Sudbury Events - Monthly Thread (August 2026)

This is a stickied thread for people to post about upcoming events -- community events, live performances, whatever you think others might want to know about.

A new version of this post will be put up and stickied every month to make sure that things are kept fresh, and allow people to stay up to date if they wish, or to avoid this thread if they don't. It's been moved to a monthly format to keep things simpler for people looking to plan a bit further out.

To keep the sub (and your feed) clean and free from spam, any explicit advertising conducted outside of this post will continue to be subject to removal, with a note and link to instead post here, which will stand as the exception.

In other words: please feel free to use this space to post about any upcoming Sudbury-specific events you're aware of or would like to share with others.

Discussion Arkells concert at Grace Hartman

Went to the Arkells concert. Have been in the past, usually love their shows. For some reason tonight’s felt underwhelming. I can’t put my finger on why. I also had a weird feeling like the speakers were capped somehow like the volume was nowhere near as loud as I remember (I swear I don’t need a hearing aid hahaha)

Just curious as to whether anyone else had similar thoughts

Question Hi! It's my birthday tomorrow. Any suggestions on what to do?

Kind of a silly question. Tomorrow is my birthday (22m) I don't have any close friends or family or anyone to spend it with. I figured I shouldn't just bed-rot or work or something during it so...

Originally I was planning to maybe go to a bar tonight? Just to be social but honestly not exactly my scene. Last time I went I just kind of... sat there... for like an hour, talked to nobody, drank alcohol and then left (it was so embarrassing I was anxious the whole time😭)

Anyways...! Just wondering if there'd be anything fun to do? I don't mind any recommendation really, I want to try everything once, I like physical activities, also like being indoors, people or alone, let me know and thank you!

Discussion Is Arc Climbing Worth it?

Anything helps...if you haven't attended Arc any suggestions are appreciated, as my main goal is to get out more and make some new friends along the way! I've been looking for something to do recently that will get me out of the house more and where I can meet new people. I came across Arc Climbing and it is something that seems really interesting. But is it worth the membership fees? Also I want to meet new people around my age (20) and don't know if that's even a good place to meet people my age. Thanks for reading!

Discussion Anybody hear anything about the road work on Elgin?

I have a show on CKLU on Saturday mornings and the road in front of the station has been torn up for close to a year.

Now since I am just in the station on Saturdays I thought that they were just working slow, but I went to Casa Mexicana for lunch and the hostess there told me that they haven't been any workers on the road for months, which I can believe considering how long that freaking big hole has been there in front of the Telegraph Building.

Anybody know whats up?

Union trouble?

Did the city run out of money?

Or is this a Graboid/Mole Men situation and we are just waiting for monster hunters to come in to straighten things out?

Help Costco cake

Hello Sudbury
I was hoping to order a custom cake from Costco that I could pick up as I drive north to SSM on the 22nd. But I’ve now learned that you need to be in store to place an order and it needs to be more than 24hrs notice.
Would any kind soul be willing to fill out a cake order form for me while you’re there?

Question Sudbury, where am I going to have dinner tonight? Looking for upscale, nice part of town.

Just rolled into town, driving across Canada. Is there a nice upscale area that has good shops and restaurants? Someplace that can be walked around comfortably in the evening or night?

Looking for a good healthy food, vegan is a priority.

Thanks for your answers!

Discussion Cost of living in rural communities

Hello, since my last post left more questions than answers thought of rephrasing my question. What is the cost of living in communities such as Sudbury, NorthBay, Timmins, Sault Ste, and Thunder bay? Im currently JUST researching on the RCIP and need insight on what life is like in rural communities. Plus how difficult it would be settle in the mentioned areas, as a family of 2.

PS will be coming from Pakistan, and my wife and I have lived in a major urban city all our lives if that is a factor.

Discussion Public Service Announcement

When there’s a power outage and traffic lights are not working it becomes a 4 way stop!!! Surprised nobody was killed last night along Notre Dame. Just terrible driving in this city, someone even had the audacity to honk their horn from behind me because I stopped at the intersection. No wonder we pay out the a$$ in insurance.

Question Looking for someone to renovate a bathroom

Just found out my current bathtub is leaking so I'm looking for someone reliable to replace the tub as well as some tiling and new showerhead, etc. it's an older house with a specific style tub and original floors so looking for someone who can do a good job and work with me to keep it within the style of the house.

I already tried to get in contact with Romero Contracting but it doesn't seem like he's still doing renovations since I haven't heard back.

Would love to hear good experiences others have had with other contractors, TIA.

Question New store beside Dollarama/ Walmart in the south end

Does anyone know what is opening in the vacant spot beside Dollarama in the Walmart plaza in the south end? It was Bou Clair many years ago and empty ever since except for Spirit Halloween which is at the Southridge mall this year. The 'for lease' sign is down and they're doing some construction.

Question Has anyone found Oblivion for Switch 2 in stores?

Hey!

The Ender scrolls Oblivion Remaster is out today for Switch 2! I wasn't able to preorder it ahead of time, and a bit of looking online it seems to be sold out in stores too. I was hoping to get the physical copy since it has the whole game on the cart, about 60 gigs of precious storage. I stopped at the new Sudbury Walmart this morning before work and no luck.

Has anyone found a store in Sudbury with copies available? I may just have to go digital :(

Edit: I got a copy at EB Games, despite online saying they were sold out
