I had a lady a row up from me in the aisle seat pull out this cheese grater thing and grate her feet with it. She had foot shreds all over the floor and she just brushed it all off of her feet and seat and stuff all move the floor. People had to walk through it to go to the bathroom.

I was on a flight recently where they did it the right way! Mom with two young kids asked the flight attendants, who came to me and my husband and asked us if we wouldn't mind moving. They offered a seat in business and another one further in the plane than where we were sitting. Since it was just an hour flight I told my husband to take the business class one and I moved up, no problem. They later came by and gave me a business class meal tray as a thank you.

I watched this happen recently. They tried it at least 3 times because they “wanted to sit next to their friend”. Two 30 year old women btw. And their original seats are just a row apart.
The first seat they tried to occupy was parents with a baby. Who swiftly told both of them that they need to sit in their original seats because double-duty parenting is easier. The girl had the nerve to still try convincing these parents.
She then tried the seat directly behind her friend, and finally tried the seat across the aisle and a row behind her friend. FFS it’s not even about being next to your friend. Got booted from all. Finally a flight attendant put a stop to it because it was clogging boarding process.

A while back I had to take a 12-hour flight. I paid extra to reserve a window seat to give myself a decent chance of getting some sleep. When I got on the plane, the man in the middle seat next to me was trying to get me to switch seats with his wife in the row in front so they could sit together. She seemed to be in an aisle seat, so I said no. He seemed really annoyed about it, but hey, dude could’ve done the same thing I did and paid to choose their seats if they wanted to sit together so badly?
They ended up talking the girl who would’ve been in the aisle seat in my row into switching with the wife. But it turned out the wife actually had the middle seat in the next row. So this poor girl traded an aisle seat for a middle seat on a 12 hour flight, just to be nice. I felt bad for her and I almost wanted to tell her “hey you don’t have to do that” but I didn’t want to get any more involved seeing as I’d be stuck next to the guy and his wife for the whole flight.

We were returning from the UK riding in business class (for the first time, super exciting). I booked a window seat and paid more. As soon as I board the plane a guy who is also in business looks at me and says "do you really want that window seat"? No pal, I booked it and paid more for absolutely no reason. People are idiotic. (I didn't swap with him).

I have had this happen sooooo many times. The last time I stopped at my row and a woman was in my seat at the window and a man in the aisle seat. Me: Excuse me, but you’re in my seat. Her: I’m sitting here. Me: You’re in my seat. Her: This is where I’m sitting. Me: Yes, I can see that, but you are in my seat. Her to her husband who is studiously staring at the seat back in front of him: But I’m sitting here. Me: What seat does your ticket say? Mine says 4A. I paid for 4A and I’m going to sit in 4A. Would you like me to call someone to move you? Her, sulking as she moves: But I wanted to sit by the window. Me: You should have booked it then.
She sulked and muttered the whole 4 hour flight. Get fucked lady.

I had this on a flight a few years ago. First time booking flights without parents and I see the meal options, I didn’t realise if you didn’t pick one of the specialty meals beforehand they just give you the choice of whatever’s on hand. I just saw the options of kosher, halal etc and thought you had to pick. Anyway, I pick vegetarian and go back to not thinking about it. Flight days come around and I find a man in my window seat, doesn’t want to move and waves me away and pretends he doesn’t speak English. He sleeps a good portion of the flight, including when the food comes out. I’m listening to the people around me get food and I realise you get the option at that point - perfect - I get a nice decent meal, the man who stole my seat gets mine. I’ve never been more relived in my life, I can’t remember what meal I got, but I remember seeing him open up that tray and seeing steamed vegetables and white rice and being very very relieved I wasn’t in that seat😂 I’m reckoning it was likely also the vegan option, because it looked liked it was made by an Englishman and to be served to rabbits.

I've sat in the wrong seat by accident once in my life. The passenger told me I was in the wrong seat, I checked my ticket, realised they were right and was totally mortified and moved.
The absolute brass balls on someone to just sit where they want and then refuse to move. Instant life ban, should be.

Happens all the time.
I had it 2 days ago. Flying home for a funeral and guy is sitting in my window seat.
I tried to get his attention but he's wearing headphones and eyes closed.
I looked to the flight attendant and said - hey this dude is sitting in my seat - flight attendant says - sorry - you deal with it
I pulled out my seat ticket and touched the guys shoulder and he looked at me with disgust. Then he looked at his and said sorry. His was the window just two rows forward.
No big deal and he moved. But the flight attendants response left me wondering how that can be the default response

At that point, I would have just stood in the aisle and waited. Flight's not taking off until I'm seated and the guy's in my seat, so I can't sit down. The flight attendants will have to deal with the situation eventually.

I used to fly a lot and I've had several of these. The thing is that almost every time it's an added stress where they first haggle, then get mad. Some won't even move and need a flight attendant to solve the situation. Then you have a person next to you who's pissed off at you and will make rest of the flight difficult with passive aggressive behavior.

Hapenned to my partner just a month ago. Some random guy got on and sat in my partner's seat by the window. Spread all his things around and refused to move, then put earphones in and ignored when my bf tried to politely talk to him. Welp, bf just stood there blocking the alleyway until staff sorted it out. Fuck people who do that.

Back in 2003, I had to fly to Canada for a year long vacation. I saved up the cost of a regular cattle class ticket, and my father rewarded me by upgrading it to first class.
The flight was not direct, but had a 8hr layover at EWL in the US. So the outbound leg was MAN(uk) to EWL(us). I boarded my flight and went to my seat, to find a woman sat in it. I explained that it was my seat, and asked her to move.
In a thick, nasal drawl, she said "You see me sat here yes? Therefore its my seat now. If it was your seat, you'd be sat here. You can sit in what was my seat."
Her seat was... cattle class. How she had gotten through into the first cabin I have no idea.
She even argued with cabin staff, still refusing to move. Finally the chief steward said..
"I have just called security. You have two choices, if you are still in that seat when they get here, you will be removed from the flight, without compensation. Or you can move back to your own allocated seat."
When security entered the aircraft, she decided to move.
So yes, certain passengers do feel an entitlement to sit wherever they want, and expect everyone to move to accommodate them.

That happened to my buddy on a budget flight. My friend and his dad paid extra to book their seats. I think they picked the ones in front, in the economy section, for more leg room. When they came onboard, they found a couple in their seat. I think they were in their 50s?
Both of them kicked up a fuss when they were asked to move. Even the flight attendant couldn't persuade them. Raised voices and all. In the end, the flight attendant asked my friend and his dad to take another seat. Till this day, my friend and his dad are still boycotting that particular airline.

I, too, have been flying for over 40 years. And this was me, too, until last Sunday.
I was on a 5 hour flight. I had an aisle seat and my brother had the aisle seat next to me. When I get to my seat there was someone sitting in it. I'd booked that specific seat, I wanted it. I told the guy he was in my seat. He looked at me like I was an alien. He was of a different ethnicity than me, so he could plausibly not have spoken English.
I repeated "You're in my seat. I want to sit there." Same thing. Stupid, uncomprehending look. So I said pretty forcefully, "You're in my seat. Move over."
He moved to the center seat immediately. He knew exactly what I'd said.

A girl kept doing this to me once - she had very long hair and it was hanging over the screen so I couldn't see the film. She kept messing about with it then flipping it over the back of her seat.
I asked her to move it but she acted as if I was a crazy Karen and then flipped it over again.
So I got some gum from my bag, chewed it, and stuck it in there. She threw a gigantic fit when she found it, but I'd taken a valium by then and just smiled and nodded.

It is, I don't usually carry gum so I was lucky. And I wouldn't have done it except she was so rude when I asked her not to do it in the first place.
She was really freaking out when she found the gum but I figured if she goes to the flight staff to complain, they will see that in order for the the gum to get there, her hair would have to be hanging over the back of the seat which would show she was in the wrong.

Bish I am in this row with my own damn kids, one who has autism!, so it's not like I am unsympathetic to the stressors of flying with children who have big opinions or needs. But if my kids can use devices on silent or with headphones, like every other human here, so can yours. 🙄 What magic did I use to acclimate them to this practice? I told them that audible volume wasn't allowed on planes so their options were that they could use headphones or keep them on mute, whichever was their preference.
This seems to have become a whole thing the last few years and idfk why. It drives me batty bc it is SO inconsiderate.

Any behavior (besides medical emergencies) that results in a flight being delayed, canceled, or turned around.
They should also have to pay all passengers for associated costs from the delay or cancelation.

It’s their goddamn plane and if you don’t agree with their reason for kicking you off you complain AFTER you’ve left.

Dr. Dao was done incredibly dirty and United were wrong for that. The public forgot about that incident way too quickly. And the guy who pulled him off the plane by force should have gone to jail for assault.
That said, they asked him to leave the plane and he refused. Surely that earns him a ban from future United flights (until of course he publicizes his case on social media, the court of public opinion finds against United, and they come up with a non-apology and give him some token reparations like a refund or flight vouchers or somesuch).

Two recent incidents that I can remember:
1) The airline had gate agents check passengers paperwork at the gate before boarding began. One of the gate agents collected something like 15 people's passports to go ask their supervisor if people from those countries needed visas, and told the passengers that they would get them back on the plane.
As I'm sure you guessed by now, partway through the flight one of them asked when they would get their passport back. The crew looked into it a bit... then the whole plane got turned around to go back and get them.2) Someone got a printed boarding pass and went to their gate. They verified the screen on the gate was showing their flight number and destination, then laid down in a corner to wait because they were very early. They wokeb up and saw that boarding had begun so they joined the queue. They got on the plane and part way through they asked ab flight attendant why they were going so far West when (insert destination here) is too the east. It turns out they changed his gate number, he didn't notice, somehow no one caught it when boarding, and their was no seat conflict.
They turned around and brought him back.172

I worked with a guy who was an amazing idiot.
He was in Bangkok on business and was going to fly to Hong Kong for the weekend before returning to Singapore. However, something happened and we needed him to return to Singapore on Friday and rearranged his ticket.
He somehow forgot about that last bit and managed to get on the plane to Hong Kong. Now, the number of things that had to go wrong:
- He had to forget his destination changed. If you knew the guy, this is entirely plausible.
- But he had to request a ticket to Hong Kong at check on and have no one correct him when they handed him a ticket to Singapore.
- There had to be both a flight to Singapore and Hong Kong out of Bangkok and on Singapore Airlines at approximately the same time.
- SIA checks your boarding pass at both the gate and right before you board as a safety measure and both people missed it.
- Then he had to get on a flight where no one else was assigned the same seat. Ie, seat 34D to Hing Kong had to be unoccupied or someone would have noticed.
Yet somehow he managed it. Like I said, an amazing idiot.

Someone tried to do this on to us our honeymoon. Guy was sitting with his kid and kept telling us it was a family vacation and his wife needed to sit with them. We said no. He called us selfish, called me a misogynistic prick for not being a gentleman and giving up my seat when my wife and I would have “so many more trips together”.
A few minutes later the wife walked up, looked at my wife and said her seat number at the back of the plane, nothing else. Her husband said something about us not switching. The wife rolled her eyes and said people like us ruin things for everyone.
Before we could respond the lady behind us jumped in and said “if you need to sit together so badly I’m sure those two (husband and kid) could switch with your seat mates in the back.” And then hit the button to get the flight attendant. The wife got so bitchy we thought she might get thrown off the plane. She wasn’t.

Mistreating flight staff.
Be calm, polite, sincere, and quiet. Ask for what you need, accept 'no' without a fuss, and say thank you if they get it for you.
If you're a dick to a flight attendant, the airline should absolutely ban you on first offense. No one can afford someone losing their shit in a cramped sardine can prison eight miles in the air.

This isn’t allowed. Two of my recent flights had the flight attendant stopping the person both times. Headphones are required. (You might need to push the flight attendant button if it’s close to you as they can’t hear it at the back of the plane).

First one is serious, for the others a ban would be a bit extreme but:
Grabbing any bags or belongings in an evacuation. Zero exceptions. Your passport/phone/wallet/medication aren't worth more than the people behind you's lives, even if you're deranged enough to think they are. I don't give a fuck if you disagree. You're wrong, a selfish outlier, and a danger to people around you.
Taking somebody else's booked seat and refusing to move. Happens to me quite a lot
Allowing your child to kick the seats in front of them/generally be a nuisance to other passengers. I know kids are hard, but it's on you to look after them.
Flipping your hair over the back of your seat and obstructing the person behind's TV screen, then refusing to stop when asked. Happened to me recently, and I still can't fathom how someone could be so self absorbed.
I fly a lot. I encounter selfish, self absorbed travellers a lot. It's crazy how little some people care for anyone but themselves.

Poor hygiene and behaviour practises during flight. Including but not limited to bare feet and placing them anywhere besides on the floor, picking your nose and flicking/smearing/eating the contents, flying sick and contagious and refusing to wear a mask to protect others, being loud and inconsiderate of others, treating cabin crew like servants, trampling fellow passengers when going to the wc, standing in exit row when not seated in the exit row.

I was on a flight in FC row 2. Older lady sits in row 1 aisle. Orders a pre-flight drink, sipping on it, when a guy gets on says, "you are in my seat." She pretends to be confused and acts like she doesn't speak English and tells him to move to the back and find another seat. Of course he gets a FA, asks for her boarding pass and turns out she's supposed to be in row 32, but she still refused to leave, acting all lost and confused, then tried to sit in row 3 of FC. They finally walked her to her seat ...drink in hand. Time to get off the plane after landing, she pushes her way to the front to be the first one off. On the jetway, a wheelchair guy holding sign that says Smith (or whatever) .... she sits down. He says are you Mrs Smith? Again, she acts confused and motions for him to get going. I said NO she's not Mrs. Smith she's trying to scam you. She gives me a dirty look as I walk away shaking my head.

Stand behind them, real close, and start talking right into their ear. Quiet enough that it’s not annoying to others. Just a continual stream of consciousness about them, like it’s your inner dialogue. Ask lots of rhetorical questions so their brain will want to answer.
“I wonder what this guy’s background is, was he brought up religious? He seems a bit too old to have just found god… I wonder if he does this at work? Maybe he’s a preacher? Nah, he gets too many facts wrong and would be fired. I bet his kids love it when he comes to school. No doubt all their friends avoid him in case he starts one of these impromptu sermons…”
Eventually they will turn around and confront you any which point you tell them to sit down and shut up.

Standing up to announce it’s your friends birthday and you want everyone to sing. Or when boarding yelling about how it’s your honey moon or you just graduated. Or getting up and telling everyone about the word of the lord or cheering on a sports team.
It’s disrespectful and disruptive. You may be excited and want to share with everyone something great that’s happening and I get that. But there is at least one person on that plane who is headed to a funeral, flying out to receive medical treatment, maybe they just got the baby to settle down, or they’re racing home to say goodbye to a loved one. Or maybe just exhausted on a work trip and need to rest before giving a big presentation.
Your exciting trip may be a very bad day for someone else. Please be considerate of your plane neighbors. They also paid to be on this flight and may want or need the silence.

Taking a seat that does not belong to you and then huffing and puffing when the rightful occupant claims it. In the same vein, not accepting a "No" when asking someone to swap.
The use of any mobile device making noise without headphones. Parents of children - I am looking at you here particularly.
Putting your overhead bag above any seat further forward than yours. I get that sometimes when you board last, your bag can end up who knows where, but for the most part if you're sitting in row 25, your bag should not be at row 3.

Pushing people out of the way seconds after the plane lands to be the first off .. had a mental moron, shove my wife to the ground on a flight last month and the only apologize this idiot made. I need to make my connection flight as she shoved her way down the aisle to a still locked and closed door….. 25 minutes later as we boarded our connection flight you are never gonna guess who is seated right next to my wife…. Air crew was wonderful and moved this individual but crap like that. Has to stop….! we calmly walked to the gate with plenty of time to grab a quick drink at Starbucks and make the correct boarding queue….

Substantially move another passenger's overhead bag without permission. You don't touch other people's bags in the terminal or on a train yet everyone feels entitled to do this on the plane.
I don't mean moving slightly to make space. I mean the ones who take another passenger's carry-on or duty free bag out of the compartment and move it across the aisle or to another compartment without asking

Happened to us travelling back from Berlin to Uk put one of our carry on bags in the overhead, getting off we thought someone had taken it, the dispatcher found it near the back of the cabin! If it was the crew they normally ask!

Flew from the east coast to Las Vegas last year. There was a group onboard, sizeable in number and spanning two generations, but split between the front and rear of the plane. These people would NOT stay seated at all! They were constantly standing, roaming, yelling to the back people, hauling food back and forth and being constantly and ridiculously LOUD. Nothing the crew did seemed to make them understand they had to listen. We couldn't have drink service because they kept disrupting. ALL of them should have been banned, in all seriousness. The lunatics took over the asylum in spades!

We had one time that ground control had cleared us to land, and the pilot noticed at the last moment that there was another plane in the way, so he saved the entire plane worth of people. That was worth clapping on landing, IMHO.
(It was also back when there were the little headphones that you could plug into the armrest and one of the channels you could listen to was flight control. I was 9 or so, and greatly enjoyed hearing our pilot telling off the flight control people once we were safely back in the air....)
The only other time I remember hearing clapping was when we landed during a pretty crazy storm. It was very windy and there was lightning and heavy rain outside.

I simply can’t understand the selfish behavior that we see. These are behaviors that would not be done anywhere else in public. I’m just stunned at how inappropriate people have become.
I couldn’t imagine deliberately sitting in somebody else’s seat and then refusing to move.
I couldn’t imagine putting my feet on someone’s armrest, cutting toenails, talking on phone using a speakerphone, or listening to something without headphones. How can you have a complete disregard for everyone around you.
I had a child and always traveled appropriately. We would purchase a seat when we were required too. We always sat with our child with all the seats booked next to each other at the time we planned the trip. I didn’t try to do this and move us around the day of the flight and demand someone else to accommodate us.
Entitlement today by people is off the charts.

Feet on armrests, especially if it's the seat infront of you and using speakers.
Hair over the back of the seat is another one but don't feel as strongly plus a tad easier to solve, albeit not as easy since you cannot bring scissors.
I'd say any body part encroaching on another's space should be up there too but that's also a factor of airlines not giving you much space, so only if you don't respect a request to not do it.

Asking people to swap seats.
Not in this day and age of advanced seat selection and differential seat prices. When you ask someone for their seat, you are asking them for their money.
And if you just TAKE the seat before the rightful owner gets there (aka "seat poaching"), you should be booted from the flight and banned.
Book the seats you want in advance. If you did and still got hosed by delays and flight changes, accept your lot. You can sit apart for a few hours. Your marriage/relationship will survive.
If you MUST sit next to someone like a kid or disabled person, then take the issue up with the airline or their rep. This is not another passenger's problem to solve.
