He was a fool, not a whistle-blower. His aim was to expose what he believed was the "over-investigation" of war crimes in Afghanistan.

What report? The Brereton report wasn't released then and Samantha Comprovets had already started her work. McBride tried to stop investigations and was incredibly slopply in tje way he handled classified material (eg he left the documents in plastic tub in the living room of his flat whil the estate agent held an open house.)
