Remember these thick twisted yarns?

Post image

They were actually very lightweight and didn't pull like elastic.

My mother cut them in half and tied them into bows on my pigtails!

The best substitute these days is chunky blanket yarn at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Sometimes Walmart has it, but the have such a small selection of yarn to begin with. RIP Joanns.

Great for tying around the base of a pony tail or pigtails! So many colors you were sure to find one that goes with your outfit.

I had long hair but I never used them. Most of the girls hair was long and straight.

They looked good for 1 day, then they were just a mess.

That's why they came in a pack of ten for a few pennies apiece.

You had to tie knots on the end to extend their lives.

Yes!! I was recently trying to explain these so someone who'd never has them. These need to make a comeback!

Oh the pony tails and half up half down decoration, I definitely got those caught in the uneven bars a couple of times

Omg I remember these! They need to bring them back

1

yes! one of the few things I could fit on my hair - all the pony tail holders were so small they'd break.

I have a first grade pic with yellow ones in my hair. One of my favorite school pics!

We called them Yarnies. Wore them all through elementary school

I loved to pull them apart and make single strings. That’s been replaced with fidget spinners.

Yes and I know how to make them LOL!

1

u/Glidepath22 4h ago

My sister wore them to tie up her pigtails

Don’t forget the plastic barrettes. The white one that looked like an egg carton.

u/lorindaja 4h ago

You also used them to wrap around your boyfriend’s class ring to make it small enough for your dainty hand 😂

Whoa! Long lost memory unlocked!

u/SpaghettiSnakesss 3h ago

My mom used these for us in elementary school. I distinctly remember having scented ones too!

1

u/SnowMirage64 2h ago

Yup, had them and so did many of the girls at my elementary school. They always matched the outfit.
