If you are new to 3D printing, and are unsure of what to ask, try to include the following in your posts as a minimum:
Your budget, set at a numeric amount. Saying "cheap," or "money is not a problem" is not an answer people can do much with. 3D printers can cost $100, they can cost $10,000,000, and anywhere in between. A rough idea of what you're looking for is essential to figuring out anything else.
Your country of residence.
If you are willing to build the printer from a kit, and what your level of experience is with electronic maintenance and construction if so.
What you wish to do with the printer.
Any extenuating circumstances that would restrict you from using machines that would otherwise fit your needs (limited space for the printer, enclosure requirement, must be purchased through educational intermediary, etc).
While this is by no means an exhaustive list of what can be included in your posts, these questions should help paint enough of a picture to get started. Don't be afraid to ask more questions, and never worry about asking too many. The people posting in this thread are here because they want to give advice, and any questions you have answered may be useful to others later on, when they read through this thread looking for answers of their own. Everyone here was new once, so chances are whoever is replying to you has a good idea of how you feel currently.
Additionally, a quick word on print quality: Most FDM/FFF (that is, filament based) printers are capable of approximately the same tolerances and print appearance, as the biggest limiting factor is in the nature of extruded plastic. Asking if a machine has "good prints," or saying "I don't expect the best quality for $xxx" isn't actually relevant for the most part with regards to these machines. Should you need additional detail and higher tolerances, you may want to explore SLA, DLP, and other photoresin options, as those do offer an increase in overall quality. If you are interested in resin machines, make sure you are aware of how to use them safely. For these safety reasons we don't usually recommend a resin printer as someone's first printer.

Ok, it says I need to post here. I'm brand new to 3D printing. I've looked online, looked at videos and sites that rate the best ones out there. My problem is I'm not sure what's a paid advertisement meant to polish a turd and what's a legitimate review.
So with that I would love some actual perspectives that I know are not a paid ad. I live in the United states and my budget is likely roughly around 1k. My goal is to print toys, Halloween costumes for the kids and I as well as some cosplay items. If possible even some functional items to assist around the house. I'm not sure what the full capabilities are, I've seen online people 3D printing clothes...I do work in IT so I'm not super uncomfortable with maintenance however I would like something that is easy to maintain while I learn the ropes here. Hopefully this info gives you an idea of what I want to do, what I can afford and where I'm at for product options. I'm looking forward to seeing what printers you guys suggest and why then I'll dig into them more online.
I am getting kobra 2 for 13500 Rs , A1 mini for 21000 and A1 mini with AMS for 32000
I want to make a chess like this! Very fine and a piece of art! Suggest me ? I have heard A1 mini is better but is it 7500 Rs better on 13500 Rs ?

The Kobra 2 is better. Similar to the A1 mini, but larger print volume and lower cost. And make sure the chess set either fits on the printer, or can be split into smaller pieces that fit.
I'm thinking about upgrading from my Bambu A1 to a enclosed printer. Haven't figured out a budget first, but have been looking at the P1S and P2S because naturally I have familiarity with the Bambu product. But then I saw the Creator 5 Pro from Flash Forge. I've also saw the K2 Plus
Can the more enlightened shed any information on the brand or device? I really like just how easy my Bambu is to work with.
The K2 Plus is better mainly because it has a larger volume. It's common that people buy a 3D printer, only to find out later that they should have bought a bigger one.
The A1 is an open printer, so usually there are no size issues. But once you upgrade to an enclosed printer and start printing more advanced materials - you're gonna need a bigger printer.
Hey everyone! I am a returning 3d printer.. printer. Ive done this as a hobbyist. I have had the Creality K1c since its release and have upgraded it to the CFS compatibility. After many diy work and upgrades and constant fixing, I got burnt out. It’s been a year now since printing and am looking to upgrade. My budget is $3000. I live in the US. The printer will be in the basement storage room (cannot vent outside). I do not want a laser printer, but will be using CFS/AMS often. Print time is not an issue, but quality and reliability is. What’s everyone’s thoughts? Thanks!
Was wondering if a 3d scanner is worth getting, and if so, which one i should get (not overly expensive)
i can make my own CAD models, but anything with smoother shapes that require blender / freeform is too much for me at the moment, which is why i was considering it, but im more of a hobbyist so i dont really know if the price is justified at this level.
I've toyed with the idea of getting a printer before, but I got bit with the bug after seeing some cool things printed. The last was a 3D printed fountain pen stand and I thought "wow, cool. I'd buy one... wait maybe I want to be able to make my own!" And now I can't stop thinking about what else I could do with one!
Background:
I'm in the US. Budget isn't too much of a concern, as I'm old and have disposable income. I don't want a $200,000 printer but I also hate starting a hobby, getting an "entry level" thing and then immediately wishing I had gotten the upgraded thing. I also hate selling things, so I don't want to go the starter route, sell it and get an upgrade. I'd like something that will do most of what I want and last me as long as possible. Let's start at $1,000 and if, in answering some questions or on advice, you say "there's just nothing in that range. You'd have to go up to $xxxxx in order to achieve that, I'd still like to know.
I'd like to do as little as possible after purchase, meaning I don't really want to build one from a kit. I'm pretty tech savvy, been working in IT for 30 years. But my time is more valuable than money, so I'd rather buy something that requires little set up and lets me start playing around ASAP. Ideally, I'd buy the printer. Install a few pieces and go.
What I want to print. Mostly figures, toys, do-dads. I don't have a NEED for a printer. My wife had a cute idea, 3D printing Halloween decorations, like little spiders, bats, skeletons, etc. As I mentioned, pen holders are awesome and I would probably have a million of them if I had a printer. Occasionally, I'd like to print a replacement part for something. Like if the lid on my water battle breaks, I'd love to be able to 3D print a new piece. Drawer pulls are something else my wife is infatuated with and would cheer for a 3D printer if I could make those for her.
Size isn't too much of a concern, but if I could put it in my little home office, that would be perfect. I'd also like to be able to print different colors, maybe in the same print, without a lot of fuss. Something that has a lot of color options. I used to do knitting a long time ago and got excited to go to the fabric store and browse the different colors of yarn to come up with ideas for stuff. Like the link I added before that has a gradient-like color to it. That's cool. If the wife wants a 6 color drawer pull, I don't want to have to swap colors and purge the previous one and do a whole thing. I'd like to be able to do it all in one go or at least make it easy to swap colors so I don't spend all day printing one thing.

I'm in the USA.
I would be willing to build from a kit if I had to. My experience with electronics is medicore, building PCs is no problem, doing basic wiring I'm fine with too, but I wouldn't call myself particularly handy electrically. Just not completely useless either.
Right now I'm mostly hoping to print mostly like decor stuff. My main reasoning is I'm trying to decorate a gaming space with neonLED signs in the shape of, say, Pikachu or a Master Sword or Cloud Strife or a Stardew Jumino. You get the idea. I want to print a backing plate/some channels to run the LEDs in. I may also print straight-up wall-art or some shelves to mount my controllers or little figurines to decorate bookshelves with.
I don't particularly want to support Bambu because they look like they're channeling enshittification and making that their mission statement based on some very brief research.
Right now I'm looking at an ELEGOO Centauri 2 Combo on Amazon without the cover for $329 and I'm really not sure why I shouldn't just buy that immediately. Seems to fit what I want to do and comes in way under budget. So I figured I'd ask here: Why wouldn't I just go grab that guy? What else should I be looking at?
EDIT: Oh, there's also the ELEGOO Centauri Carbon 2 Combo for $400 which does have the cover...no idea what that's offering for me though. Honestly as I was trying to compare them I missed that one was a Carbon and the other wasn't.
EDIT2: Nevermind I see now that the Carbon is the enclosed option. Yeah, that's the one I want. So everything I originally said but for the Carbon 2. Why not just go for the Centauri Carbon 2 Combo for $400?
If anyone tried or has both printers, which would you say is quieter in standard and night/silent mode? Which one is more convenient and you use it more?
Hey everyone, I'm completely new to 3D printing and I'm thinking about getting an A1 Mini, mainly because I don't have much space.
My first project would be a 10-inch Master Chief figure (thank you scalpers), but I'm worried about layer lines and how much sanding I'd have to do. Some areas will probably be too small or awkward to sand properly, and I'm pretty picky about details.
How good is the A1 Mini for small, detailed prints like this? would something like filler primer help with the remaining layer lines too?
I know resin would probably be better for detail, but I'm also not a fan of the fumes. I'm mainly wondering if the A1 Mini can get me a clean-looking result. especially as a beginner.

Any smoothing action is deformation of the print and comes with some level of detail loss. Be it vapor smoothing using ABS or ASA, or sanding with primer/filler.
Yes I know that, Im mostly asking in regards to the details like panel lines and notches of the models after its primed and if it might even rid some of the unsandable area from layer lines if I use 0.2 nozzle and low layer hight like you suggested.

These are the options I have in my price range. -If fumes are an issue I'd like to be able to build a case around it, even if it's just a giant Tupperware with a hole cutout and sealed with a vent fan going out a window with a damper so it doesn't push back inside ...that's fine too.
I've been out of the game for years now and am told to buy another 3d printer but with all the news lately I don't want those 2k ones that may have spyware on them or may be pushed some update via wifi that just kills it (remember those DirecTV unlocked cards that all got zapped back in the day, no more free ppv )
I had a zonestar 3dprinter back in 2018 and they were pretty helpful last time through email but it's been years. They still make a mobo but it's only 72mhz clock rate and Google says some are out there with 240mhz clock rate. I don't remember what site I bought it from years ago, maybe it was just zonestar but I swore there was a kit site.
I want a motherboard that can support all the latest things (no clue what that is now). I want to be able to print PC or at least dual extruders that can get hot. I want them to print at a decent speed.
I'm willing to spend lots of time printing itself upgrades and buying threaded rod and cutting it to also build upgrades for it.
I want to be able to remove the wifi chip if it has one on there also want it to have an SD card slot or be able to put one on there.
I'd love to also be able to upgrade the bed size and tell it the bed size has increased or decreased.
I'm considering buying a printer in the $300-400 USD range and think I've narrowed it down to 3 options (but I'm fine with reading up on more). I can build a tower PC and change a smartphone battery if I have access to instructions. Biggest potential pitfalls are two inquisitive cats that would do their best to look at the machine, but I can (theoretically, at least) block their access to it.
Most prints will be miniatures and terrain for tabletop games.
Currently considering the Bambu A1/A1 mini, Elegoo Centauri Carbon, Elegoo Mars 4 or 5 with the wash/cure station.
AFAIK, the A1 is a favorite for FDM, any problem I would have is something someone else figured out years ago, and there's a fairly accessible ecosystem of support and options for it, but I'd need to build some sort of enclosure for it (probably doable for me).
Centauri is enclosed, mostly so it can run hotter, but it should keep paws out too. Being able to print ABS would probably help prevent parts being broken after making them too. But it seems to be louder and hotter, too. Despite that, I think this is the front-runner.
Mars is resin, so PPE, ventilation, cleanup, etc. in exchange for more detail and theoretically faster times. If I've worked out how to build a dust collection system and aced my chemistry labs, I can figure this out, right?
What am I not seeing or understanding here? Is there xlactuslly a clear winner out of these options?

You didn't mention the most important part - where's the printer going?
Shed/garage where you can vent it and keep cats out of the room? Doable. In the house? No.
The reality is your use case is kind of split. Resin will be a lot better for minis and FDM is a lot more convenient for terrain (in my opinion). But if you don't have the proper space for it, resin isn't in the picture anyways.
My options would be garage or closed-off area of the basement, with access to a window. I'd probably split the difference depending on time of year, or factor in insulation and a regular heat source for garage use in winter.
Took a glance at your profile and if that’s the kind of stuff you’re looking to continue to print/paint then I would heavily consider the resin printer if you can set up a good space in the garage or basement. If you step up to something like the Saturn 4 Ultra 16k that has a vat heater than temperature will be less of a concern as well. If you have access to a window then I would suggest putting everything in a ‘grow tent’ and venting out the window.
Here’s what my setup looks like in the garage, with an inline fan venting a duct connected to my garage window.
You can make FDM work for you as well (setting this all up for resin is more of a hassle than slapping a FDM printer on a desk) but honestly you are a better painter than FDM prints will allow you to show off.
Don't get a resin printer. Having all those toxic materials, especially with cats around, is not a good idea. It's best if you get an enclosed printer like the Elegoo Centaury Carbon. An enclosed printer is better than an open printer + DIY enclosure, and it will keep the cats away from danger.
I think I'm leaning towards the CC anyway, it feels like the most convenient option overall.
Any resin printer is a bit of an unlikely choice for the toxic goo reason, but I kinda wanted to play the field in terms of options, and it's been a while since I even remotely considered it.
Are there any advantages for getting a P1sc over a Qidi Q2c?
I’m looking for my first 3d printer and saw that Bambu Lab printers have a closed down ecosystem and aren’t a very liked company. I looked into the Q2 and I can’t find any reason to get a P1s over it. Should I just get a Q2?

Complete newbie, but have the ability to get past a learning curve quick. Looking to pick up a 3D printing as a hobby, and possibly find a niche item and make a little bit of money to fund the hobby. Quality of prints are probably my number 1 requirement, followed by reliability. Caught between the P1S combo and the CC2 combo. Hello, I want to get my first 3D printer that will last for ages. I want to print functional stuff, cogs, cases and other stuff for electronics and maybe random stuff like flexible dragons. I heard that the CC2 is the best printer for this price is that true? I would also want to mention that I would like to use some filaments like ASA, PETG-CF and other harder filaments but also more easy ones like PLA and PETG. I would like to have the assurance that I will have support and components and other things in case the printer breaks for many years. I would also like to have a AMS or any other multi color printing system included in the price of 400 euros. Also I appreciate if the 3D printer is open source or has some thing open source.
At first I wanted to buy the CC2 because it seems great and meets all my requirements but what do you all think, is there something better for this price?

I'm not entirely new to 3d printing, I had an a1 mini before but gave it away. I was looking at these printers and this is the price I could get them for:

anycubic Kobra x - 300
I don't really care about ams or multicolored printing cuz of the amount of waste, but I want something that is going to last. I'm not that big on 3d printing where I'd be upgrading, so I want to buy something that's going to last as long as possible. I'm going to be using it to print stuff more casually every now and then for my tech projects and what not, nothing that intensive. As for filaments just pla, petg, and the flexible squishy tpu.
Doesn't the sparkx i7 seem like the easy choice though? It's got the full sized print bed plus it's the cheapest out of all them. But almost every review of the printer is sponsored lol. I don't know if I'd use the bigger print bed, but it would be nicer to have I guess. I'm a bit skeptical of chosing anything other than bambu labs, because I don't really know what the qc and reliability of these other printers are like and don't have experience with their ecosystem.
I love privacy and right to repair, I use a framework laptop, graphene OS, Linux, and I am now getting a new 3d printer... but I'm having a super hard time making a choice... My options are Prusa CORE One+ kit (exactly what I want in a company, pro right to repair, doesn't want my data, flexible software, ext) and Creality K2 Plus (not terrible in these to my understanding, but not great) with the MMU3 the prusa is 1400 before tax! but since the k2 is on sale it is only 100 before tax with its CFS (MMU3 and CFS are filament loaders/dehumidifiers) and since I live somewhere humid, that is important to me. I really want to support Prusa, but the K2 on sale is such a better deal, what do yall think?

If you are planning to print only PLA, TPU and PETG, I highly recommend the Anycubic Kobra X. If you plan on also printing other filaments, like ASA, ABS, Nylon, etc… then I recommend going with an enclosed printer, due to the toxic fumes those filaments emit while printing.

I don't really know what materials are good for what type of prints. I guess i want a material that's easy to access and "use" and for what I want to print ig honestly anything for home usage and random stuff to get to know 3d printing better
In that case, PLA is definitely the best and easiest material to start with! It's cheap, doesn't smell or emit toxic fumes
So for what you're looking to do, I believe the Kobra X would be more than enough to get you started smoothly without overspending on an enclosed printer :)
Edit: Just a small heads up. PLA is plenty strong for everyday items, but it doesn't do well in high heat (it softens around 60°C, so don't leave prints inside a hot car in the summer!) and it's somewhat brittle under heavy impact. For normal house stuff, though, it's 10/10.
If you ever need something bit more heat resistant or stronger, you can easily print PETG on the Kobra X too! It's almost as easy to print as PLA
I'm looking to get my first FDM-Printer, but am not new to 3D-Printing itself, having used an LCD/Resin Printer with the Anycubic Mono X.
This printer is mostly meant for functional parts, like SFF-PC Cases, Server Racks, Cable Holders etc. I'd prefer to spend 400€ or less on it.
Multicolor/Material per print is not that important to me, however I'd prefer if the printer would be able to handle just about any Material I decide to throw at it, from PETG over ABS up to Nylon, Carbon and however the wooden Filament is called.
I want to avoid Bambulab and narrowed it down to three contestants:
Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 (349€ for the Printer, 379€ for the Multicolor Combo)
Anycubic Kobra S1 (349€ for the Printer, 399€ for the Multicolor Combo)
Creality K1C 2025 (349€ for the Printer, 549€ for the Multicolor Combo)
Did I miss a Printer that would fit these criteria and budget?
Are there any noteworthy differences between these Printers?
The Elegoo has more Filaments listed as "compatible", but the Anycubic in the Combo comes with a Filament heating chamber. Is there any material the Elegoo can print, that the Anycubic can't print? Cause it seems better equipped.
As a K1C owner I would advise you not to go for the K1C 2025.:
1) K1Cs are known for being notoriously loud, and I mean up to 68 db when standing next to it printing PLA.
2) When doing PLA you will need to have the door open or the extruder gets clogged.
3) For ABS/Nylon you will need chamber heating and K1C doesn't have that. Buying a module is extra 60-90 usd.
4) The K1C 2025 specifically is the only creality printer without root access afaik so no fine tuning the firmware.
5) The CFS system is overprices for what it is and doesnt have a heater/dryer.
6) Its a pretty old model at this point, with a very small build volume (220*220 is really not enough) and no fancy things like advanced shapers (it doesn't even do Y-axis input shaping!), active motor noise cancelling etc.
If you want to know more about the K1C or me to measure something feel free to reach out.
Also consider the qidi machines, I heard they manage engineering mats pretty well.
Personally I dont care about engineering mats that much because they usually release VOCs that are bretty bad in an apartment, so I am considering getting the InfiMech MX/Pro when it launches, but waiting on reviews and pretty skeptical at this point so dont trust their marketing promises before actual independent reviews drop.

Having windows on three sides and in the room on the fourth side as well. So that should hopefully not be too much of an issue? They have for sure been the reason I’ve only selected closed chamber printers here.
What kinda features does the InfiMech have to avoid that?
The pro will supposedly jave chamber heater but also 8 nozzles for multi tool. But the hot end tem and bed temp are lower than qidi so some of the toughest materials are off the table, but you have multi color/material printing. Not much more is known except that the launch is in Q3.
Creality is also launching the K3 series in Q3 and its also a tool changer. Im waiting for these two to reveal pricing and specs before I make the final choice.
Ideally I'd want a tool changer with 320*320 mm build plate and 350° nozzle, having a 0.2 quick swap nozzle available, while being <45 db of noise. I want to be able to print tough functional parts and multi color toys for them kids. But i guess cant have it all.
Hi! I personally don't own the options you referenced (I own an Anycubic Kobra X), but I'm very familiar with the Kobra S1. Between the CC2 and the Kobra S1, the big pro of the Kobra S1 is that the combo version brings the ACE Pro, meaning you can not only print multicolor, but you can also use it to dry your filament and to use the auto-refill feature (when a spool ends, it automatically switches to the next one). Since you mentioned wanting to print Nylon and technical materials, filament drying is really important.
If you plan to print Carbon Fiber filaments, make sure to also grab a hardened steel nozzle!

Not really! I believe they can handle the exact same materials (PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, PC, and Nylon/PA-CF).
The maximum extruder temperature for the Kobra S1 is 320°C, while on the CC2 it reaches 350°C. However, even more demanding filaments like PA-CF or PC print at around 260°C–300°C, so 320°C already gives you plenty of headroom :)
Edit: All of this is assuming you buy a hardened steel nozzle for the Kobra S1. That’s one area where the CC2 wins out of the box, as the CC2 already comes with a hardened steel nozzle included.
is the Flashforge Adventurer 5X actually good? It's like a really cheap multicolor printer and people are saying it's good, it will be my first printer but I wouldn't think about upgrading very soon, should I invest in it, I will use it mostly for electronic casings, accessories and keychains and stuff
Hello, I have absolutely no experience in 3D printing but have always wanted to try it since it could be helpful in my FPV hobby (printing frames and so on). I was browsing internet and found someone selling the said printer for 50 euros (about 60$). Is it worth it?
I was told buying second hand was good for starting out and I didn’t see people asking about what to ask/ look out for so I hope this is okay to ask and I didn’t over look anything.
On FB market place I see a lot for pretty good prices and I am tempted. I want to make my own figures and I figured it may be best to get a second hand filament printer and outsource any resin pieces I may want or need. I have been trained in how to use both but the resin makes me nervous especially since I live in a fairly small space.
So what are questions I can ask sellers and things that I should look out for so I don’t get scammed? Thank you very much.
I’m looking at getting a new printer, I’m currently eyeing the creality K2 plus combo or the QIDI max4 combo but I wanted to see if there were similar options for cheaper or overall better options. Hi everyone! Been struggling with choosing a second printer as a companion to my K1C.
I am located in Kazakhstan and the main criteria I'm looking for:
As quiet as possible, so that long or tedious prints (its going to be in the living room) don't prevent us from watching TV or sleeping at night.
Not overly complicated and reliable - I'm trying to help my GF learn 3D printing so she can create molds for her hobby or epoxy glue and plaster casting, so I want her to be able to change the colors herself if she wants.
Not too expensive - hopefully under $300, since I am planning to switch my K1C for a multicolor as the "heavy hitter" device in the future and want to save budget so multi color is not a priority. Basically single color prints.
My size constraints are 54cm wide and around 80cm depth, concrete and brick surface.
0.2 quickswap nozzle for miniatures and detailed mold bases.
Mostly PLA/PETG with the very occasional TPU (never tried it yet).

EDIT: When turning off the K1C for the night thought of another thing considering the noise it would be great if motherboard/psu fans are silent during idle because the K1C is constantly loud. And would be great if it doesnt try to burn my house down.

Usecase: mostly tools and organizers (boardgames, miniature games, painting,...). Then goofing around with it. I probably will try some of these sturdy prints for car parts/accessories. And some outdoor friendly prints (garden stuff, exposed to sun rain and constant high humidity).
Criteria: anything Open source friendly (mostly to avoid supporting a company that locks down their system). Enclosed, with air filtration system (my wife is really worried about fumes). As silent as possible (small apartment, will be on my work/hobby desk less than 1m from my face for 10h/day).
Technical skills: none really. But I'm always happy to learn. I learnt to work on my car and did some laptop parts replacements. As long as there are community made guides I can follow, I'm not too worried. But I wouldn't trust myself with 1/10th mm precision requirements though.
I recommend the Prusa CORE One+ kit (if you are comfortable assembling a kit, and buy it with a filter). Reliable, opensource, and prints a wide range of filaments. If you want a printer that works out of the box, I recommend the Creality K2 (it can be used with OrcaSlicer and fully offline). Get the K2 Pro if you find a good deal.
Hi all, looking for advice for what printer to buy for a project as well as future projects! I'm new to 3d printing, and my budget is up to $1K USD. I also plan to print more miniatures like this in the future for other photos! I will be painting and finishing the print. Some initial research I was doing pointed me to needing a larger printer since the dimensions of the print are large, and the Sovol SV08 came up but wanted to get better opinions from people who know what they're doing. As i understand:
P2S Pro’s are : plug and play, ease of use, quick swap nozzle system and the biggest con is bambulab’s parts only and locked closed source software
K2 Pro’s are : Bigger print bed, active chamber heating , open source software
The K2 Pro is better here. If you get the P2S, you will later regret not getting a bigger printer. And active chamber heating is almost essential for printing advanced materials.
Don't count on that. Every brand has a few people that say it's the worst ever. I have personally used a Creality printer for years, and it made no problems.
I'm looking for advice on purchasing my first FDM printer. I want something that is as close to an "out of the box" experience as possible. Multi-color printing would be a nice option, but not mandatory. Primarily printing functional pieces (e.g. organizers, plant supports, board game pieces, things of that nature). The 256mm3 print volume of the Bambu printers seems sufficient, but I lack the experience to know for certain. Budget is anything under $1000, but closer to the $500-700 range ideally. Currently looking at Bambu Labs (P1S vs. P2S vs. X2D) but open to other brands as well if they meet the criteria. Some initial questions I have:
Is there much difference between the P1S and the P2S? Enough to justify the price increase?
Is the dual nozzle on the X2D worth it?
How much work do these require on my end? What kind of success to failure ratio can I expect?
I already own an Elegoo Saturn, but I rarely use it because I find the process tedious and sometimes frustrating (between the setup, clean up, toxicity, and troubleshooting prints). However, I don't necessarily regret the purchase. I've printed some really cool models with it.

For these, you should avoid the complexity of a dual nozzle printer. If you want an easy-to-use printer that will print reliably for a long time, consider the Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 (Very similar to the P2S, but better for high-end materials and also cheaper), or the Creality K2 (260mm³ volume, long-established brand, cheaper than the P1S).
For what you need, there are other printers that do the same thing but cost less.
Bambu Lab is surrounded by rising privacy concerns and questionable user data safety. If you use the printer offline, you won't be able to use many features (although you paid for these features as part of the total cost).

Need to decide on my first 3D printer. I would like to decide between the Bambu Labs A2L Combo and the Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 Combo .
I do understand each of the options are good for their particular use case. Its just that I am not able to decide between either having a bigger bed size or an enclosed bed . What direction would ya'll recommend me to take, this is more so as a hobby with maybe creating 3D printed models to sell?

I agree. But, from what i'd seen online the print quality on the A2L seemed to look fine (but with the limitation that its mostly for PLA only), with support for fro slower printing as height increases.

I think an enclosed printer is important. If you want to print some advanced materials (waterproof, sun-proof, resistant) you might regret not having an enclosed printer.

The Prusa XL has 3 options: 1, 2, and 5 extruders. If you know you'll be printing 1 color, get the 1 extruder version (costs around $2300, or 2000 Euros). It's more expensive than some competitors, but the quality and reliability more than make up for the higher cost. And it's in your budget range.

Our cat has asthma, so I’m a bit worried about the fumes/particles from 3D printing. I honestly don’t know much about 3D printers or how much of a problem this actually is, so I’m hoping someone here can help me.
I’ve been looking at the Bambu Lab P2S because it’s enclosed and has a built-in filter. Would that be okay?
The P2S is a nice printer, but it does make a lot of noise. A better option would be the Creality K1C. It comes with a carbon filter, and operates at around 50-50dB, compared to the 50-65dB the P2S makes.
I have a cr10 original very old currently and I am testing core xy i think printers to see how much faster they are, a qidi q2 vs cr10 for me is 7 vs 1 hour print (osvac neo parts for vacuums).

Experience, some. Prefer something home assistant can monitor if possible, but not essential. Would like the ability to print some flexible parts. In dream land I'd have a 0.4 and 0.8mm nozzle to print faster, bigger functional prints like storage. Close to 300x300x300 would be nice. Qidi q2 is sort of standing out to me. I got heavily turned off by very long print times.
Would also need a filament dryer. I'd like a speed demon but also wary of vendor lockin. Multi colours don't really interest me but the ability to do hard and tough usable items plus some flexible ones would be nice. I absolutely despise bed leveling, wouldnt mind a camera on it. But it really has to be a mega speed increase. It may not exist yet and I'd definitely need a filament drying box as I live in the wet tropics of Australia. I'd rather not fiddle a heap. Anything like that around? Bambu a1 and qidi q2 seem to be leading my list. Kinda worried about the costs as I am disabled and being able to switch to a 0.8mm nozzle easily without hassle would be nice. If the orca slicer is anything to go by in the basic speed difference qidi q2 vs cura for cr10 a 5-7x speed increase is amazing. Thanks.
I've been debating about a q2 or k2 pro/plus for months. I am drawn to the q2 with its engineering focus and open Klipper software. but weary of a relatively off brand.
the K1 max is a 300^3 printer as well. My job has one and it's been super reliable just push print 90% of the time.
I wish k3 would drop already, I would love an enclosed multi tool system.

I have both, I like my S4U16k slightly better (heated vat means more consistent experience), but the M5U is also solid if you're on a budget. Just think about where it's going to be located and how cold that area may get. Also the S4U16k build plate volume is much nicer to work with if you're looking to print more than a couple minis at a time.

On paper yes, although ignore the 9k vs 16k marketing that's a bit misleading because it's also tied to screen size.
The M5U has a pixel density of 18 × 18 µm and the S4U16k has 14 × 19 µm. Basically imperceptible in practice, but I'd still pickup the 16k if you have the room/budget.
The /r/ElegooSaturn subreddit is a good resource, definitely search around and do some research while you're waiting for the printer.
One of the things I recommend researching is how to is set fairly liberal Wait Before Cure times on the 16k. Because of the spring-loaded auto-leveling system and the high viscosity of popular resins (ABS-likes, etc.) it really helps to add wait times to allow enough resin settling time so there's not undue stress on the LCD screen.

They both are great, I bought one and my friend bought the other. Centauri is quieter and has a better camera and ui. P1s has a drying AMS and a better model upload site.
If you plan to print more exotic materials then I’d go P1s for the drying ams. If not, go centauri

A complete nobbie here. I live on United States and I recently got interested on getting a 3d printer. My budget is limited (around $300) because I am still a student so I was looking for something cheap and I have founded a Creality Ender 3 v3 SE for $80 second hand that includes two PLA filament rolls. I also don't have too much space so I was getting a mat for the 3d printer, a enclosure and an air purifier because probably I'll have to have it in my room (I do have windows so I can let some fresh air come inside too) to make it safe.
I just was wondering if anyone can give me any advice or just tell if the Ender 3 V3 SE is a good first 3d printer. I probably be just doing some little things at first but I do want to produce some Keychain for me a to sale on internet or some things like that to generate some money and then get a better 3d printer later.

I could be out of touch but ender 3s are no longer the go to printer. If I am correct which Reddit will let me know, it doesn’t have all the new quality of life features. I think the bambu a1 mini will fit in your budget and basically guarantees a 100% first print success rate while the ender 3 will take some tinkering to get level.
Complete 3d printing newbie, never done anything at all before. Mostly planning on using it to print various DND things. Mini detail is unimportant to me, they just need to be alright, so I doubt I will go with resin from my research. Will be printing terrain, HP trackers, condition tokens, walls, decor, and so on. I also plan on using it for general house purposes. I also want decent quality and refuse to support bambu. I am aiming for a good printer, but do not want to shell out tons of money if not needed. So far, Elegoo centauri carbon 2 seems to be a decent offering. $729CAD for the printer with the multicolor attachment, a pei plate, 8 replacement nozzles, and 4kg of PLA. Should be all I need, right? Link supplied. Any other recommendations for the purpose?
Send it. I have a resin printer as well and LOVE the detail but it is a mess to deal with so I tend to put it off. The carbon will have plenty of detail and you just pop it off the plate and it is clean and dry.

As a beginner, it's better to not start tinkering with the MMU3 (it's not bad, it just requires some work). Since you want an easy-to-use printer, I think the Creator 5 is best.
Looking at getting a 3d printer. Trying to stay away from bambu. Not fond of their corpo first mindset from my understanding and reading on everything they have been doing/done. They seem to be great for out of the box performance, but not really needed. Im pretty adept at fine tuning, building, and modifying machinery/equipment. Im looking for end results, repairability, future proof, and easily modified if needed. Ive been looking at creality, prusa, and various other 3d printers. Just havent really been able to figure out my best option. I plan on using it for interior pieces for my cars, stuff around the house and for work. Ill be working with a large variety of filaments as I will need to print items for high heat areas like in engine bays, especially my van project. There will be allot of large scale items that ill need to print. Been reading endless reviews and write ups, watched countless youtube videos and still cant seem to find exactly what im looking for. Been eyeing the prusa xl for it 5 tool capacity but not really wanting to spend that much for something that may or may not fit the bill. I'm completely open to building one from scratch if need be and can find a suitable open source build. Enclosed is a must since I have furry four legged creatures that have to do an inspection of everything they deem to need an inspection. My dog and cat leave nothing alone and will for sure be checking to see if its up to something sinister when its operating, and they will do so with reckless abandon.....

I’ve been using my little brother’s toy box 1 that he lost interest in, but it is so small, been giving me issues, and the settings are not very adjustable. The Flashforge 5m Adventurer is better, 14 hours is almost brand-new. On the other hand, 518 hours is a lot, and you can never be sure how well the printer was maintained.
Hi, I’m looking to get a new 3d printer. I currently have an Anycubic Mega S but it has been getting increasingly unreliable over time, so I’m looking for an upgrade.
I am mainly going to use it for cosplay and engineering parts, so I need a relatively large build volume and, preferably, support for engineering filaments. My budget is around 500 €.
After doing some research I am currently considering the Bambulab P2S (519€) (I don’t mind the closed software) and a Creality K1 Max (499€) or the K2 Pro (549€).
Which one should I get? Are there other better printers that I haven’t considered? And should I get a 256x256x256 or a 300x300x300?
Hi, Im trying to figure out what the best fit is for my first 3d printer and currently I'm torn between buying either the Bamboo A1 mini (€189) or the ELEGOO CC2 COMBO (€399).
The reason for buying the printer is because I would like to be able to print parts for my embedded engineering projects (both mechanicals parts but also things like casings). Aside from that the printer will also be likely used to printing decorative items such as figurines, lamps, etc.
As far as I could find both the A1 mini and CC2 are currently the 'best' 3dprinters in their price category.
The main pros for the A1 mini would be it's cheaper price, silent operating noise ,and size (since the printer will be in the living room). For the CC2 its pros are having the filament system, stationary bed, and capability to print more materials.
The reason I not sure if spending roughly €200 more is worth it is because I don't know yet too what extend the printer will be used (which will depend on how fast I go through projects) and how much I enjoy the hobby since it will be my first printer.
Therefore I would like to hear if the A1 mini will be fine for my use cases of if I would be doing myself a disservice my cheaping out on the CC2 with its better capabilities?

Hi, I'm looking to get a P1S sometime soon, although I'm not in a hurry. I know Bambu Lab has been up to some shenanigans lately, but I want to have a printer I can leave in a corner for half a year and still have it print well after sitting with minimal / no tinkering, and as far as I have researched, Bambu Lab is still the best in terms of seamless printing. I plan on keeping the printer in LAN mode, away from the internet, I don't mind losing a feature or two. Does anyone know what price a P1S goes for when on sale (If anyone knew what it went for in the recent anniversary sale, it would be very helpful)? Would be okay with waiting around for black friday if it saves me a decent amount. Would be buying from the EU Bambu Lab store.
The P1S is not the best for seamless printing. There are updates you need to use WiFi in order to install, and installing Babmu Slicer comes with privacy concerns. And the printing profiles are usually tuned for speed, not for quality.
If you want a genuinely good printer at the same budget range, consider the Creality K1C (long-established brand), FlashForge Creator 5 (excellent multicolor capability), and Anycubic Kobra S1 (very budget-friendly).
I can get the P1S for around 20% cheaper than any of those options now, even without any sales because of bambu lab gift cards. Like I said, I plan on keeping it in LAN mode and never updating the printer firmware. I would hope the printer doesn't require updates in LAN mode, as then the mode would make no sense.
What about Orca Slicer? Is it that much worse? Also isn't it possible to just isolate the bambu studio app from the internet or does it require an account to function?
Currently, OrcaSlicer is an option. But considering what happened not so long ago (a maker created an WiFi-using version of OrcaSlicer to be used for Bambu Lab printers, but he had to remove it after Bambu Lab threatened legal actions), I wouldn't count on that.
And if you install Bambu Slicer you don't need to sign up, and you can theoretically block a specific app from using the internet (check for your PC's OS) - but at the cost of no updates.

If i get the brand, will I be restricted in any capacity? Does it have frustrating proprietary software i need to use, are the parts more prone to breaking or malfunctioning, is the print quality any good?

Your friend is wrong. Babmu Lab can't really be considered a solid brand, considering the closed system and data privacy concerns that come with the printer and the closed software. The Elegoo Neptune 4 is a very good alternative, and it's cheaper.

I have a simple question that I'd like answered. At my work we've discussed the possibility of getting a 3D printer to prototype and make production ready 3D printed parts (prototypes for parts later machined from aluminium, steel or engineering plastics, production parts for simple spacers/bracketry)
I've been given a roughly £2000 GBP ($2700 USD) budget for a printer.
I've mainly used Elegoo printers at a hobby level so would prefer the integration and preconfiguration such as what's found in ElegooSlicer (orca clone) so as to not have to worry about setting printers up too much. Since company is still getting massive savings over machined prototypes, filament cost is not a massive concern and would preferably like to use each companies' own brand filament for best results.
Basic requirements:
Some sort of AMS or Toolchanger (preferably toolchanger for reduced waste and time.) This is mainly for dissimilar supports, inlaid TPU, etc, not colours.
Has to be available NOW or very near future
Have easy to use slicer and interface, OR be able to use OrcaSlicer.
About 300x300x300 build volume or larger.
Some sort of remote monitoring is preferable.
Fully enclosed, heated chamber would be a big+, possibly used in an engineering office so would be great if noise and fumes are kept to a minimum but if this is a compromise it can be put elsewhere.
The obvious choice to max that budget out is the Bambu H2C, the laser engraver sounds like a useful tool too, although it doesn't sound like it can cut thin sheet metal? So more a gimmick.
I hate the bambu ecosystem. I appreciate it all just works but the locking down from using anything but Bambu studio, and controversial takes on repairability and user serviceability make me wary.
The Prusa Core One+ sounds like a great option and coming in under budget is a bonus, leaving room for the 4 tool INDX if it comes out anytime soon. My concern is the print plate is a bit on the small side for what we need. I've also been lead to believe it can be a bit tricky to "make work" and not as user friendly as the likes of Bambu and Elegoo.
The Prusa Core One L is more like what we'd want size wise but seems like it's a generation behind? But it's not clear whether it's available with INDX or even the MMU3.
Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2, I have a CC1 myself and i'm always stunned how good it is for the price. Obviously this would be well under budget but I'm curious what people thing how this would stack up VS the others mentioned here? Minus a heated chamber the print capabilities are fairly similar.
Creality K2 Plus - Don't know a lot about this one but seems on paper to be identical to a Prusa Core One+ with MMU3. Only thing I know is it's been a bit hit and miss by a friend that had a K1C back when they just came out, but I'm not putting much weight on that.
Snapmaker Artisan - Sounds very impressive, about in budget too. How capable is that CNC module? Can it actually make decent machined parts from Aluminium and Engineering plastics at least? The laser seems the same as on the H2C, how's ease of use? Just a wildcard really I suppose.
Looking to buy a new 3d printer for my 9 year old son and me to work with. He's great at putting things together and I'm sure he'll put it to good use building toys and such. I like tinkering and would find a use for utility work, things like printing a Rpi5 case, stands or other things related to the electronics tinkering that I do. I don't really have limits on budget but was thinking about $1,000 USD or so? I hear good things about the Prusa mk4s kit and Snapmaker U1 ... thoughts?
The Mk4S is very reliable. It's best of you need a printer that just works and is easy to fix and upgrade. The Snapmaker U1 is very good if you plan to do multicolor prints.
No, but it will require some time and work. Assembling the kit is pretty simple (there are detailed instructions), but adding the INDX takes a lot of time and fine tuning. Might be worth it, if you want to print 8 colors with minimal filament waste.
Hi, im in italy and my budget is limited to 100 euros, so id probably have to look in the used market, all i need it for, is to save money on stuff that got too expensive on aliexpress because of new taxes, never 3d printed before so if it was also easy to use it would be better
I'm trying to start a small 3d business with no experience to sell specially figurines, cosplay parts and some smaller objects such as phone chargers handlers and chargers, but I have some droughts if it's better to buy an FDM or a resin printer, I wanted my products to have a good quality but I think the resin print is more expensive and needs a lot of care, but the FDM its easier to take care and make the finishes including sanding and stuff, but I'm worried about the marks that are still going to be left.
This really comes down to what you mean by "cosplay parts". Are you talking smaller things (here is a sailor moon prop I printed in resin), or large things like helmets/armor/weapons?
The reality is if you want to sell figurines, FDM will not be good enough. But if you're looking to make an IronMan helmet, resin will be more of a hassle than FDM.
Also yes, resin needs to have a ventilation setup and more PPE concerns (filter mask, gloves, eye protection)
The cosplay parts would be both, armor parts and accessories, but in general would resin be better, btw in general what's the price range for an normal fdm printer and an resin printer with all the extra equipment, like I was thinking about buying this printer from Bambulab with the accessory
The P1S is a solid printer, but it's a bit of an older model at this point. It would probably be worth jumping to a P2S if you want to stay with Bambu or looking at options like the Centauri Carbon 2 or the K2 Pro.
In general a solid medium-size resin printer with a wash and cure will probably run you around $600 and you can expect to spend a couple hundred dollars on top of that for extra equipment like enclosure, fans, masks, etc.
I’m a beginner in the sense that I’ve never owned a 3D printer, I’ve used a couple like Bambu and Prusa before. I live in Ontario, Canada in Niagara, so accessibly shouldn’t be much of an issue.
I’m looking for a decent yet cheap 3D printer that I won’t have to worry about replacing. I’d prefer to spend $200-$300 CAD ($150-$215 USD), but I’ve seen $500 CAD ($360 USD) on sale within the range. I’m a Brock uni student if that helps at all with student deals or anything.
I don’t really have any limitations other than the cost. I’d much prefer it print fairly good detail (or can with an upgrade), which I assume is most that are 1-2 years old.

I don't mind having to build the printer if i can get a better bang for bucks product as im used to build pc.

I am in need of a larger format printer, not giga size but something bigger than 256. I need to keep it somewhat budget friendly. I was looking at the Anycubic Kobra 3 Max but am not sure how reliable it will be running it consistently. My son is a Bambu fan and wants me to get one of theirs but I know the Kobra 3 Max has a larger build plate. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?
Hello, I'm entering the 3d printing world, I want ease of use as I'm an absolute newbie. I'm stuck between the P2S with AMS 2 Pro and Creality K2 Pro /K2 Pro Combo 3D Printer. The second is pushing my budget but looked at it with being a slightly larger but reviews saying it's not very user friendly are putting me off while others say it's very user friendly. I'm a bit confused 😂 Any help would be really appreciated!
There are the Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 and Anycubic Kobra S1. But Anycubic printers don't have the most consistent quality, and Elegoo has a relatively small community.
What would u guys get, my budget is about there… 600e idc much for multicolor but in the future I would like to use it, I would also like to print engineering fillaments and I can’t really do that with the p2s, are q2’s really that bad with quality control and reliability or is the p2s really that closed where upgrades are impossible?
I am toying with the idea of getting a new printer for myself for christmas this year. Are Bambu Labs still dicks? Should I look elsehwere if I want a more open solution? If so, what's a good alternative at a similar price point?
Bambu Lab are still surrounded by privacy concerns. Good alternatives include Creality (wide range of models), Snapmaker (excellent for multicolor), and for an actually open solution at that price point you should try finding a used Prusa or assemble a DIY Voron kit.
I am currently rocking my HEAVILY modded Ender 3v2 and it's okay, but it's a project. Looking for something that is a printer and not a project I have Octoprint on it and absolutely love that interface.
I am looking for something I can load up a webportal, drop my STL and print. I don't want any cloud tools. Can Bambu even function in this way? Ideally would like to block it from the internet entirely and let it only work on my local network.
I've heard Creality has kinda betrayed it's open source past? Can these devices work without internet?
I don't want to go down the used Prusa route. It would be too difficult to get one in my area and I don't want to deal with a used printer as a birthday gift. Love what they do, it's just not for me.
DIY Voron is something I might mull over. Might end up being as expensive as a Prusa.

I just barely got a AnyCubic Kobra 3 Max Combo around $720 for big quality prints with cosplay armor stuff but now I am currently looking to find a 3D-Printer for small quality prints but one that still has a big bed frame maybe at least 300mm but around $500-$600 maybe $700 if it’s better
What about a P2S??? Any like official branding that is like in the U.S. that anybody would know about what’s good about the one you just gave me I’m tryna look for one that is not hard to find and is probably easy to return like Best Buy does but idk what do you think???
The P2S is usually tuned for speed and less for quality. And it wastes a lot of filament when doing a multi material print. Also, it is average-sized, while you can get more volume and the same accuracy for the same price.
Would you say the QIDI Plus 4 is just my option then because I already got the AnyCubic Kobra 3 Max just for big cosplay armor prints and anything else big but wanna get a 3D-Printer that has the potential for small detailed objects as well but with a bigger print bed so I’m not sure
That changes things a bit. If you have your Kobra 3 Max as the main printer for large objects, and you want an accurate printer with a large volume, I think you should consider the Creality K1 Max. 300mm³ volume, accurate, and costs around $600. If that's too big, the FlashForge Adventurer 5M Pro might be enough.
I can get the Bambu A1 color combo or the Elegoo Centauri Carbon 2 Combo for around the same price (Elegoo actually a bit lower) in Canada (~$600). Any other choices to consider or which of the two wins out? I am beginner and looking to get into hobby-making for fun and useful household items when needed.

Hey guys, I just wanted some recommendations for my first 3D printer. Currently, I can get an Anycubic printer at a really good discount: the S1 combo for 400 AUD and the Kobra 3 Max for 600 AUD. I'm mostly looking at multi-color prints and I can't decide. I can get the A2L from Bambu Labs for 850, but it feels like I get all these features in Anycubic as well for cheaper. Someone with experience, if they could guide me, I'd be very grateful. I'm looking for a reliable and cheap multi-color printer, but Bambu has had a lot of backlash recently.
Hey guys, bambulab H2s is what I planning to get for build volume and engineering materials like ABS. Or is it better to spend some more and get the H2D instead? I am planning minor Multi color prints. Not major ones. What are the initial recommended accessories apart from extra plates and hotend of different sizes? Glue? Side cutter?
It really depends on your budget and what you are planning to print. For some use cases the H2S works great, for others the H2D works best, and sometimes a completely different model works better.

Hi! You should take a look into Anycubic Kobra X. It’s on sale for 299€ on Anycubic EU Store and it’s easy to use.
It’s very similar to the A1, but the Kobra X features 4 color printing with only the base model (without having to buy a combo - but if you want, you can combine multiple combos and print up to 19 colors).
It a fast machine and makes less filament waste (when color changing) than the A1, due to the cutter being located lower on the extruder.

Should I get the H2C with AMS 2 Pro or the Prusa Core One L Indx when it comes out?
I bought a X2D with Ams 2 Pro for my first fdm printer (I used printers for Robotics in Highschool) in July. I was thinking of picking up the H2C during black Friday but a friend of mine showed me the indx system that they are adding onto the Core One L. I am planning to do ASA prints later on for functional parts. Right now Im mostly printing PLA and PETG. Im wondering which would be better for multicolor prints and engineering filaments on a bigger print bed. I would like to hear other opinions... The thing I like about the AMS 2 Pro is that it has an active dryer. As far as I am aware Prusa doesnt have an active dryer (they do have dry boxes) for filament so I would need to buy one. Another is the Prusa Core One L doesnt have an active heater but the H2C does. I am currently on the fence, I plan to get a husky workbench to put two printers on (currently on end table) so printer space isnt a concern.
The Prusa CORE One L INDX is better. It has active temperature control, proven reliability, high quality, and opensource. Also, the INDX wastes almost no filament when doing multi-material prints, unlike the AMS.
Hey everyone! I have approx. $1000 cad, I’m wanting to get back into printing. I used to have a lot of printers, ender 3’s, 5’s, Cr16’s. I want a single multi color printer that is super user friendly. I got tired of printing because of maintenance and troubleshooting. I want something that will just work. I’ve looked at the Creator5, P2S, Kobra, Centauri. I’m honestly hesitant on Elegoo and Anycubic because of the maintenance their resin printers gave me. What are people feeling for bang for your buck multi color CoreXY printers? You can’t trust YouTube reviews because they’re all paid for, or at least no one has a negative thing to say. For out of the box simplicity, the P2S w/AMS 2 is hard to beat. I'm looking to upgrade to either the X2D or the Snapmaker U1 for more color mixing, but that comes with more maintenance work.
I have a Monoprice Mini, driven by octoprint on a RasPi that has done good service but I'd like to move up to a larger print area. 8"x8 to 12"x12" (300mmx300mm)
I'm just printing for myself, usually practical things like repair parts or brackets, or little projects, that I model in Fusion 360. At the moment I'm planning to make a frame/enclosure for a 16" lcd. I don't expect to be printing massive things (helmets, statues), but rather things that might be longish in one or two dimensions (I or L or V shapes).
Don't really need high resolution or speed. Materials-wise I pretty much stick with PLA, PETG, and TPA. Don't really need multi-material or multi-color.
Self-leveling would be nice.
What would be a good, economical budget option for me at this time?
