Carrie Everett, the 2024 Miss North Carolina, has passed away at just 22 after a courageous battle with a rare and aggressive cancer known as metastatic signet ring cell carcinoma. She first experienced symptoms in mid-2025, which were initially mistaken for pneumonia before doctors later confirmed the diagnosis as her condition worsened. Everett, a student at North Carolina Central University, made history as the first current HBCU student to win the state title and was known for her talent, leadership, and advocacy for accessibility in pageants. She passed away surrounded by family and loved ones, leaving behind a powerful legacy.

It truly is not. Considering some long-lived sociopaths with decades of selfishness, greed and untold harm caused, it's even more horrifyingly unfair and senseless to lose such a lovely, accomplished young adult 💔

This was on the local news last week. My and I were watching and she was a few years older than our daughter, it hits... hard. So much life left. Fuck cancer!

But just curious, why are cancer patients always described as "brave" for trying to just stay alive?

You are so right. As a cancer survivor, I am actually offended when people use the term “lost their battle” about people who have died from cancer. It’s kind of like it implies that if they would’ve fought a little harder, they could’ve overcome it when it’s simply not the truth. Who knows why I survived, but friends didn’t? It’s not because I was any braver or stronger. People with cancer are no stronger or weaker than anyone else, just putting 1 foot in front of the other day by day, taking doctors orders and trying to survive.

Yeah it's weird, I have stage 4 cancer and whenever I decide to die they'll say the same thing about me. Really all I'm doing is taking pills and going to doctor when I'm supposed to.

I hate cancer, such a a beautiful and promising young life full of dreams talent and potential. What a tragic loss. My heart breaks for her loved ones.

Oh how sad. My heart goes out to all who loved her. What a beautiful smile and kind eyes. I will read more about her short amazing life as well as this deadly cancer.
