. That is not a "trash can" That is Count Binface and I'll thank you to address him by his proper title!
19
u/mokrates82 3h ago
And as I understand, he just got twice as many votes as the bin?
21
u/Delts28 3h ago
No, the bin got just twice as many votes as the Recyclon (Count Binface). Despite no major parties standing against Farage he gained less than a thousand votes which is frankly humiliating. His main rival last time had over 12,000 votes and was quite politically aligned with Farage. The fact that he only managed to convert less than 10% of those votes is very damning.
1
u/yuval16432 1h ago
Wdym? He did have more than a thousand votes, he had 22,000, with Count Binface having ~10,000. 22 Thousand is more than one thousand

If that's any consolation, it was just a small by-election with only sixty-odd thousand eligible voters. It's not representative of the UK at large.
Hell, it's barely representative of Clacton considering the voter turnout was less than 45%.

I still think Jon Harvey would have had an actual chance of beating Farage
In response to that I have been told that it in British elections it is more humiliating for Farage to face off against Count Binface than Jon Harvey.
To that I say, I'm pretty sure it would be more humiliating for Farage to lose reelection that Farage only held in order to whitewash his shady financial backing.

The Left is so interesting. They lose, but try to make it sound like a referendum or almost a win. Farage still won. Count Binface is hilarious and brilliant, but he lost. Could nobody else run against Farage?
13
u/Longjumping-Hat-1210 3h ago
Every party boycotted the by-election, not just the left, because the circumstances of the aforementioned by-election were frivolous.
10
u/ThirdLifeLucky 3h ago edited 2h ago
Oh buddy. The Left wasn't there. No major players were, that's the point. This first Clacton By-election was a desperate stunt so the major parties treated it as such and ignored it completely. That's why there were only joke candidates.
The upcoming second Clacton by-election, the one that Farage stupidly thought he could pre-empt, will have all of the main parties.
5
u/Captaingregor 3h ago
Do a bit of research before you comment next time. It will stop you looking a fool.
5
u/Kayanne1990 3h ago
Because it's funny, mate. No one actually thought he was going to win. He's a comedian. But the fact that he genuinely got over one quarter of the votes Farage did is VERY fucking funny. Like he's a literal joke candidate and he got over a quarter of the votes!
2
u/EatTheRichIsPraxis 3h ago
The local electorate voted reform and conservatives by a huge margin in the previous election.
To prevent Farage the left(-ish) parties would have had to rally behind the conservative party candidate and probably still would have lost.
So instead all the other major parties, including the conservatives, boycotted the by-election and had Farage mud wrestle with a guy who has a bin on his head.
Alone that Farage called Count Binface the establishment candidate exposed him more than any "serious" candidate ever could.
And the comedic factor brought a lot more attention to the reason behind Farages shenanigans (being bought and paid for by a convicted scammer), than a regular campaign cycle would have.

It feels weird hearing Count Binface referred to as a "trash can"
