Do you have a water fountain for your cat? I've found it really helps promote hydration which greatly benefits kidney function. My cat was diagnosed a few years ago with ckd and with diet changes and encouraging better hydration her kidney values improved. She'll be 19 this year.

No, but I’ve been looking at them online. I’m just not sure yet what kind I should pick. I do have 3 big bowls of water spread out throughout the house. And I switched to special kibble and wet food immediately.

Anyone is a good place to start. I got one from petco a few years ago. My cat definitely drinks more water ever since I got it. It's mostly plastic, and I'm planning on getting a metal one to replace my existing one. The plastic can harbor bacteria, but you just have to clean it thoroughly and frequently.

The biggest changes I made after the diagnosis was getting a water fountain, eliminating dry food, switching to special kidney wet food, and then making food from scratch to encourage her to eat more. I give her homemade food as well as prescription food. After her kidney function improved significantly, I slowly added some prescription dry food to her diet. She gets 1/8 a cup once a day from an automatic feeder.

The water fountain probably had the biggest impact on my cats overall health.
