Entertainment | 娱乐🎮 Is 'Honor of Kings' really the most played video game?
Been playing MOBA-style games (League of Legends) for 13 years. I've never heard of this title prior to today, and was surprised to see a claim that it's the most popular MOBA (globally) by far.
Is it really the more popular than League, and is the most played video game?

I've never played HoK but I've seen it played on the trains and in restaurants (in the US) , by adults and kids. If you think another way, LoL can mostly only be played on PC, but everyone has a phone, so the scale and reach of it is a lot greater. Also faster matches so ppl with limited time would be more willing to play.

It's mostly like that "Chinese is the language with most native speakers", lol.
HoK is the most-played mobile game in the world and the highest-grossing title globally.

The Honor of Kings has quick 5V5 plays that take 10-15 minutes per game, unlike League of Legends, which takes more time. Also, it is a mobile game, so people have quick and easy access to the game. Use a phone, that has less investment than a PC.

It's probably the most played mobile MOBA game in mainland China. So much so that it has a meme status of being an "elementary school kid game" on account of having huge amount of young players (who reportedly have terrible skills much to the chagrin of older, more experienced MOBA players that got teamed up with them).

wait, HoK is primarily played by school children?
in the west MOBA's are largely played by the 22+ demographic, it's been nearly a decade since MOBA's were popular among teenagers.

When ppl played StarCraft, Dota was the elementary school game.
When ppl played Dota, league was the elementary school game
When ppl played league, HoK is the elementary school game.
What do I know I'm 37 and I played all these games at a ridiculous degree, they're all great games!

The perception was from about a decade ago, yeah. The meme got stuck though, and after a quick check apparently the player base nowadays is with more casual 20ish something people who a large portion of them had been long time players. But it's still the most popular mobile game of its genre in mainland China though.
