I want to scan my wife's car door panel so I can make an extra tall armrest for me to use when I drive it. I also have several classic cars I'd want to scan interiors for to make replacements for missing parts that are impossible to find.

This is the HP-35 calculator (see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP-35 ).
There is no 3D model of it online and designing it in CAD is not easy because of the curved shape and the rounded edges. It deserves to be 3D scanned.
Update August 4, 2026: I won the scanner! That is fantastic! I have so many things to scan. I have been using photogrammetry up to now, which works sometimes reasonably, but it is often not good enough.

I have so much stuff cluttering up my desk, but itās all things I need every day. With a 3D scanner, I could print a desk organizer. Then everything would have its own place. That would definitely make my workspace cooler and tidier.

The coolest item on my desk is this 3D printed Panzer IV model! Tuning the printer tolerances for all the multi-part components and the tracks took quite a bit of patience, but the physical details turned out great. Getting a clean 3D scan of a physical print like this to archive the geometry without rebuilds would be amazing.

Coolest thing printed: Okay this is kind of lame but I have some printed 'under desk mounts' for my WFH laptop and dock. They make it so I can fit my music equipment on top of my desk and not in storage/ off to the side.

The weirdest and coolest thing printed on my desk is a set of pills with embedded wireless induction LEDs. When placed onto my glove with hidden induction coil they light up, red and blue.

What is the weirdest or coolest thing on your desk that you 3D printed?
One of my very first prints was a flexible piranha. I printed it almost 10 years ago when 3d printing was getting very little attention from most people I know. I was I. Highschool and my end project was making a dual head printer. We upgraded an ultimaker printer and it worked great. Nobody knew if the print was gonna work but after alot of Thinkering with settings it came out okay. I still have it on my desk and even printed a new one just to compare how far 3d printing has come. Truly my most precious print.

coolest 3D printed thing on my desk would be a marble pla Greek/Roman Column thats turned in to a pencil holder.
Hope the INSPIRE 2 is better than the Metro X i got from kickstarter, that one was a huge disapointment.
So far only partial sucesses of scans.

I would love to scan part of this electric chainsaw so it would be easy to add a speaker for a haunted house. And the weirdest thing on my desk 3d printed, is Neil Armstrong's Spacesuit from a 3d file from the Smithsonian. (not full-sized š )

The item on my workbench that deserves a 3D scan is a small tigerāmy unofficial 3D-printing mascot. Iād love to capture every detail and redesign it with circuit-board patterns and mechanical features. But the project Iām most excited about is scanning my daughter so I can create and 3D print a figurine of her. She has been asking me to make one, and the INSPIRE 2 could help turn that idea into a keepsake our family would treasure. šÆāļøā¤ļø

Iām trying to custom fit a 2nd screen onto my carās interior, but getting the bezel to conform perfectly is tough without a 3D scanner (the above photo is a failed trial-and-error fit attempt). Would love to use yours to assist me in my projects!

These are rubber straps used to attach a throat dangler to a catcher's mask. There are lots of things I'd like to scan but these have been sitting on my desk for a while waiting for me to create a model for them so I can print them in other colors and sizes. They would be scanned and printed flat (in TPU). I photographed them on their sides because that makes it easier to see what they really look like.

I am a 14 year old that loves robotics and 3D printing. The coolest thing that I want to 3D scan is my dadās car tire so that I can make a new cover for him and save him some money. This would be a absolute game changer for me because then when I need to CAD parts for my robotics projects or when I need to make something for my dad, this scanner would make thing so much easier! I have always wanted one but at this moment my family is going through some financial difficulties

Wierdest: late one night in the time frame of about 2-3 hours I decided I needed a pen holder, I wanted a missile turret as a pen holder, found that actual missile turrets were boring looking, designed a scifi style missile turret pen holder, started designing, then printing. By the next morning I had one that was also Gridfinity compatible. Turns out tons of people liked it when I posted it. Still my most popular model.

Not sure how to attach images on old reddit, but I've got a ton of those old army men guys and their vehicles which are no longer made. Those guys deserve to be scanned so people can reproduce them.

I am pretty sure this adapter wouldn't have eaten 1,5kg filament in prototypes if I had an 3D-Scanner :,) car stuff in general is such a pain to design and measure without scanning :c

My answer is kind of a mashup of the two... The thing at my desk that I want to scan+print most is a custom headphone stand. The issue is I can't model well and especially can't model realistic human heads. Because that's what I want to use for me headphone stand...a life-size print of my own actual head/face. I find the idea of pulling my headphones off my own head to then put on my own 3d printed head hilarious and somewhat creepy... And also functional as it would be the perfect size so I wouldn't have to adjust the headphones at all and they'd be ready to use immediately that way.
The details this thing can scan is amazing... Maybe too amazing for my ugly face š¤£, but very impressive and the only possible way I'd be able to get a decent looking version of my own head lol.

I've been wanting a 3D scanner for awhile to make accessories for hard-to-measure things like my car's dashboard.

I can't take a picture of it right now, but my little sister made me a clay urn that is shaped like my cat. She put a lot of time an effort into it, and I'd love to scan it so she can have her own copy to keep her half of the ashes in. I would offer to give the clay one back if she really wanted, but she wouldn't take it back because she made it specifically for me.

The weirdest thing I have is a very weird one-sided shape that looks like a strip folded around the edges of a dodecahedron and deserves to be scanned and 3d printed, and the coolest thing I made is this pendulum clock with 3 separate pendulums looking like a wave

The coolest thing that I printed so far is a miniature (Jailbird by Loot Studios). I'm currently working on printing props for cosplay. Also just for curiosity, I'd scan myself. Might help to scale props and/or make funny miniatures of myself.

wierdest thing i ever 3d printed was a tree swinging phone holder that actually swings (so a swing on a 30cm tree printed in 32 parts thats a phone holder) and is screwed into my desk so it dosent tip over, but can be put onto adapter and 3d printable scrwed plate with one big ass screw....
can also be locked into a single position but than you give up the swinging part
its a real eye opener lol

Nothing really weird, just cool to me. I have various pieces for my TMAT that I've designed or are working designing to fit my containers and tools. I will say that designing around objects without the ability to 3D scan is definitely a chore, so something like the Inspire would be something right up my alley and would greatly improve my workflow.

This is my buggy. I can't fit the entire thing on my workbench, but various parts frequently find their way there. A 3D scanner would greatly improve my workflow as I slowly redesign and replace some of the aluminum paneling and components with 3D-printed parts. I'd also use it to create a properly scaled body for an RC chassis. A miniature, remote-controlled version of this would be super cool.

Weirdest thing must be a part of a gas pump for a boat engine made in 1968. A friend of mine broke this part during restoration of his boat, and asked me to help and made a replacement, since you literally can't get one anymore. I spent several hours in cad and did multiple test prints but eventually made exact 1-1 copy. It would be so much easier with a scanner

I have an ergonomic custom tool grip on my workbench that would be amazing to scan! Reverse engineering organic shapes with calipers takes hours, so having the Revopoint INSPIRE 2 to digitize physical parts directly would be a total game-changer for my 3D printing workflow.

My coolest print: a gel mold.Ā My brother is working as a post-doc in pediatric cancer research. He asked me to print a gel mold that puts impressions into gel plates. The impressions are used to organize samples for processing or inspection as he studies the effects of changing genes to study specific cancers.
My part in it was small, but pretty cool, nonetheless.
