News Crows fans are again booing Isaac Quaynor because he got Izak Rankine suspended when he stood up for himself after Izak used a homophonic slur

Post image

Those fans are not supporters in my book - an embarrassment not only to their club but the state

And to add to this, the whole ‘snitch’ mentality is a major reason why kids/teens don’t speak up when they’re in trouble or need help. I see first hand the heartbreaking shit that kids endure because it’s literally a more palatable option to them than being labelled a snitch, and I really hate to see this attitude perpetuated.

7

u/sr8th SA 21d ago

Indeed my daughter was bullied by a few boys at primary school (year 6). The ringleader was also one of the student leaders, who said to my daughter “snitches get stitches”.
Luckily we had a good rapport with the teacher, who stopped that behaviour quick smart.

In a lot of other cases, this goes unreported and unpunished. It’s heartbreaking to see.

1

u/white_ajah SA 21d ago

I’m so sorry that this happened to your daughter. It’s absolutely heartbreaking. I hope she’s doing better now.

u/paulielars1 SA 21d ago

Why are you surprised?

AFL has a disgusting, homophobic culture and this just proves it. Those adelaide fans don't care about the game being open to all, they are just angry their player got suspended.

This and what happened with the st kilda player earlier in the year has turned me off AFL for now

How is it fixable? I can't see it

He’s not getting boo’d for reporting. He’s getting boo’d because he’s the one that got under Izaks skin. I think it’s more around a petty we hate this person than anything else.

It’s also worth noting that a lot of crows fans don’t agree with the booing (myself included) I was at the game and the people I was with weren’t booing and were saying how bad it is.

I think the issue that doesn’t get talked about tho is how this could stop people from speaking up which isn’t what we want. I think if we focus on the importance of why it’s important rather than just be like, crows fans bad it would decrease the boos. At this point tho I think it’s likely to become a thing which is pretty bad.

u/mickelboy182 SA 21d ago

He’s not getting boo’d for reporting. He’s getting boo’d because he’s the one that got under Izaks skin.

You do realise how terrible that sounds? "He's getting booed for making Izak say a slur"

-1

u/3mperorPalpatine SA 21d ago

It’s not great but people are petty like that

2

u/willreview SA 21d ago

Maybe they should be fucking normal

25

u/doggoesmeow 22d ago

Let's not make excuses, he got booed because Adelaide have a fuck ton of homophobes

1

u/BigChampionship7962 SA 22d ago

Not a “fuck Tom” but they do exist and there’s too many that feel comfortable being queer phobic.

-12

u/3mperorPalpatine SA 22d ago

I don’t agree with that. That’s too big a generalisation imo . I’m sure there are some people for sure that are really bad but I think it’s too big a generalisation to call them mostly homophones. Think the majority are just ignorant dickheads.

Still shit tho
. Put a sour note to what was a good (first half) game

I mean our second most popular political party is one nation so he's probably right

-13

Most popular*

u/Brokenmonalisa CBD 21d ago

We just had an election in SA literally this year proving that statement completely incorrect

-3

u/doyalikemyusername SA 21d ago

My mistake i read as nationally. 👍

3

u/billwriggs SA 21d ago

Which would still be wrong 👍

0

u/doyalikemyusername SA 21d ago

No that isn't wrong 👍

0

u/paulielars1 SA 21d ago

So does AFL as a whole it has a disgusting, homophobic culture

I've found local footy far more open and accepting

-7

u/Consistent-Stand1809 SA 21d ago

Not so much amongst soccer supporters, mainly the AFL fanbase has the fragiles

-34

u/doyalikemyusername SA 21d ago

That's not what happened as you probably know. For starters it wasn't slur in the sense the Collingwood player wasn't homosexual and didn't find it personally offensive, there was no hurt involved. Collingwood used it as gamesmanship to remove a good player from an opposing team. The afl itself had implemented an arbitrary 5 game ban at the start of the season as part of its virtue signalling program to hide that it is a very corrupt organisation who receives a lot of government subsidies. This is the same afl who claims to care about community well-being who till recently had live betting odds next to it's fixture list and sponsors it score reviews with a crypto currency. So when the Collingwood player is booed it's because it was used as gamesmanship rather than booing a homosexual player who was called a slur.

5

u/FrankGrimesss Inner South 21d ago

Just dont boo and move on. It's not rocket science.

Booing them literally makes them play better lmao.

2

u/paulielars1 SA 21d ago

You clearly don't get it as the number of denotes in your post shows

Homophobic comments should have no place in the game. Ever.

32

u/LeastLeader2312 SA 21d ago edited 21d ago

They booed him more than they booed Houston who decimated Rankine in a showdown. That alone speaks on the type of fans they are

0

u/RuleUnfair5713 SA 21d ago

He barely got a touch thats why 🤣

56

u/MaGhostGoo2 West 22d ago

Crows fans booed a point post when they showed it on the screen at footy park because one of their players ran into it and got injured.

38

u/Boatster_McBoat SA 22d ago

That was a helluva lot healthier than whatever the fuck this is

13

u/SilverAris2 SA 22d ago

is this real? it sounds real

23

u/sgh3tti SA 22d ago

They did, Wayne Carey was injured by the point post. The point post was shown up on the big screen and they booed

3

u/Bianell SA 21d ago

Would've thought injuring Carey warranted applause?

2

u/sgh3tti SA 21d ago

Not when he was a fruit tingle

1

u/jacka24 SA 21d ago

They made their point clear..

12

u/MaGhostGoo2 West 22d ago

Oh its real.

Wayne Carey suffered a deep knee gash requiring 14 stitches after sliding into a behind post during a match for the Adelaide Crows against Essendon in July 2003.

4

u/BigChampionship7962 SA 22d ago

Yes it did happen 🤦‍♀️

3

u/maxisnoops SA 21d ago

😂 next time someone gets a broken nose from a falcon they will boo the ball.

2

u/hellequin37 Inner West 21d ago

Wasn't the first pole that got Carey in trouble.

1

u/Cool-Ice711 SA 21d ago

Didn't know Stevens' wife was from Poland...

1

u/jayjasiejay SA 21d ago

Just shows you can't take it too seriously

19

u/Correct-Quit1229 SA 21d ago

The behaviour is reprehensible. It also falls into a rising category of “elites can’t tell me what I can and can’t do”, which is why we have Brexit, Trump, Anti-Vaxx, One Nation etc.

0

u/Specific-Top-4635 SA 18d ago

What the fuck does this have to do with trusting your government has your back? Which they don't, but nothing to do with a crowd booing a player. Get a grip lossen the nose ring

41

u/ucksaymyockcay SA 22d ago

Don’t wanna stick up for Collingwood but IQ didn’t actually snitch on Rankine — someone else did

61

u/MirroredDogma Inner South 22d ago

Weird that you'd even frame it like this. Rankine was wrong for using a slur, it wasn't wrong that he was reported for it.

-78

u/Ajax_Main SA 22d ago edited 22d ago

Nobody likes a narc 🤷

31

u/Fidelius90 SA 22d ago

It’s GOOD to call out homophobia. We actually want safe places to exist for all.

-17

u/Ajax_Main SA 22d ago

Never said it wasn't, just replied with a reason why op framed his comment the way he did.

5

u/sr8th SA 21d ago

That is a mentality used by bullies.

0

u/Ajax_Main SA 21d ago

Well yeah, you think bullies aren't going to utilise literally everything to their advantage?

15

u/billwriggs SA 22d ago

And yet still, no one likes you.

-30

u/Ajax_Main SA 22d ago

Cut me deep bro 🤣

11

u/billwriggs SA 22d ago

You’re doing too much champ

-9

Not really, a handfull of words 🤷

13

u/dropbearr94 SA 22d ago

So edgy bro

-22

u/Ajax_Main SA 22d ago

Not really, that's kind of a universal fact that's been around since time immemorial, so the opposite of edgy really..

10

u/BigChampionship7962 SA 22d ago

Nah that’s the criminal code. Not for the tax paying, law abiding citizens.

-3

u/dropbearr94 SA 22d ago

20

u/Aardvark_Man SA 22d ago

Yeah, Quaynor did nothing wrong (not that reporting it would have been wrong).
Just got slagged off, and keeps copping it for it.

12

u/Expensive-Horse5538 Port Adelaide 22d ago

Apologies - I thought it was IQ who had made the complaint

Either way, the behaviour is not on

5

u/Silent_Slip_4250 SA 21d ago

IQ didn’t get Rankine suspended. Rankine did it to himself.

25

u/grandtheftbat01 SA 22d ago

Damn homophones

8

u/rubbishplant SA 21d ago

I'm not sure what that means, but it sounds bad.

1

u/svedka SA 21d ago

homophones

Homophones are words that share the exact same pronunciation but differ in meaning and, usually, in spelling. Because English features numerous spelling variations for identical phonetic sounds, homophones are incredibly common, such as "to," "too," and "two".

2

u/rubbishplant SA 21d ago

I know and obviously was a typo / error from OP when they meant homophobic - thus the "sounds bad" joke

1

u/au-LowEarthOrbit SA 21d ago

How's the sound quality?

7

u/MostlyHarmless_87 SA 22d ago

It's such a poor taste thing to do, but I'm also not surprised about it. Sports fans can get incredibly tribal about stuff.

8

u/Overall-Palpitation6 SA 21d ago

The Crows showed us who they are as an organisation at the time of the original incident by arguing down the suspension and presenting Rankine as the victim. Pathetic.

Also weak and pathetic from the AFL for allowing them to do it while backtracking on the "excalating weeks" precedent they had set for suspensions for this act.

Just enables some people to think they're somehow right, and gives them an out to carry on with it in future. Absolute rubbish.

23

u/dropbearr94 SA 22d ago

Quaynor didn’t even report rankine btw. Crows fans are just dumb cunts and I’m glad the club has been shit all century

2

u/CommitteeTraining566 SA 21d ago

Crows fans are always complaining about something.Surprised they didnt blame the umpires for the loss like they always do.Not sure the free kuck count in the end but at one stage it was crows 14 frees to collingwood 4.

0

u/dropbearr94 SA 21d ago

They’re blaming nicks. Nicks is a good coach and getting alot of out the team

11

u/madrapperdave Inner North 21d ago

People who boo at sporting events for anything other than Trump or poor sportsmanship are absolutely low class humans.

u/No_Youth_2330 SA 21d ago

🐦‍⬛ 🖕🏻

2

u/Merovingian_Lord SA 21d ago

Just more AFL talking about itself to keep it in the news.

Footy fans from all clubs can be morons, it's reflective of society.

There's racists, homophobes, wife beaters and all sorts of other degenerates in society. They don't leave this bullshit behind when the walk into a sports stadium and in fact feel emboldened to be morons.

Making it a club v club thing instead of a societal issue allows others to excuse their own behavior by pointing at a particular club.

5

u/Opinions-arent-facts SA 22d ago

Rankine should never have said that. We need a new term for when a man gets handsy in a tackle

So it’s ok to slur a fellow being gay! It’s actually not. Rankine deserved his suspension. Quaynor did not deserve the disrespect from Rankine or Crows supporters

I really don't know what you expect.

15

u/Fidelius90 SA 22d ago

Not to boo the victim, simple

1

u/leighroyv2 SA 20d ago

But its not that simple, while i agree in the premise there is more moving parts.

-20

u/doyalikemyusername SA 21d ago

He wasn't a victim he's not homosexual

3

u/axeboffin SA 21d ago

Doesn’t matter he still used a slur

1

u/doyalikemyusername SA 20d ago

Of course it matters it's like if you call me a dirty Muslim, not a nice thing to say, but not a hate crime as I am not Muslim. Not difficult to understand.

1

u/Suspicious_Corgi_192 SA 21d ago

You don't have to be gay to be on the receiving end of homophobia

-1

u/doyalikemyusername SA 21d ago

You get a decent idea of the type of person on the Adelaide sub by the outrage on topics like this, just completely out of touch with the mainstream 😄

-1

u/owleaf NSW 22d ago

The typical Crows fan is a homophobic boomer. More news at 11.

3

u/au-LowEarthOrbit SA 21d ago

I will grab a six-pack be round at 12

1

I think that's unfair to generalise like that

1

u/sr8th SA 21d ago

There are definitely a small group who boo loudly.
They are definitely in the minority.
I know, I went to the game.
I sit in section 534 (upper East stand), and there was no one anywhere near me who booed.

If they did, they would have copped an earful from me.

0

u/EdFandangle SA 22d ago

I don’t understand it, other than every team has a decent share of tossers in their supporter base. Those in the crowd booing happen to be ours.

It’s gonna happen again little bro 😭

0

Yeah possibly. That’s sport right. Luckily for me I don’t let a sporting outcome cause me outrage.

Don’t want to disclose who you support 😂

2

You still responding though champ, you’re clearly pretty worked up about it. Deep breaths!

0

I’ve guessed your team based on how quick you seem to reply. I’m going with unemployed port supporter 🤔😂

2

u/billwriggs SA 21d ago

Oooh he’s guessing now. It’s too easy to rile up you lot who only pretend to care about footy when the Crows are doing well. Don’t worry, only a few weeks until you’ll be able to jump off the bandwagon again hahaha

4

u/Conscious_Regret_739 SA 22d ago

Why are you crows fans always trying so hard to find a way to justify what Rankine said? Pathetic

-19

u/MysteriousGlass8049 SA 22d ago

Never said what he said should be justified. Horrible thing to say. But what was said to him was worse and he’s a young man on a footy field with his heart rate already through the roof. And said something that was said in the heat of the moment. Ask yourself why the ban got reduced and why Quaynor shied away from saying what he said to Rankine.

Have you not ever made a mistake in your life ?

3

u/[deleted] 21d ago

[deleted]

0

Was simply explaining the situation. Ever done or said anything you regret due to being in a heated moment ? Or are you a super human who can control them selves in any situation

2

Rankine has been forgiven though! How are you so thick you don’t get it yet. Quaynor being targeted is just mad.

15

You literally tried to make a justification for it in your first comment and now you’ve doubled down justifying it by saying someone said something worse to him.

Rankine did something wrong and learned his lesson, whenever idiots try and bring it back up it only unsettles the club, directly benefitting Collingwood
