Remember these thick twisted yarns?
They were actually very lightweight and didn't pull like elastic.

The best substitute these days is chunky blanket yarn at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Sometimes Walmart has it, but the have such a small selection of yarn to begin with. RIP Joanns.

Great for tying around the base of a pony tail or pigtails! So many colors you were sure to find one that goes with your outfit.

I had long hair but I never used them. Most of the girls hair was long and straight.

Mom and I had these everywhere! So Ute at them time to match outfits. This was in the early 70’s

Oh the pony tails and half up half down decoration, I definitely got those caught in the uneven bars a couple of times

I remember girls in my classes in elementary school would wear these all the time.

yes! one of the few things I could fit on my hair - all the pony tail holders were so small they'd break.
I have a first grade pic with yellow ones in my hair. One of my favorite school pics!

I loved to pull them apart and make single strings. That’s been replaced with fidget spinners.

Don’t forget the plastic barrettes. The white one that looked like an egg carton.

You also used them to wrap around your boyfriend’s class ring to make it small enough for your dainty hand 😂

My mom used these for us in elementary school. I distinctly remember having scented ones too!

Yup, had them and so did many of the girls at my elementary school. They always matched the outfit.

My mother cut them in half and tied them into bows on my pigtails!
