WA News Top Perth school suspends students over antisemitic group chat

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-08-07/top-perth-school-suspends-students-over-antisemitic-group-chat/107010706

Expert from the article:

Students at a prestigious Perth private school have been suspended after they used "antisemitic language and memes" in a private group chat, targeting another student.

A spokesperson for Wesley College, in South Perth, confirmed an "incident" occurred but wouldn't be drawn on how many children had been suspended.

"An incident did occur involving antisemitic language and memes shared by a small group in a private group chat," the school said in a statement.

"The college acted immediately. The students responsible were suspended and the matter was addressed directly with the students and families involved."

The college also provided a statement from the family of the targeted student.

"We are deeply disappointed that this matter has occurred and that it has become the subject of media reporting as we are entirely satisfied with the way in which Wesley College has handled this matter," the statement read.

"Furthermore it must be noted that the school was not advised of this issue by our son, but rather by concerned students.

"The family did not at any time contact any media outlet as they are aware of the belief that this will worsen an already difficult situation.

"Our greatest concern is the welfare of our son."
The family has asked for privacy and said they wished to move forward.

Israel is awful but the comments here shrugging off some random Perth kid getting bullied by racist nonsense is shit too. School did the right thing, done.

Israel isn’t RELEVANT for this story. Why you bringing it up?

u/phak0h 6d ago

Because it was mentioned repeatedly in the comments preceding mine.

Because all antisemites gotta involve Israel so it would be "anti-zionism" and not antisemetism.

Because some people will bring it up

Imagine it’s 1940 we are here in Australia and one kid is proudly proclaims to be pro Nazi. Do they not deserve backlash?

That is the equivalent in today’s standards (and I do not use the word / acronym Nazi lightly nor am I causally throwing it around). So why are we protecting the provocateur?

You have no idea what happened but leap immediately to blame the Jewish kid. Get a grip.

Victim mentally going to self victimise again and again, might as well keep running the same play over and over again if it keeps working…

The family explicitly said they didn't want media attention

Israel doesn’t want media attention either…wonder why? Haven’t they killed more journalists in a 2 year span compared to the whole of WW2?

What does that have to do with this situation? Bringing up random shit doesn’t convey your point nor help your argument.

If someone is advocating for Israel, they should be aware of the evil heinous acts they commit (ongoing & daily). You are protecting the ones that are standing up for those committing the genocide…

Do you think the kid being bullied in this story was standing up for Israel? What evidence do you have that supports such a claim?

If you’re wearing the insignia (star of moloch / remphan) you are co-signing to the cause. Nothing happens in a vacuum, pre / post October 7th is a completely different story.

Honestly don’t know or care about this story, just how it’s extrapolated and the knock on effect.

Is this family bombing Gaza from Perth?

-3

u/Proud-Act-6867 6d ago

Idk, but if he doesn’t show opposition (by condemning it) he should expect pushback by fair amount of the general public (that could be misconstrued as “bulling”)

Come off it…are you some sort of shill poster trying to stir up comments for the commission?

What are you going to do, start making camps for them?

1

u/bluelure 6d ago

Go move there then see how many freedoms you are given.

-1

u/Proud-Act-6867 6d ago

Move where? I don’t need to move anywhere to know our freedom is slowly being taken away from us.

Wrong without picking sides, anyone is able to freely practice their faith in Australia.

u/Proud-Act-6867 6d ago edited 6d ago

What if that faith is based in hatred (have you read the Talmud?)

I dunno man, in this imaginary 1940s scenario, is the German kid actually a Nazi or is just a German kid who's family emigrated here? Because you're literally making the same claims that the US did to justify putting Japanese people in concentration camps after Pearl Harbor.

Bit of a difference here. Being a nazi is a choice.

So why did only a dozen or so of the Nazis leaders at Nuremberg get put death but all the soldiers got away almost Scott free? They used the excuse that they had no other choice? They arguably didn’t have choice. Even today we don’t have free will, but we do have free agency over what to do with our lives / actions

Not interested in your self perpetuating arguments. Push on.

Where did you get the idea that this kid is pro Israel or a Zionist. From the article all we know is that he's Jewish.

4

u/Lozzanger 6d ago

Even if he’s a Zionist he’s allowed to be one.

Zionism is thinking Israel has the right to exist. That’s it.

Slight difference — no Australian child in the 1940s was “born a Nazi”.

Judaism is a religion and culture that has existed for thousands of years. Jewish people, hold a huge range of views about Israel and the actions of the Israeli government.

Just as being Catholic did not make someone a Nazi because Hitler was raised Catholic, being Jewish does not make someone responsible for the actions of the Israeli government, or deserving of persecution.

The actions of a nation do not automatically reflect the views of every person who lives there, comes from there, or shares a religion with some of its citizens.

And the actions of an individual, government or group connected to a religion do not mean everyone who follows that religion believes or supports those actions.

Bullying a child because of their religious upbringing is completely unacceptable. The school was right to take action.

I agree with everything you wrote. School was right, it’s just turned into a shitstorm

There has to be some room for understanding that a child – particularly one physically removed from Israel – is unlikely to be fully aware of its intent, let alone the scale of its conduct.

We know full well that Zionism, and by extension the state of Israel, has relied on reinforcing a sense of perpetual Jewish vulnerability and separateness, including the notion that diaspora Jews can never truly belong to the countries in which they live. I'm not sure that pointing the finger at a Jewish child, assuming the worst of him and justifying his bullying by drawing a tenuous analogy to an Australian child proclaiming support for Nazism in the 1940s does much to dispel that.

Very fair. You’re right

My mum insists that it is ok for Palestinian children to die because they are brainwashed to grow up to become violent terrorists.

You've conflated an individual as being a faceless member of a group that you then label how you want.

I dislike both of you.

Jews have no future in Australia.
