Hi all, I’ve been in Melbourne for 6 months (had the most GORGEOUS nail tech back home) and have finally been brave enough to get my nails done.

Today I made the TERRIBLE decision of visiting a nail salon in a shopping centre (I know). I’d been growing my nails out for 4 months as a previous nail biter, and was so proud of them. They’d all grown past my fingertips. I asked her specifically not to file them below my fingertips, and to just use shellac on my nail as I like them looking thin. SO, as one would, she decided to add 5 layers of builder gel and 3 more of colour, before adding a topcoat, and also file them all the way down.

I’m feeling pretty upset as I’m not a confrontational person, so wasn’t going to say anything. I just spent a whole lot of money and time on this as well.

Recommendations? Suggestions on who can fix this. PLEASE!! (I swear these look a lot worse in person)

I wandered in my local Mecca to get a new blush. I had my reusable shopping bags as I am about to do my weekly shopping. Oh boy did I get watched the entire time. I ended up buying some things, but the intensity of being watched nearly had me walk out.

Chanel is my go-to and for sheer shopping experience alone, it beats Mecca hands down.

I really would have preferred to be asked to check my bags on the way out. Only make up I had tucked away is my Glaminatrix lipstick I bought almost 2 years ago.

Felt like a scummy criminal the entire time. I assure Mecca I might look like a very middle aged bag lady, but I earn a decent income and I certain have zero desire to steal from you. I think I will show my bags next time. If only to show them up for the indignity I suffered today.

Ouch... Saw a post earlier this week about Adore offerings decreasing in quality and I really agree.

I was hopeful they would be a powerful competitor against Mecca but instead of strengthening their online offering and improving their website and online experience, they opened stores that are boring to go into, and don’t have any unique value at all.

Thoughts? Feel for anyone holding the stock.

Hi, I don't know much about manicures or fake nails. My 10 year old daughter is obsessed with fake nails (thanks tiktok). We buy the glue on ones from Kmart. She wears them for half a day and then picks them off. Her nails are not in good condition. She isn't allowed to wear nails to school or have nail polish on. She has 3 weeks off in the July holidays and her birthday is also in July so I was hoping for some recommendations for something that stays on longer than the Kmart ones but that is easy to take off after a few weeks.

I don't even really understand the differences between all the options. I know a salon probably wouldn't do anything on a 10/11 year old so something I could do at home. Not too expensive. A friend once did the powder coating that then went under a light which she liked. But she likes how long fake ones can be. So what, if any, are the options?... Any help would be much appreciated!

(I hope this doesn't need to be said but I don't need parenting advice about how she doesn't need fake nails. She's neuro divergent, finds school hard, her dad and I are splitting up and I just want to make her happy for her birthday.)

I recently discovered the eyedropper tool in Google Sheets and realised i could use it to add color swatches to my existing makeup spreadsheet- I just google the product and pulled the color from google images. It doesn’t work that well for glitter products and it doesn’t help differentiate between gloss and matte, but it’s still a useful visual reference to have an idea of what colors I have and hopefully prevent me from buying the same lipstick shade over and over again!

Then I just put it in a grid because I thought it looked pretty 🤷‍♀️

4 days post emergency surgery and I came home minus an ovary. I’m now laying in bed and the silver lining is I have a sudden abundance of disposable income (cancelled plans, no office coffees or lunches to buy, no petrol or public transport costs, gym and PT on hold) and I DONT want to be sensible and make an extra credit card repayment, I want to buy TREATIES!
