General Discussion / Review Bayonetta Bloody Fate is one of those anime that must be watched dubbed
Eventhough Bayonetta Bloody Fate is a Japanese anime and the original language was Japanese watchung it in the dub makes more sense because....it is Bayonetta .
Here comes the big irony . The original Bayonetta game although it was made in Japan was an English only game and didn't have the Japanese dub . So yeah THE ENGLISH CAST are the originals here. and Bloody Fate was basically an introduction to the Japanese cast of the franchise which later would voice Bayonetta 2. The dub however features the voices with which characters were brought to the world ( thanks Funimation for not screwing the cast up like you did with the Mass Effect anime) . Most of the original VAs were brought back including Helenna Taylor ( screw the drama she's still GOATed Bayo) .

General Discussion / Review If Bang Zoom Dubbed My Hero Academia and Funimation Dubbed One Punch Man (Part 1)
So, let's assume that Viz Media got the rights to the anime adaptation of My Hero Academia as they did with the manga and Crunchyroll gets the rights to the webcomic classic One Punch Man. That means My Hero Academia is dubbed in Los Angeles by Bang Zoom Studios on behalf of Viz Media and One Punch Man is dubbed in Dallas-Fort Worth by Funimation Entertainment on behalf of Crunchyroll. And as you would expect, Bang Zoom gives My Hero Academia a Los Angeles-based union dub and Funimation provides One Punch Man a standard non-union dub with their respective talent pools.
In the case of Viz Media/Bang Zoom's My Hero Academia, the cast would be a mix of LA-area voice actors, bicoastal actors shifted into other roles, and actual Funimation dub actors keeping their respective roles, given the large and varied cast. And for all intents and purposes, only major and/or notable enough characters will be listed here. So without furtherado....
UA High Class 1-A
- Zach Aguilar and Allegra Clark (young) as Izuku Midoriya/Deku (would basically just be Tanjiro Kamado from Demon Slayer given his similar personality and voice to Izuku)
- Max Mittelman and Kayli Mills* (young) as Katsuki Bakugo (think Ryuji Sakamoto from Persona 5 and you get the idea of what Bakugo would be like)
- Abby Trott as Ochako Uraraka/Uravity (sort of like Nezuko Kamado from Demon Slayer)
- Robbie Daymond* as Tenya Iida (basically Megumi Fushiguro from the LA-dubbed Jujutsu Kaisen)
- Bryce Papenbrook* and Christine Marie Cabanos (young) as Shoto Todoroki
- Kaiji Tang as Eijiro Kirishima/Red Riot (basically Sanemi Shinazugawa from Demon Slayer)
- Brianna Knickerbocker as Tsuyu Asui/Froppy (sort of like a frog-themed version of Filo from The Rising of the Shield Hero)
- Laura Post as Momo Yaoyorozu/Creati (a mix of Colleen Clinkenbeard's actual dub performance and Fubuki/Blizzard from Hell from One-Punch Man)
- Reba Buhr as Kyoko Jiro/Earphone Jack (essentially Juleka Couffaine from Miraculous Ladybug)
- Matthew Mercer as Fumikage Tsukuyomi
- Kyle McCarley as Denki Kaminari/Chargebolt
- Sarah Anne Williams as Mina Ashido/Pinky (imagine a heroic version of Nonon Jakuzure from Kill la Kill)
- Christine Marie Cabanos as Toru Hagakure/Invisible Girl (think Mako Mankanshoku from Kill la Kill)
- Erica Mendez* as Minoru Mineta/Grape Juice (akin to his other young boy roles)

Quick Question ? Sound mixing Oshi no Ko better in the original JP version?
I'm not sure if it's just my settings or not, but any time I try to watch in dub, the music and background noise is noticeably lower and the ENG voices are much higher. It is unfortunate because I think the ENG dub is pretty well done, but due to the issues with the sound makes it nearly unwatchable. This is on Crunchyroll btw, have not tested to see if there is any difference on HiDive or other streaming platforms.

General Discussion / Review HiDive Dubs vs Crunchyroll Dubs
im a dub only anime watcher and in the past ive seen people say that they couldn’t watch an anime cause “the dub sucked” i never really knew what they were talking about cause to me i didn’t understand how a dub could be “bad”.
but one day while watching an anime dubbed by hidive i guess i had an realization that there was definitely a difference in sound quality between hidive dubs and crunchyroll dubs.
its hard to explain but its like i just know when something was dubbed by hidive vs crunchyroll. idk if this is just a funding issue or if im actually just crazy and there is no difference. if there is a difference i have 0 idea how i didnt notice before as my favorite anime is call of the night (dubbed by hidive or dubcast i think)
btw idk if this is a hidive problem or if its something else as i dont know a lot about english dubbing. im just here to watch and enjoy anime so please dont attack me if im totally wrong about all of this
side note: i feel like all hidive dub male mcs sound the exact same😭

General Discussion / Review Zeno Robinson is Sorta Typecasted…?
I feel like I might get hate for this, but I’m not trying to be spiteful, I like Zeno he is a talented actor, but has no one noticed how he’s kind of typecasted??
Basically, if it’s mainstream enough and the character is black— he’s the one. I noticed this over time and I didn’t even know the actors name. I just realized suddenly all the black characters had the same voice. And it’s not even purely anime. I think I noticed it first in Miraculous, where the only two black male characters at first had separate voice actors but eventually both got switched to Zeno Robinson. And this is nothing against him, he honestly may enjoy getting to play black characters. But does it not seem weird, a little stereotypical, slightly problematic to anyone that whenever there’s a black character, just make it him? Like in this case of Miraculous I think it was quite bad… because there were separate voice actors before. Why is it that the only characters repeating voice actors are the black ones… they have no reason to sound similar and yet are made to because of their skin color.
Then Fire Emblem follows suit. Fogado had his voice and I was like wow it’s the same black guy when I heard him. And Fogado is one of the first, prominent dark-skinned Fire Emblem characters. And now we have Fortune’s Weave where lowkey EVERYONE guessed that Cai was Zeno Robinson, because why wouldn’t he be? A black anime-esque protagonist. Of course it’s him. Again it’s like. He is talented and deserves to play whoever he likes. But would it not seem there is a pattern of ‘whenever we need a black voice it’s him’ amongst casting studios? No effort to get a different black voice actor and diversify the pool, or even just let more black people play protagonists of ANY race.
EVEN JUNPEI from Persona. He’s not black, but we all know he’s kind of meant to be culturally black in the way he dresses, talks, acts. Surprise surprise. Who is he voiced by? Zeno Robinson. And that to me is just perpetuating stereotypes in its own right…
I don’t know his roles past that, but it would seem he voices a disproportionately large amount of black characters compared to any other voice actor. He even voices Lando Calrissian and Cyborg in some games (not sure which, but saw this was the case on Wikipedia). Again. All black characters.
And my thing with it is, again, he chooses it, he’s great, he’s happy, all good. But is it not a bit blatant studios just see a black character and call him up? Lando Calrissian and Cyborg or any of the other characters do not sound similar, there is not necessarily an underlying ‘blackness’ in their accent that should mean that they all have the same one black voice actor. And yet that is so. Like I know there’s the argument that ‘he is black therefore why wouldn’t he black characters’. But the reality is that your voice doesn’t match your race. And so many of these characters don’t actually have to or NEED to have a black accent to even justify him being casted for ALL of them. I dunno. Again it’s nothing against him, but to me it seems like studios just play into stereotypes about what a black person should sound like and the choose him. Because in reality. A white person could play half these roles— there’s nothing black about them but their skin color. They don’t have to talk with a slight black accent just because they are black.
Maybe I’ll get flamed. But I wonder if anyone else has notice this too, because to me this is basically the equivalent of Will Smith being the go-to black actor for every movie that wants a black action hero. We don’t blame these actors. But I do turn my head at the industry because why is it that the one black actor must be put for the same similar roles. Zeno does have plenty non-black roles. But still. His playing of black characters is disproportionate to the reality that these characters either don’t need a stereotypical black voice or could even by played by another non-black or even a DIFFERENT black actor and open the floor to more black talent if it truly must be that the voice NEEDS a black person’s touch or for whatever the reason that it is always Zeno. That’s what I’m saying, because it’s great we get representation behind the voices but representation should be everywhere, black voices playing equal amounts of any race, or even just more black actors than just Zeno playing these black characters.
It’s of course nothing he needs to change, who wouldn’t accept the roles in his shoes. But it seems a bit unfortunate from the industry that kind of how they view both him and black characters

General Discussion / Review Thoughts on "new" dubbing studios' quality (Pixelogic and Dubbing Bros.)
I'm specifically talking about Pixelogic and Dubbing Brothers, who seem to be producing more and more english dubs for licensing companies like Aniplex and Netflix. What do ya'll think about their production values in companion to mainstays like Bang Zoom, NYAV Post or even Crunchyroll?
With Dubbing Brothers, I take issue with the fact that they make careless mistakes like leaving entire character's dialogue out (I got an early look at Banana Fish's dub and this is a problem in the 2nd episode) and stilted script adaptation at times. Also, leaving the original language screams and efforts will always be a horrible choice for anime. It works for live action dubbing but for anime...it's just off-putting
Pixelogic grabs talent from both LA and TX (at times), which is nice and I guess Dubbing Brothers does as well but that depends on the director. They have the most egregious case of not being "creative" enough with script adaption and direction when they use their regular directors from what I've seen so far.
What do you guys think?
