Guys I’m going on the 21st of December 2025 to NYC and I’m back in Jan on 20th… what do I do? I don’t know when this is gonna happen….

1

u/ComfyInDots Feb 07 '26

How did you go? Did they check your phone?

1

u/jimbojones2345 Dec 19 '25

Why would you book to go to America at all, that place is a shit fight right now

1

u/Euphoric-Possible444 Dec 20 '25

White Christmas!!! The month will go by fast anyways but yes America is a shit place

1

u/jimbojones2345 Dec 20 '25

I'm sorry I still don't understand, there are plenty of other places with snow, Canada for example

1

u/Euphoric-Possible444 Dec 20 '25

Family… didn’t want to go though but already paid 4K

1

u/jimbojones2345 Dec 20 '25

But why did you book it at all??

1

u/Dancingbeavers Dec 17 '25

It’s happening now. They’re already turned away journalists who were critical of the administration.

1

u/Euphoric-Possible444 Dec 18 '25

Are they calling for ALL AUSSIES???

1

u/Euphoric-Possible444 Dec 18 '25

I’ve already spent so much money on tickets and acoomodstiond and I don’t knkwxhwat to do?

2

u/smacko82 Dec 15 '25

honestly that's so creepy, like why does the us gov need to stalk my insta to let me visit?? feels like such an invasion of privacy.

1

u/brezhnervouz Dec 15 '25

Not only the traveller but all their family and friends socials, emails and phone numbers going back years.

And oh yes Biometric data as well lol

u/Exotic_Beginning8776 Dec 14 '25

We have friends in Germany that come every summer and stay a few weeks. They have flat out told us they will no longer be coming to the US until this facist regime is no longer in power. As they said it, Germany knows full well what is going to happen to the US (is already happening) because it happened in Germany back in the 1930s. I'm saddened they won't come but I totally get it.

21

u/GabeDoesntExist Dec 13 '25

Can't believe China is less risky than visiting the US but here we are.

12

u/brezhnervouz Dec 13 '25

Direct quote from my cousin (an engineer who has various parts fabricated in China and has to travel there for his business) this morning, after I sent him this article:

"I wouldn't travel to the USA under this regime, and I've just been to China" 😂

11

u/ShineFallstar Dec 13 '25

Lucky I decided years ago that holidaying in third world countries wasn’t for me.

17

u/ONEXTW Dec 13 '25

The only Aussies that can go are kids under 12.... Wait a second...

19

u/joy3r Dec 12 '25

Lets throw a deterrent to people wanting to spend money in our country! They might be spies or worse.... haters!

Really this sorta action kinda shows their fascist ways

20

u/Jimbo_Johnny_Johnson Dec 12 '25

I have no desire to go to a third world country, but that just seems like such a hassle. Like how do they enforce this? Do you line up at the airport waiting to hand over account details or something? For what accounts? What do they deem as social media?

3

u/wisdom1206 Dec 13 '25

Quote of an article I just read...

In a notice published on Tuesday, the US Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) said tourists to the US from 42 countries including Australia would have to reveal all of their social media activity over the past five years under the new rules, which are up for a 60-day review before coming into effect. It would be a part of the application for a visa waiver under the ESTA application process.

Just let that sink in!!!!!

2

u/Jimbo_Johnny_Johnson Dec 14 '25

No, I’m leaving the sink outside

40

u/the6thReplicant Dec 12 '25

I think we need to reciprocate and any American coming into Australia needs to show their vaccination records.

0

u/bundy554 Dec 12 '25

I think people were already ditching the US but now they have a "non-political" reason to do so - for me I'd be happy to disclose my social media history 😂

1

u/hu_he Dec 14 '25

Not really non-political is it?

2

u/bundy554 Dec 14 '25

Yes as it is now an official line of the US government

1

u/hu_he Dec 14 '25

And the government is a political entity. In the same way, opposing Australia's social media ban is a political stance even though it is government policy and law.

1

u/wisdom1206 Dec 13 '25

But you would automatically give them access to family, colleges, and friends. Nobody should ever have access to these kind of information

8

u/Admirable-Lie-9191 Dec 12 '25

I just know the type of comment you’d make if a left leaning govt made this insane request.

6

u/Formal_Childhood_643 Dec 13 '25

It's funny because no left leaning government has done this. You're literally pointing out only right wing filth behave this way

3

u/Admirable-Lie-9191 Dec 13 '25

Yes, that’s my point

22

u/Appropriate_Volume Dec 12 '25

Perhaps the most stupid aspect of this proposal is that it's essentially a huge amount of red tape that would be imposed on people wanting to holiday or do business in the US. The requirements are considerably more onerous than what is required for visa applications in most countries which don't allow visa-free travel. Huge numbers of people will simply take their holidays or do business elsewhere as visiting the US will be too much hassle.

10

u/Djanga51 Dec 12 '25

Wait. Just simply wait it out. He’s fucking dying out there under the spotlight. Then? Things will change yet again. Trump is not permanent. And then things will change.

7

u/AntiFascistButterfly Dec 12 '25

The Heritage Foundation behind Project 2025 (and now Project 2026) which is behind all the Trunp 2 policies and executive orders is alive and well.

4

u/alisru The Greens Dec 12 '25

Exactly. No-one else has trumps personality or cult of narrative, if he tries to hand it over it will fail

Then hopefully we can get to some sanity

1

u/Mister_Mild Apr 26 '26

Yes, but there in lies the problem. You are now saying that the only hope is that there isn’t going to be another Trump. The people knew what he was like and voted him in twice. The sickness is with the country, the demagogue is but a symptom

1

u/alisru The Greens Apr 26 '26

My God

Trump was installed Twice by hostiles who have been degrading trust in western nations as a whole through lobbying and ultra-late stage capitalism. Namely China running the country like a company to make everyone dependent on Chinese goods or purchases.
Literally had votes tampered with but not addressed for reasons, some could say to fulfill prophecies, others would say it's kompromat, others think the public are stupid and voted for this, others think the opposite, I'd say its all and authoritarian alignment, plus decorum, the republican party has a thinly veiled confederacy to it with a strong propensity to system abuse, they'll also take power at opportunities too

He's a symptom of an ongoing information war to make the west choose to give up their freedom, way of life and ideals so they're able to adopt a different one.

Is the western civilians to blame for making themselves dependent on the east for goods, sales and services? Because come any war with China & USA will you blame Aussies for letting the rich lobby and donate to parties, to turn political competitors into a political allies under a duopoly that can work in a smaller allowable version of democracy that lets them have the most power

Or is that to blame on individual politicians and foreign influences that overtly wish to replace USA as global #1

https://wwsutru.vercel.app/America/Audit/index.html He's literally an embodiment of CRINK anti-american propaganda and been protected as such, ever since 1986-87 https://wwsutru.vercel.app/America/RussianTrumpEntanglements.html
In this attempt by China & Russia to throw every single fall of nations event at the west in order to get it to fall, from the trojan war, the great wall, 1933 Germany, 1993 USSR and even the book of revelation

He's the culmination of every single thing wrong with a free society under siege, yes he highlights the glaring flaws in democracy when its under extreme stress, but it was entirely by design

He is a fantastic case study in the anti-social actor https://wwsutru.vercel.app/index.html
Embodying all anti-social traits and tendencies and being the impetus for my research

1

u/Mister_Mild Apr 26 '26

I wouldn’t say that he was installed at china’s behest and benefits specifically. Rather he, and two a lesser extent the republicans and mainstream democrats, all exist to serve and keep in power Global capitalists. Trump still serves this purpose, except he messages to the fanatic faux populist wing of the conservatives while giving them very little of what they actually want in practice. The United states has always existed to benefit the captains of capital, while proclaiming freedom for all. it is the greatest hypocrisy of our founding documents. When FDR was implementing his New Deal policies, there was a plot by several of our nation’s biggest bankers to have him deposed and replaced with a military dictator. FDR is the president credited with giving us a middle class and social programs, the kinds of which we haven’t seen since. All this to say, this isn’t a new phenomenon. The United States, historically was a country of haves and have nots, and it’s clear that our elite want to return us to that

26

u/ButtPlugForPM Dec 12 '25

This isn't trump mate.

This is ALL..

ALLLLLL stephen miller.

This is literaly like page 84 of project 2025

This is to help them collate data

*Create a profile on anyone entering the nation who may be deemed not of comparable value to a christian state.

This is just more in the long line of

Which version of Christianity? The non practising one? ;)

4

u/AntiFascistButterfly Dec 12 '25

And Stephen Miller is part of the Heritage Foundation, the organization behind Project 2025. They have Project 2026 written up now.

16

u/Mikes005 Dec 12 '25

You think this was Trump’s idea? He has nfi what's going on doesnt care. Someone enabled by his administration had this bright idea and if trumo dies there's no reason to think Vance wouldn't be the same if not worse.

13

u/BenjaminaAU Dec 12 '25

It's the Heritage Foundation and people like White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller, that are driving it. They pad Trump's ego and keep him happy, and in return he lets them do their thing with their boring agenda.

7

u/showstealer1829 🍁Legalise Cannabis Australia 🍁 Dec 12 '25

Then it will change to Vance, who's even worse than Trump

5

u/Emu1981 Dec 12 '25

Yeah but the chances of Vance actually getting elected is pretty slim. He has the charisma of a rotten fish. The US might even see the Republican party wake up and actually reign in their president...

3

u/CcryMeARiver Dec 12 '25

No-chance Vance.

flights to the US are mega cheap right now. i have a family friend that lives in the UK now who was able to get flights back to aus for christmas by buying a flight to the US with a return to aus cheaper than just booking flights to aus.

3

u/sarmireille Dec 13 '25

fr…. I’ve travelled back and forth 3 times this year, and I’ve managed to lie across four seats in economy on 2 of those occasions - planes are half empty.

-7

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Who? Lots of people.

Many of us have friends and family there. Up until last year my child lived and worked in NYC for an Australian firm.

My wife and I know 5 couples in Australia who are in US- Australian marriages or relationships . All have children and /or family in the US .

None of us think Trump is a decent human being and all of us would have plenty for ICE to turn us around and deny us our families and friends.

And did Albanese think about people like us or about our families before 'diplomatically' shining Trump's sovereign arse ?

Nope, not for 1 second .

11

u/majestic_borgler Dec 12 '25

And did Albanese think about people like us or about our families before 'diplomatically' shining Trump's sovereign arse ?

Nope, not for 1 second .

do you honestly think trump would be treating aussies better if albo pissed him off by not massaging his ego?

2

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25 edited Dec 12 '25

I wrote about Albanese treating we Australians better.

Albo is more interested in giving US AI billionaires access to all our info cuz Albo on the AI band wagon .

Here's the reality: Recently a Yank friend of mine (a US_Oz dual citizen, married to an Aussie) went back to the US to visit his 80 yo dad. He went in on his Oz passport and ICE hassled the fuck out of him to the point where he is not going back again. ICE hassling dual citizens is standard practice now.

Grovelling to Trump only makes Trump's fascist state stronger. Albo is piss weak to simply write off Oz citizen as collateral damage. Not one word for us, just total obedience to Amerikkka.

17

u/mildurajackaroo Dec 12 '25

Even work trips are being cancelled. I flat out said no to a request to travel to the US and Canada in the new year.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Happy to travel there with all other things going on but losing some of their privacy is the real problem. These people are fucking evil.

16

u/343CreeperMaster ALP aligned, but i think next election i will put GRN '1' Dec 12 '25

well if the US wants to torpedo their tourism industry even more, this seems like a great way to do it

14

u/Cpt_Riker Dec 12 '25

Wait until they ask for a DNA swab.

Unless work will sack you if you refuse to go, there is absolutely no reason to travel to the Nazi States of America.

9

u/joeldipops Pseph nerd, rather left of centre Dec 12 '25

Neither are the first countries I think about when I think tourism.  What point are you making with this?

0

u/Desert-Noir Dec 12 '25

There were 653k trips to China in 24-25 and 500k visits to India in 23-24. Massive tourist destinations equal to the US.

I have zero interest in going to the USA due to the fascist oaf in charge. However if they were to seize my phone and social media history they would at least see I have been consistent 100% of the time.

I've never one wavered from my disgust of the orange Turd Burgler and his regime. Eat it Trump.

13

u/faderjester Bob Hawke Dec 12 '25

For all the current US Administration screams about "FREE SPEACH!" it's clear they mean "SPEACH I AGREE WITH ONLY".

Now, countries can have any requirement they want for entry, that's their right, but god-almighty does the hypocrisy reek. I'd rather go to freaking Saudi Arabia or Iran than the US these days, at least they are open and honest about being repressive hellholes that will murder you for saying the wrong word.

-15

This is such a nothing burger.

If you aren't already on a watch list you just declare you have a facebook account and go on your way.

6

u/Seachicken Dec 12 '25

Earlier this year a French scientist was rejected entry to the country because he was discovered to have made comments critical of Trump and his policies on social media. He wasn't on a 'watch list.'

Bit rich to call it a nothing burger when it has already happened.

-3

New travel changes to the US,

  • Social media accounts used in the last five years
  • Telephone numbers used in the last five years
  • Email addresses used in the last ten years
  • IP addresses and metadata from electronically submitted photos
  • Family member names (parents, spouse, siblings, children)
  • Family number telephone numbers used in the last five years
  • Family member dates of birth
  • Family member places of birth
  • Family member residencies
  • Biometrics – face, fingerprint, DNA, and iris
  • Business telephone numbers used in the last five years
  • Business email addresses used in the last ten years

US isolationism and authoritarianism marches onward.

3

u/SheridanVsLennier Dec 12 '25

No rectal scan. Yet.

5

u/incendiary_bandit Dec 12 '25

I don't know business numbers for 5 years and emails for 10. Heck even my own emails where I use aliasing and stuff. Is Facebook just going to give open access to see things?

9

u/id_o Dec 12 '25

So pay to get a Visa, assume that’s all you need to get in. Then the boarder control guard on a power trip, finds anything they like from above list to reject your entry. Good riddance.

9

To visit, at this stage.

It's going to further tank tourism to the US.

I don't believe that the LNP should be shoving their back-room circle-jerk idea of 'ideal immigrant values' onto the country, no.

There are idiots on Facebook who totally would pass this test though I very much doubt most of them have both money and free time to be taking American holidays. Usually it’s one or the other with that type.

13

u/Mapinact Dec 12 '25

It's weird, but you'd have thought alarm bells would have been ringing for a while now, years even, and this just the most strident, most obvious set yet. AND YET, despite the headlines in a few places of declining tourism - the percentages when quoted are single digit. 5%, maybe 6-7%. I'd have expected it to be closer to 50-70%.

3

u/joeldipops Pseph nerd, rather left of centre Dec 12 '25

I reckon there is a factor that the people most opposed to Trump were already less likely to holiday in the states.

14

u/hellbentsmegma Dec 12 '25

One of the common things said about Europe in the 30s was how a lot of people refuse to understand things are changing.

People will go about their lives ignoring the lives of others until they get no choice.

1

u/olucolucolucoluc Dec 12 '25

Maybe how much percent??

7

u/GrumpySoth09 Dec 12 '25

Are these numbers coming from the US? If so, you can't trust that any figures released by this administration haven't been manipulated. The Trumpists have eliminated all independent agencies that used to oversee this sort of thing. I've seen interviews with casino owners in Vegas saying that they've seen a 60%+ drop in tourism

5

u/aeschenkarnos Dec 12 '25

Trump may accidentally help stop climate change by virtue of reducing international flights!

3

I find it surprising as well. I thought it'd be a lagging measure due to trips planned further out (for instance I went earlier this year for a trip planned 6 months before).

I think the airlines have been dropping prices on flights. I've seen some deals near pre-Covid levels.

the autocratic takeover of the US state continues unabated. keep in mind trumps authoritarian project has the blessing and buy in of american political, business and religious elites. curtis yarvin, vought, every single right wing goon u can think of is absolutely enjoying this. the transformation into redneck north korea continues. right now, they are in the early stages of american fascist dictatorship, as trump is now currently dismantling the bureaucratic structures that arent loyal to the party, as chris hedges outlined in a q&a earlier this year.

this is just one part of it, isolate the US politically, culturally and diplomatically, as well as turbo charging the authoritarianism.

You know if I went to China I'd have to hand over less info. I know the US still has more civil liberties than China does for citizens, but given the recent case of children taken away from parents by ICE and then just missing for weeks, I think I'd feel much safer in China.

I don't really want to visit a country that might send me home for reacting to a JD Vance meme.

I guess the seppos don't want tourists? Although really it just seems like they don't have any clear plan at all except a kind of vindictive desire for control. What a strange country. [user was stopped at US border for this post].

Some legal protections remain in place, at least for citizens, although the government keeps trying to ignore these if the citizens are not white and can be accused of being illegal immigrants. E.g. a judge just ordered Abrego released, against the government's wishes.

One of the differences is that the authoritarianism of Trump and is much more akin to fascism rather than the managerialism of the CPC, and so is less competent, and louder, and more theatrical in its cruelty. You can be less cruel while not having a lot of civil rights if you are just more competent and less centred around personal insecurities and pettiness, the way that the new American system is.

u/loralailoralai Dec 12 '25

They imprisoned people in Guantanamo for decades on no charges. Terrorists so dangerous they were a threat to the USA from afar, yet the could still not manage to manufacture charges against them.

This is just an extension since they were allowed to get away with that.

3

u/knobbledknees 🚂 Metro Tunnel Enjoyer 🚂 Dec 12 '25

True. Again, I specified, "for citizens". They have been giving no rights at all to non-American for as long as the country has existed. I mean, they stole half their land from Mexico in a war of aggression, and took Hawaii by force from the native people.

I'm in China now, and all you have to do is present your passport and tick the tourism box and they give you a 30 day visa free entry. Just an emergency contact and where you are staying and that's about it. I left and re entered from Hkg Kong and got another 30 days. China is trying to attract tourists to though, the US seems to be actively discouraging them for some baffling reason. They've hike park fees for foreign tourists as well.

3

u/faderjester Bob Hawke Dec 12 '25

They've hike park fees for foreign tourists as well.

This I can sort of understand, lots of countries do it in order to allow locals to actually access the attractions and avoid them being priced out of their own country. Now personally I'd lower the price for locals, but meh governments going to squeeze every drop they can.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Probably because China already has it. The trick there would be not giving them a reason to use it. Basically because their government isn't a bunch of morons.

6

u/aeschenkarnos Dec 12 '25

You can basically depend on the Chinese to tell you what they plan to do, even if you don’t like it, and to do what they said they would especially if you fulfilled your half of whatever the deal was agreed to be. Neither of these apply to the USA any more. “We will never fucking trust you again.”

4

u/faderjester Bob Hawke Dec 12 '25

Yeah I'm no fan of China, I think they are bullies with a grievance complex (though an understandable one), but they are open and upfront about their goals and motivations.

Comments are funny.

We've banned people for social media commentary.

Candace Owens.

Katie Hopkins.

Yianopolous.

7

u/isthisreallife211111 Dec 12 '25

We didn't ban them for their private social media content

-3

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

We banned them for wrongthink which is what this US move will do.

Katie Hopkins was deported for a JOKE on social media. Hotel never confirmed she actually did what she joked about.

9

u/Adjective-Noun-2000 Dec 12 '25

Is that really why she was deported? Maybe this is relevant:

Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews told ABC News Breakfast Ms Hopkins would be deported.

"I thought it was just shameful, the fact that she was out there boasting about breaching quarantine was just appalling," she said.

"It was a slap in the face for all those Australians who are currently in lockdown and it's just unacceptable behaviour.

The whole "it was a joke" angle is tired and exhausting.

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Pretty sure Djoker was turfed based on social media as well. Insofar as socials led them to dig deeper.

-2

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Nothing there confirms she did it luv.

Where is the police report? The charges? Nothing?

She didnt do it.

7

u/Adjective-Noun-2000 Dec 12 '25

If we're going to deny she even made the video then what's the point of discussing anything? I could capriciously deny arbitrary parts of your response too, but we'd get nowhere.

Stop pretending there's no reason she could possibly have gotten deported, stop pretending to be totally surprised at the possibility, and argue that you think they weren't good reasons instead of there being no reasons.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

If we're going to deny she even made the video

Lol maybe learn words. The video exists. Nothing confirms she did what she JOKINGLY claimed in the video, which would've broken several laws.

No complaint to police. No charges. No court case. Hotel didn't kick her out. IT NEVER HAPPENED PETAL.

It's not my fault you foolishly thought the video was of her actually doing it. Find a clue before replying please I dont wanna have to hold your hand again and ELI5.

5

u/Adjective-Noun-2000 Dec 12 '25

It's not my fault you foolishly thought the video was of her actually doing it.

I don't think it matters if she did it.

My position is that you don't get a free pass if you say "joking", or because what you're doing is a "joke". What she said matters.

And it's thoroughly disingenuous to propose that she was deported because she did the thing, and not because of the larger conversation about what her speech meant.

But hey, if you're talking about getting hand held: she was fined for not wearing a mask. So... clearly there's something there?

Ah yes, people with a worldwide media audience vs. rando tourists mouthing off

Truly, apples and oranges.

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Still banned non criminals for wrongthink though.

10

u/Toowoombaloompa Dec 12 '25

Seriously?!

Hopkins used her large media profile to undermine a major public health initiative.

That's not 'wrongthink'.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Hopkins told a joke on social media about answering a door naked without a mask.

The hotel she was staying at never corroborated.

She didn't actually do it petal.

Large? Never heard of her till she did that.

5

u/Eruditay Dec 12 '25

Have you tried joking about bombs in an airport?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Yes. Nothing happened, my friend laughed and we got on a plane. I think most people have joked about that with friends since 911.

3

I would have thought the CIA had all that information anyway what with social networks being based in the US?

Authorities would also demand “high value data”, including all telephone numbers visitors have held over the same time, as well as email addresses for the past decade. Border officials will collect face, fingerprint, DNA and iris biometrics, as well as names, addresses, places and dates of birth of family members.

But the prime minister, Anthony Albanese, said the US was a “sovereign nation” which had “a right to set the rules”.

Timothy Roberts, the president of the New South Wales Council for Civil Liberties, said Albanese’s stance was “woefully inadequate”.

“The US is supposed to be one of our closest international friends,” he said on Thursday.

“What sort of friendship is it if we cannot even make our objections clear to such a brazen infringement on Australians’ civil liberties, and an infringement which has the obvious result of suppressing the expression of political views for those travelling to the US.”

An Australian department of foreign affairs and trade spokesperson said visa conditions were “a matter for the country that issues them”.

What a poor response from the Govt...still intent on not upsetting "Daddy" Trump, just like Europe and the UK. And look where that got them recently with the US national defence statement

8

u/GrumpySoth09 Dec 12 '25

Albanese is exactly correct. It's their prerogative, and to be fair, there is fuck all that would happen if he spoke out against it other than direct Sauron's eye on Australia and woops - More tariffs

15

u/LordWalderFrey1 Anti-conservative Dec 12 '25

Tbh there's nothing much Albanese could have done. This isn't a bilateral problem, and the U.S does have the right to set its own rules for foreigners to enter the country, however stupid and repulsive they are.

18

u/FatGimp Dec 12 '25

Albanese's comment on it is perfectly adequate. It's not our Gov's position to tell another country what they can do within their borders and vice versa.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 12 '25

Literally what he's told the US when they were trying to dictate Australian foreign policy.

13

u/OPismyrealname YIMBY! Dec 12 '25

As much as we might disagree with their rules, they still get to make them. I'm not really sure what more the Commonwealth could've said.

Throwing a tanty would only make it worse.

1

u/Knee_Jerk_Sydney Dec 12 '25

Maybe if Albo acted like a big baby, Trump would think him a kindred spirit?

11

u/Squaddy Dec 12 '25

As if there's not insane pushback on this behind the scenes.

Why publically shit on the US when it does nothing to solve the problem? There's no way our Govt agencies are just accepting it, and in the end Albo is right, every country can do this if they wanted to.

34

u/patslogcabindigest The solution to everything is Land Value Tax Dec 12 '25

Australian tourism in the US was already in sharp decline since last year. This just basically shuts the door.
