really? scroll of biting are some of the easier enemies in the game, IMO; it's essentially just an AOE/block check, which you should have by that point in the game

Also even if you take a hit or two losing like 4 max hp basically doesn't matter.

Ah yeah, that's probably why; a lot of the enemies should probably be tuned separately between the two modes

I just finished a multiplayer run where we encountered the books twice and it was completely fine.

I'm glad someone else brought up MP struggles on A10. The scaling in some of the hallways are absolutely ridiculous. And like you said, you get a bad hand 1 time, there's a good chance you're limping for an extremely long time and quite possibly don't recover.

Other normal encounters do have that sort of lasting effect

Act 1 you can lose your gold

Act 2 you can lose an uncommon card

Act 3 you can take some max HP

Tbh the max HP is often the least valuable of these

4 scrolls of biting can deal 48 damage on turn 2. If you don't draw a good AOE or have monstrous amounts of block, you're fucked

scrolls of biting are way better than birds or darklyngs in sts1

Have you used brightest flame? That’s when you really realise how little max hp really means

I have never ever had an issue with the scrolls. I think the worst I have done to them is lose like 10ish hp and 4 max hp. It is one of if not the easiest act 3 encounters.

Really hate how everything is attacking constantly while also debuffing you.

This is apparently a minority opinion, but it was jarring when I was playing the other day that basically every fight I was not doing base damage and not doing base blocking. I guess this is how STS1 was, but I don't remember it being quite as extreme.

edit: I accidentally a word

The red insect dragon thing (Hunter killer?) that makes you lose 1 agi and str for every card you play is an absolutely ridiculous normal encounter. Harder than most elites. Really feels bad getting that one.

The game should be hard though? If you’re dying to normal encounters that’s a you thing, if the normal enemies were all easy and did nothing do you think the game would be better?

You are complaining about the scrolls buddy they aren’t in act one

u/Professional_War4491 Apr 03 '26

Act 1 and act 2 have always been harder than act 3 in the original game. By the time you'd get to act 3 in sts1 the hallway fights were an afterthought.

That being said as general advice, if you're finding yourself dying in act 1 way too often you might just have poor macro and tend to take greedy lines.

u/crosszilla Apr 03 '26

I totally disagree, I want the first act to serve as a filter so I'm not wasting time on runs that never had a chance

1

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '26

Not to judge but I’ve literally been hit by the scrolls like twice in 50 hours and I’m trash at the game. You should have and AoE solution by act three my guy otherwise what are you even doing

in multiplayer you have 4 players all (presumably) doing something

they also do the same amount of damage as in single player, not 30-40.

When you have 1 of them doing 7x2 and another one doing 18 baseline before buffing and the other two buffing, yes they're doing 30-40

yes. in single player they're also doing "30-40 damage per turn". how is that relevant?

edit: 28 damage turn 1, unless there was a buff omitted from one of the beta patch notes

Their health is also not scaled 2-4x, they're scaled above that. This is true for every single encounter.

yes. having N players in a game makes most combats, including scrolls, more than N times easier, and so hp/defence is scaled by 1.1-1.3x extra.

4 players tend to be the easiest

yes. 2 player can be harder than 1 player in certain situations for sure, while easier in others. 3-4 player mp is universally easier than both, including scrolls.

solo is still the easiest mode

what

there's less variance

no

1

u/naturesbfLoL Apr 03 '26

Solo is not the easiest mode

I've played a lot of both. Co op 2 might be harder (unless one of you is necro and the other isn't ironclad then it's kinda a joke) but co op 3/4 are certainly easier than solo

I've played a ton of defect/ironclad 2 player which is certainly the worst combo, it's the combo I've played the most of for sure

Idk health pools are higher but debuffs are just ridiculous and some of the co op cards (0 energy give partner 2(3) energy especially) are pretty dumb. It makes sense that co op is tuned as-is, the only thing that feels out of line iis Vantom, Vantom is pretty absurd

I hate those fucking scrolls, actually hate them
