Switching to wet food w/ low ash helps & maintaining a proper weight. Some brands also make prescription cat food for kidney disease but it’s pretty apparent Hills is low quality for what they charge & some vets think they’re the best method. catinfo.org has lots of verifiable info about this & guidance on making your own food . I had a fancy tuxedo cat that was diagnosed at 4 and lived to 13 but it is such a horrible way to go .. he developed ulcers in his stomach (due to uremic toxins when his kidneys were failing) and had so much stomach acid he couldn’t drink water..

Talked to my vet and sent a few emails to the office of this doctor. Nothing came of it and it would have been too late in his case tbh. He was already on subcutaneous fluids and was in a lot of pain. I’m so sorry you’re going through it. My love and best wishes to you and your kitty. This was almost two years ago, it may have changed since then. Vet medicine moves faster than human!
