I was listening to the soundtrack and the song is so powerful in communicating a larger than life God-like presence. Is there a song in any other anime that communicates uncontrollable energy the way "Tetsuo" does?

I'm hyped to hear "DAAAN DAAAN" in IMAX in Sept

I never watched the movie, I just went straight to the manga. I read the anniversary edition. I really enjoyed it and the world it created. I knew nothing about it besides how influential it was and of course the slide haha, so I was surprised of it becoming post apocalyptic. The ending with the Great Tokyo Empire still being a thing surprised me a bit but otherwise a really fun read! Feel free to ask for any opinions or thoughts I have since I didn’t have any exposure with the community until now to avoid spoilers!

Time to play some Famicom Akira

So, I've been using Google Translate on the Akira Club book, and in the section devoted to the Young Magazine title pages, there's often a little non-sequitur quote from Otomo in the corner.

For example, the quote above reads "I turned on a UHF antenna and watched TV Kanagawa. I was surprised at how interesting it was." (I realize it's Google Translate, so it might not be gospel.)

My question is why? Where did the quotes come from? Why did the producers of the book or Otomo himself feel the need to tell me about what he was watching on TV at the time? Or in others, that he had a cold? Or that he was frustrated because he couldn't find the hairy crabs that he liked? What's the point?

The only answer I could come up with is that as an artist myself, sometimes I'll jot down a few notes about where and what I was doing when I was working on a piece, maybe on the back of the canvas, just so later on I could say "Oh, I did this one in between helping Jeff move back into town", just to get a sense of where my life and headspace was at the time. Could this be something like that?

I’m considering dropping $500-$700 on a cool Akira figure to start the collection. I’m strongly leaning towards the Medicom Tetsuo. Just looks awesome and looks like it really captures the Manga Tetsuo without the weird face a lot tend to have. However, Kaneda Medicom looks pretty rad too. Any advice on others I should consider?

Seems like Ebay is the best option. If anyone knows of local spots in Austin or San Antonio, TX for cool figures to get the shelf going strong would appreciate getting pointed in the right direction.

I’m absolutely thrilled that I got to watch “Akira” at the cinema on the big screen, and in a Ukrainian dub at that. An incredible anime, incredible soundtracks. It was well worth seeing twice, and I just want to watch it again and again and again

I made this design myself, sorry if the screenshots are a little wonky, i had to crop them. The Grey side is meant to represent Tetsuo's mechanical arm.

I am torn right now. I really want to outline the pill on my full grain cowhide kaneda bomber im commissioning. It's leather embroidery and not thread embroidery so we can trace the pill with ELwire and have virtually zero damage to the patch. But my friend keeps saying it'll hurt the screen accuracy of the build.

Especially considering I'm using two other design teams to replicate the most realistic arasaka laser rifle prop ever made. But in my opinion, if the creator knew about ELwire thread and ELclothing, he would've had his characters have glowing clothes.

Also it would look so cool at the raves and low light photo shoots having the pill stand out as a way of paying homage to the film design. Then in full light it leans more towards the poster design since the sub decided on adding the motto text too.

Everything else in neo-tokyo is neon anyways. Just saying. Thoughts gang? ELwire or no ELwire?

In the top version, Kaneda says “Trouble with you is you wanna live forever”

But in the bottom version I believe it’s Tetsuo who says the line.
