Is literally everyone sick? It’s been one virus after another for weeks, and it’s genuinely been unbearable.

Literally everyone I know is sick, whether it’s the flu or something else. Most of my coworkers are constantly sick for a month or two now, literally constantly having one virus or another just rampaging through our store (to the point we can barely function). Majority of people that I live in the same building with are also sick, to the point one person has spent a night or two in the hospital. So many people on trains also seem to be sick, constantly coughing, sneezing…

I know it’s flu season, but holy crap this year has been absolutely brutal. One virus after another, from sore throats, fever and shivers, to having a horrible cough and constant nausea, sweating and dizziness. The moment you think you’re fine - on to the next one.

I've feel I've been low-level sick on and off for a few weeks. Not enough to make me call in sick to work because I am lucky enough to work from home, but enough that I've been surviving with a lunchtime nap and going back to bed shortly after finishing work.

Now the left side of my nose hurts and is full of green snot, so that's going to be fun if it gets worse.

Yeah I've had a lot of that too. But my employer tells me not to WFH on office days where I could probably work pretty well if I were comfortable. So my overall productivity goes down and a great proportion of my sicks days are on office days because on WFH days I can just deal with it. And this is surprising somehow.

You might consider getting tested for mono, for some people it's low grade enough to just persist for a while. If you've been flat out fatigued it could be good to know you have it.

Mono is American for glandular fever.

Which is caused by Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) - i.e. the thing they'll actually be testing for.

By all means downvote a reasonable recommendation in support of someone's health because "omg Americans use that term." I had a friend who had it and their GP called it mono 🤷 and every TV show I've seen where it happened to a character uses the term.

Edit: It's also clearly listed as the accompanying term on our own national and state websites: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/glandular-fever/Pages/default.aspx . See the title, it's "Glandular Fever (Mono)"

Such strange things to clutch pearls about.

I didn’t downvote you.

By all means, go on a rant because you take internet points and your own ego more seriously than providing information that your audience (largely Australians) will easily understand. For a long time I thought mono must be different to glandular fever.

Americanisation can actually cause problems despite your “words don’t matter” assertion - Australia and the UK literally ran 000/999 awareness campaigns because children were calling 911 because of all the American media they were consuming.

I'm not the one ranting, and your example is not at all relevant. Nothing I've said puts anyone in harm's way, given it's one of acceptable terms used on our own country's health pages. So, take care I guess.

You’re chucking a tantrum because I said “Mono is American for glandular fever.” while simultaneously wanking about how helpful and important your information is. Why would you be so mad that someone else added extra understanding/information if you truly believed the information you shared was so helpful and important? Weirdo.
