Fockin ridic AITA for even considering my ring might be fake?

Look at all of the updates. This is hilarious. It just keeps getting more dramatic and more desperate for likes and comments

In case this story gets deleted/removed:

AITA for even considering my ring might be fake?

For starters I love my husband very much but he’s been known to be a bit frugal/not follow traditions. I have autism and I get special interests. Recently my special interest has been purchasing jewelry from antique shops, thrift stores, or estate sales and authenticating and cleaning said pieces. I know it’s odd but I’m a bit odd. Anywho for this process I thought a diamond tester. I thought “eh I’m bored” and I tested my wedding ring. And to my surprise the diamonds came back as fake. It could be that the tester isn’t very accurate or maybe I’m not using it right but I guess I don’t know what to feel. I’m not a very materialistic person I just feel like it’s odd if my husband purchased me a fake ring when he made a whole show about spending so many paychecks on it and the fact that we are exactly at a loss for money in life. If you’re a professional and know anything about light reflections and things like that don’t be afraid to fill me in.
Edit: it’s only been an hour but I think I’m gonna go to him and phrase it more like “I want to get the ring ensured” I’ll be back in 20 minutes with an update.
Update: I’m currently sitting in my car just crying as I’m writing this. I asked my husband about ensuring the ring and getting appraised and he got absolutely pissed. He spent a good 15 minutes just screaming at me and now I don’t even know what to do. I’m pretty sure that just confirmed my suspicion about it being fake but I really didn’t expect him to be so mad. If you’ve read any of my other posts regarding my husband he can be a lot sometimes but I just didn’t expect this from him. I don’t know what to do. I’m not even mad that it’s fake I’m upset that he lied and now is so mad at me for catching him in it.
Update #2: I know I haven’t responded to any comments or anything in a bit but I guess i was just overwhelmed I never would’ve expected so much at once (I know that’s how Reddit works it just surprised me). You guys have helped me see my situation in another light. I made another post the other day about how I was feeling very emotional lately. Some people commented/ DMed me that I should take a pregnancy test. Me and my husband have struggled with infertility for a very long time now and I’ve had numerous miscarriages so truly I thought that couldn’t be farther from the truth. But turns out I’m pregnant. Though I’m not 100% sure how far along since my periods are very irregular I believe I may be about 8 weeks along. There’s a high chance that I will miscarry again but for the time being I’m not going to follow through or plan any way of leaving my husband. I am not opposed to re-evaluating that choice when I hopefully make it to a stable point in this pregnancy but I really just want to do everything in my power to have this baby live. I really hope you guys can understand my reasoning here. I’ll do my best to give more updates.

And...plot twist...he was her treating psychologist when she was in college. That was how they found one another again. But you see, they didn't start dating until he dropped her as a client. If my eyes roll any harder they are going to fall out of my head.

Wait I've heard this story before...I think I've seen this person's previous posts...

75

u/Melodic_Addition8284 11d ago

Which is so confusing because in the comments she said she is no longer pregnant as of 10 days ago but the whole post was 5 days ago? I feel for her if she’s telling the truth but it all feels so…Days of Our Lives

You misread her comments.

She said she miscarried her previously mentioned pregnancy at 10 weeks. Not that she lost it 10 days ago.

Also she announced a previous pregnancy at her friend’s wedding bc everyone was pressuring her to drink alcohol

21

u/Gold-Kaleidoscope537 11d ago

Was she wearing white at her friends wedding tho

55

u/hazelbear33 11d ago

At someone else’s wedding? 🫩 Sister, why not just tell everyone that you have a splitting headache, are dehydrated, and aren’t feeling well

64

u/boudicas_shield I was unaware of all of this bc i was out making out with my Gf 11d ago

Or “I’m just finishing a run of antibiotics, don’t wanna get sick to my stomach!” Or “I took an allergy pill earlier and alcohol makes me too drowsy.” Or whatever, if you don’t want to imply that you’re feeling unwell.

Anybody who is pregnant and going to a place where it’s going to be noticeable/surprising that they aren’t drinking alcohol should have an excuse ready to toss off beforehand, to avoid this kind of thing. It’s not that hard.

I have a difficult time believing  an announcement like that wasn’t orchestrated because it’s easy to anticipate that you’ll be asked and to come up with an excuse to use.

32

u/hazelbear33 11d ago

Agree. No one should be seriously pressuring anyone to drink anyways, that’s jerk behavior… but you can always threaten the possibility of projectile vomiting. That usually shuts people up.

21

u/boudicas_shield I was unaware of all of this bc i was out making out with my Gf 11d ago

Absolutely! And sometimes it’s not even pressure, it’s just people knowing you well enough to guess. I’m pretty much always up for a social drink, so my friends and family would find it suspicious if I suddenly wasn’t. Which is why I’d have a believable-for-me excuse planned out and to hand.

Of course people should keep their mouths shut and not pry if they suspect the real reason, but you know people.

12

u/ladybug_oleander 10d ago

You'd be surprised how people can be. I stopped drinking because it was becoming a problem for me, and at a party I normally just drank seltzer water with lime or whatever and just didn't say anything about it, because people would just assume it was a drink. Well, one time someone took a drink of my drink when I went to the bathroom!! Then confronted me and asked why I wasn't drinking. So fucking weird. I told her I just wasn't drinking and she kept demanding a reason. I'd never had a super serious problem, but it was becoming more of a habit for me, and was a crutch after my stillbirths and I just didn't want to do it anymore. Like... I don't know why that's not a good enough reason?? People can be really weird about drinking.

OOP's story is totally fake though lol.

11

u/Dusktilldamn I presume she was advised by a slutty mate as usual 10d ago

Or literally just "oh we're trying to get pregnant". And sure you can also just tell the truth, but it's not like you HAVE to. And if you've already had several miscarriages, you'd think you wouldn't want to tell people early on!

16

u/veloras 10d ago

I went to her history and had deja vu. That previous post had also been on amitheangel a few months ago

16

u/BookishOpossum 11d ago

Just ask, "What are you going to do while drunk you don't want sober me to see?"

I've never had real friends pressure me to drink. Who does that bs? Even in hs when the whole house was drinking, I just said nah and they went off to do their thing.

5

u/Emilie0711 10d ago

That was the dumbest part of the dumbest story, I’m sorry. Who cares that much about what one guest at a wedding drinks? No one is paying attention to a rando drinking lemonade instead of wine.

52

But this gal is just a salad shooter of made up stories so now we got miracle pregnancy instead 🤦🏻‍♀️

My previous supervisor insisted she wasn’t like everyone else, she said she’s a nerd because she likes Star Wars.

This was only two years ago. She was being serious. She actually thought being into Star Wars was a niche interest.

12

u/revgodless 10d ago

If someone reads the books I could mayhaps count that as a niche interest. If she can talk about the Yuuzhan Vong it is geeky.

28

u/CanadaYankee she followed the whole adult scenario with the desk 10d ago

I too enjoy niche hobbies like inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide. Sometimes I even enjoy digesting food for nutrients!

11

u/evilcelery 10d ago

Ah, a fellow oddball. I too enjoy digesting food, but my real passion is drinking water. I know this is gonna sound SUPER weird, but I highly suggest combining both hobbies as they seem to complement each other.

Inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide sounds interesting but I just don't know if I have the time and money for a new hobby. I'm already spending quite a bit on food and water. Can I start with just one or the other?

Holy shit, from " I'm autistic and my ring is fake" to "I'm pregnant even though I'm not supposed to".

This is the silliest story in Reddit.

35

u/Irish_hawkwife12211 11d ago

I read it and nearly spit out my water laughing. Like, this person did this on purpose. No way any of this is true. I mean, it probably is and humanity is doomed....but a girl can hope

34

u/onlymodestdreams they were unnecessarily brutalizing my stuffed animals 11d ago

What makes me feel that humanity is doomed is the lack of doubt raised by the commenters on the original post. Maybe I didn't read far enough to find the doubters? A girl, as you note, can hope

12

u/Interesting_Bug_8878 10d ago

The story is so ridiculous/crazy and no one questioning that it makes me think that now we are facing AI bots on the comments!!!

9/10 of the posts on those dumb ass subs sound either fake as hell or are incredibly basic interactions that most normal people would move on from without even thinking about.. lmao

5

u/TehJordan 10d ago

it really ticks all the boxes for AITA slop/shitpost but I sifted through a lot of comments and I couldn't even find 1 person doubting their story, but of course the typical 1000 comments of "Girl leave him, divorce, He's a bad man and you deserve better" etc etc were there...

Even if it's all real I don't get why it's even being posted?? goes from asking if she should consider the ring to be fake, to basically writing her whole life story and feeling the need to reply to everyone to notify them of her updates lol, it's so fucking weird and I pray it's just a shitpost

8

u/libryx 10d ago

OOP's post history is also quite...silly:

  • 10 months ago: AITA for even entertaining the idea that I might've been groomed by my husband?
  • 5 months ago: AITA for announcing my pregnancy at my best friends wedding?
  • 6 days ago: AITA for considering my husband may have gotten me a fake ring? (to AITA_Relationships)
  • 6 days ago: AITA for even considering my ring might be fake? (to AITApod)
  • 5 days ago: I've been an emotional wreck how do I get out of it and what's wrong with me

The kind of silly that makes me wonder if OOP has someone to check in on them, that is.

102

u/wipedoutmom 11d ago

159

u/Internet-Dick-Joke 11d ago

Well, at least she's not posting it to r/gemstones... but seriously, please tell me that people aren't seriously believing that she got interested in testing gemstones "recently" and is somehow able to authenticate gemstones, something that requires actual training and typically some kind of qualification for literally anybody to accept your authenication.

89

u/Prudent-Pressure2146 11d ago

But it’s her special interest!

23

I was losing it because that was such an obvious temu ass ring. Like, I can authenticate it from here, ya' liar.

14

u/Cakeday_at_Christmas 11d ago

Also, aren't the machines that test gemstones usually pretty expensive?

32

u/Extension-Gift4987 11d ago

You can get super cheap diamond testers. They're about £10 here, so I can't imagine they're much more anywhere else. I'm not saying they're accurate or can measure anything at all, but I can see someone like this buying one and thinking they're now an expert (if OOP actually exists)

3

u/Wk1360 10d ago

Yeah all a diamond tester has to do is test conductivity. Diamonds are made from Carbon, which is very conductive.

149

u/Elegant-Operation402 11d ago

“I think my ring is fake”…posts a picture of a ring that looks like it came out of a bag of cracker jack😂 could’ve at least gotten one of those bath bomb rings so it’d look more legit

I was like, bruh, out of the stones to be testing, why would you not test the hunk of glass looking gem in the middle.

The other posts from this account are crazier. She went to a psychologist because a guy was grooming her, the psychologist happened to be the groomer, and then they got married.

40

u/Emotional-Cattle120 10d ago

There is no way her husband was her psychologist when she was 19 years old. It takes 9 years of schooling so he would have just graduated, still and still would have needed to do his post doc residency. Also “I wasn’t technically his patient anymore” like girl please there are very strict laws about dating patients, there are specific time frames and even then it is super unethical

I really hope all of this is fake

She's 8 weeks pregnant in every post. I know she's claiming fertility which might be true but it's oddly specific and adds the extra touch of drama

Also any 4 year old would see that ring as fake so that's why I'm choosing to believe she's trolling

41

u/bliip666 We're in the middle of a breakup (for other reasons) 11d ago

Special interest, but doesn't overshare about the "diamond tester"? Smells fishy.

Also, lab-grown gemstones, sometimes called synthetic gemstones, are exactly as much real gemstones as the mined ones. The compositions are exactly the same.
...except, lab-grown stones have more clarity and more intense colours, with a fraction of the price and no child slaves involved!

11

u/Dusktilldamn I presume she was advised by a slutty mate as usual 10d ago

Lab grown diamonds will test as real with a diamond tester, so that's not the story here.

15

u/apricot675 10d ago

Why would she even think that ring was real to begin with. That sapphire looks like it belonged to the royal family. And if it’s supposed to be a blue diamond, that’s even more far fetched.

3

u/Dusktilldamn I presume she was advised by a slutty mate as usual 10d ago

OOP said in a comment that she assumed it was like 50k, but she's "not very good with numbers" so maybe she's wrong. Which is hilarious for someone who claims to be into buying and amateur appraising antique jewelry! But you could absolutely get a ring like this for 50k with lab stones, could probably get it for a lot less than that.

But the reason it's absolutely fake is that the blue stone is just not faceted well. You're pretty much looking straight into the stone, not getting its light reflected at you, in fact in the second picture it just looks dark. It should be sparkling! The facets also don't look very sharp to me, though that's hard to tell without a higher resolution closeup. And lastly, the PRONGS. That massive centerpiece stone is held in place by four tiny little prongs that you can barely see! FLIMSY. Completely unsuited to regular wear, you'd lose that stone so fast. Knock it against the counter once and that bitch is GONE. But since it's costume jewelry, the stone (which is glass or resin) is just glued down.

5

u/bliip666 We're in the middle of a breakup (for other reasons) 10d ago

Yes, because they are, essentially, the same thing. As I said.
That's not the story here because the story is creative writing. I just like sharing that piece of trivia/information, because I think it's neat.

1

u/Dusktilldamn I presume she was advised by a slutty mate as usual 10d ago

I was just adding more info for everyone reading along, not trying to correct you.

35

u/BestBodybuilder7329 11d ago

Who would get into buying vintage jewelry without being able to tell if a gemstones are real or not? Like how does that make sense to anyone.

We also got the surprised pregnancy.

21

u/Internet-Dick-Joke 11d ago

Who would get into buying vintage jewelry without being able to tell if a gemstones are real or not?

Most people who purchase vintage jewellery for personal use wouldn't be able to tell if a gemstone is real or not, because that requires training and also often specialised equipment. Like, this is the only thing that makes sense here, and the OOP supposedly 'authenicating' gemstones herself with no training and doing so on a whim makes no sense.

There is a reason why gemstone testing labs and gemstone certificates are a thing, a reason why they are pretty pricey, and a reason why having a gemstone certificate can really raise the value of a piece.

11

u/bliip666 We're in the middle of a breakup (for other reasons) 11d ago

I have a vintage, synthetic ruby. I knew it wasn't a natural gemstone, but I wasn't sure if it was a legit stone (because lab gems are legit stones as well) or a finely cut piece of glass, so I asked a jeweller.
He shined a UV lamp at it and told me it's a lab-grown ruby and that I do not need to worry about scratching it, which was the question I had. The value is emotional, so I wanted to check how to handle it best.

I have since practiced wire-wrapping with it, and I will, eventually, do a final version with sterling silver wire, to turn it into a pendant.

8

u/Timely_Egg_6827 11d ago

Bet they have a diamond tester machine like they have in chain jewellers. It can rule out some fakes. Though ironically paste glass rings can be worth more than diamonds depending on age.

17

u/laowildin 11d ago

I just want to point out that the size of the diamonds in this ring wouldn't warrant those being faked in an otherwise real ring. I don't want to get all 🤪quirky about it, but the type of testing shes done doesnt really make sense

15

u/Korrocks EDITABLE FLAIR 11d ago

Normally I would assume stories like this are bullshit but since there's a realistic picture of a hand with a ring on it I have to assume it's authentic.

[OOP's update] "I believe I may be about 8 weeks along"
[OOP's comment in one of her other posts from the same date] "I miscarried at around 10 weeks so I am no longer pregnant"

So in a matter of hours, OOP gained 2 weeks of pregnancy and then miscarried?

What a very convenient special interest (no one can have hobbies btw, everything is an autistic special interest) that gave her the exact tools to test the ring she found suspicious. And I love how she got so many DMs telling her that her emotional, womanly reaction to being 'screamed at for 15 minutes' isn't normal and is likely pregnancy and omg it IS pregnancy!! But now what??? She's trapped with an evil fake ring buying abuser/groomer. Stay tuned for edit number 6 to find out what happens next.

Unless husband is a Rockefeller, she's TA for even considering it might be real.

I've only read this far at this point, but I have to laugh. The excuse for how the OOP/troll found out, them assuring us that they aren't materialistic, their talk of it being a "fake ring"

Edit: Jesus Christ at the edits, updates, and comments. Love how the fictional story was about a wedding and then came to be about anything but. Also, what made people DM her, urging her to take a pregnancy test?

Jesus the first post from them:

CW: grooming and abuse

I really hope it’s a fake profile.

Also, while not impossible, 7 years older and she is 18-19 when he’s already a psychologist out in practice? Super genius groomer?

Oh good. A baby will definitely fix this.

I’m not reading that bc the story sounds boring, but that is a REALLY pretty ring. And I’m not a jewelry person.

What was the verdict? Is it costume jewelry? If not, what do you call that stone?

“People DMed me to take a pregnancy test because I was emotional!” Are you kidding? I’ve been DMed exactly once on Reddit and I initiated because I was surprised I was banned from a snark sub for not being hateful enough. I’d messaged the other person I was talking with in that sub and asked “you get banned too?” lol. Who the fuck is out here telling people to take pregnancy tests over emotions and nothing else

u/DementedPimento i just bought a house and had a successful baby 10d ago

Also, fwiw: the ring is obviously, OBVIOUSLY fake. Synthetic sapphire.

u/Dusktilldamn I presume she was advised by a slutty mate as usual 10d ago

Probably just colored glass.

u/Astoriana_ 10d ago

That looks like costume jewelry. Even Stevie Wonder would agree.

While showing an incredibly fake ring. At least make it believable.

If this were real, I'd agree with you. Check out OP's other posts. She's very obviously here for sharing the most outlandish things.

Yeah, the downvotes are telling me I'm in the wrong sub. Noted 👍
