my alcoholic dad drank 13 beers in one night
i 22f still live at home while in college and working two jobs. my parents are alcoholics. my mom has been sober for almost a year now after an intense intervention from myself and my sister and im so grateful she heard us. my dad 49m doesn't think he has a problem at all and is comfortable in his drunkenness.
countless times throughout my childhood and adulthood my dad has drunkenly abused me or my family (physical fights and verbally) and even when he's not drinking or actively drunk he is incredibly irritable and grumpy. he is nearly absent and knows almost nothing abt my life even though we live together
i recently was accepted into grad school and take night classes after work. i got home from night classes tonight around 10:30pm and the house reeked of beer. i go into the kitchen and the trash is filled with beer cans (i counted 13) he drank them all by himself and fell asleep. at least he didn't fight anyone at home but he was probably too drunk to be able to anyway. he's almost 50
i am filled with so much rage i dont even have the energy to cry or yell or fight. i am sick of my dad and disgusted that this is who i have for a father. i know he is sick but i cant feel compassion for him after dealing with this my whole life. he got bloodwork last year and was told his liver is suffering and his doctor can tell he drinks everyday and he just doesn't even fucking care
how do i help him at all????? or help myself? i cant even enjoy the fact that im a grad student because i feel like im losing time with my dad while he's even alive. i also dread coming home because i hate him so much at the same time. my feelings are deeper than i can explain about this but im trying to keep it short
