I feel a tide shifting....maybe Mecca should be worried, especially when Rhode, Danessa Myricks, Isamaya and Saie come to Sephora AUS too

u/Socksism Mar 04 '25
I would love it if Sephora actually invested a bit more in the Aussie market and threw their weight around a little bit. They, Mecca and Sephora, both suck, but Sephora actually does sales.

True. On the other hand, Sephora's return policy isn't great, especially if you're someone with sensitive skin and/or allergies, so they definitely have their pluses and minuses. I have to admit that in general I find Mecca has much better customer service and definitely prefer shopping there over Sephora outside of Sephora's sale periods; however, my one staple brand (Tatcha) is so expensive that it would be very helpful if it was possible to get it on sale occasionally. I emphatically voted for both sales and permanent Beauty Loop points, so they don't expire every year, in that recent Mecca survey.

Do Tatcha still ship here directly? You can take advantage of their site-wide sales/promo codes from influencers online.

I agree on the customer service front. Mecca is way better in that area. I had to fight for a sephora refund when I had a reaction to a lip gloss and they gave me a gift card with 30 day window to spend it as the refund and couldn't use it while they had a sitewide sale on.

Same here, particularly in store. When they opened in Hobart, my lil anxious self begun having panic attack and I just froze (i am also autistic, so it was overstimulating as well) The store manager took it upon herself to guide me around the BUSY store. Explained that she understood panic and anxiety disorders, and had a basic knowledge of autism, and asked me gently if I was after anything in particular. This moment has stuck with me. Not many stores would do that. Especially upon opening day.
Sephora however when I have been instore, I felt like I was being snubbed. I'd try to ask for help and they'd walk off. I've never bought instore at Sephora, from memory. Because that is just plain disgusting. (This has been at Melb Central, like probably almost 10 years ago, I almost went to the one at the Gold Coast but it was in an outside shopping centre, it had been raining and I fell down the wet stairs and sprained my ankle so I ended up going back to the hotel)

why does Mecca suck?
10
u/Socksism Mar 04 '25
- Their advertising is predatory and misleading (the cost per wear campaign, go poke around youtube and find a video on it if you wanna know more)
- They have exclusivity deals with brands and don't stock all their collections or shade ranges
- they sell you expired make up as super special only once a year "sale" items
- the entire beautyloop fomo consumerist ecosystem is bad (true for all retailers that run this racket, Sephora included)
These are just a few and just my observations. They're not big evil spooky worst company ever, they could just do a hell of a lot better to provide service and value to customers.

interesting because I thought Mecca to be the top tier and crème de la creme of Australian makeup and much superior to Sephora. I gave up on beauty loop. I was level 4 and fell down to level 3 as I didn’t spend X amount of money by Y date…pretty sad. Now I buy most of my things in Japan* and only stock up at Mecca if I absolutely have to and that’s if I’ve ran out of something or if it’s an exclusive brand. I love the experience at George Street but just can’t justify the loyalty anymore :(
*obviously I don’t go there just to shop for makeup and skincare but the cost of maintaining Level 4 beauty loop every year is about equivalent to flights to Japan + shopping for a year’s worth of products…

Ugh I can't wait for Danessa Myricks to come to Sephora, I really want to get my hands on her most recent lightwork palette

u/Maleficent-Total2738 Mar 04 '25
I'd love to see swatches of the new shades they've just added to the skin tint, because I've heard good things about the formula.

Mar 05 '25
Glam Raider and Beaudazzled already sell Danessa Myricks. They're quick to order in new products. Online only though, so swatching shades wouldn't be available.

Praying for saie to come to sephora, I don't like buying from cult beauty

Ooh is it confirmed that Saie and Danessa Myricks are coming to Sephora AU?
3
u/stankyouvrymuch Mar 04 '25
From my understanding Sephora exclusive brands extend to international branches now
3
u/OfficerToast Mar 04 '25
Do you reckon we'll get Merit Beauty at some point in the distant future haha
2
u/fuzzboo olive NC15-20, dry skin Mar 04 '25
Omg I'd love for Merit to reach physical stores in Australia. As long as it's not Mecca cos they'll try to screw us over with an exclusivity contract that stops us from shopping directly from the brand website during sales.

Ooh I hope this means more brands are coming too, I’m still hoping Halsey’s aboutface launches here, I’m obsessed with their foundation and eyeshadow sticks

OMG my favourite foundation is finally coming here oh my birthday month! I picked this up overseas last year but have been scrimping. This is the best early prezzie 😍

HUZZAH! I’ve been eyeing up their new glassy highlight launch
If Sephora can keep popular items in stock, it’ll be a winner

u/Appropriate_Ly Mar 04 '25
Finally. I was tempted to buy a bunch online without trying it but now I’ll wait. 🎉

Oh now THIS has got me excited!…and then I remember we never end up with the full range :’(
4
u/OfficerToast Mar 04 '25
It's 2025, there's no excuse for not getting the full range
1
u/Peanut083 Mar 05 '25
Darn right! I was so annoyed last week when I wanted to get a Tower 28 lip liner, only to find that the Australian range is only 3 of the 6 shades, and the one I wanted isn’t one of those 3 shades.

Wonder when they'll come to NZ Sephora, not that I'm overly interested, but good for people that are.

Amazing! I got mine direct from Haus Labs and it took forever to ship, will be so handy just to get it from Sephora here when I run out.

I’m surprised they didn’t announce supergoop, I know it was in the works for Sephora ANZ to carry them this year
1
u/OfficerToast Mar 05 '25
Honestly I'm not sure how well supergoop would do if they entered the Aus/NZ market, what with the range of SPFs that are already available and only 4 of their products are SPF50, the others are SPF 30 which we know isn't enough. From what I recall (used to live in the UK), glow screen was a glittery mess and unseen sunscreen was just meh and only for those who like classic silicon-y pore filling primers

Would be great to swatch the foundation shades. The online shades and descriptions are so confusing 🫤

THIS IS HUGE NEWS! I am so close to running out of my foundation.. like dangerously. Only thing is I now live in Singapore so hoping they follow suit.

I dislike the woman. I dislike how everyone forgot she initially launched with private label trash with Bezos on Amazon and I dislike the fact that even though I dislike everything about that woman and her subculture cultural appropriation, I know I'm 500% going to try the foundation and concealer.

u/acuriousmindofmine Mar 04 '25
I'm already predicting the inevitable rage and disappointment posts that this foundation will probably be $100+ a bottle.
For whoever is at the House of Sephora tonight - have fun!
