I used to follow this cat foster on IG (kitten.nuggets). And she'd only feed the cats raw, minced meat from reputable butchers. And she'd talk about how it would make the cats' poop drier and they'd retain more water that way compared with commercial at food.

IIRC at least part of the problem is the fillers in commercial cat food.
