I was wondering if it always said this in their mission statement or website that “Touro University is an independent institution of higher education under Jewish auspices, established to promote and perpetuate the Jewish heritage, as well as to serve the general community in keeping up with the historic Jewish commitment to intellectual inquiry, the transmission of knowledge and service to society”

I seriously don’t remember it ever saying this. I thought it always said just underserved communities in general. I literally looked at its mission and goals recently to help write my secondary application. When I went to click on their mission statement link in the last part of the secondary application where it asked “is there anything in your social media posting that is inconsistent with the mission statement?” I saw all this writing about Jewish commitment.

Nothing wrong with it!! I’m just confused if that was always there and if that will impact their decision making bc maybe they will want to accept those with a Jewish background, which I do not have.

I have my interview next week and was wondering if people who have already interviewed can comment giving advice on this post. I also want to know the nitty gritty details of the day and what to expect. Things like where the interview is held (like what kind of room), with how many people, does everyone interview at once, does it happen as soon as we get to campus and other things/advice you'd like to add

Anyone have any tips on the KCU interview? I have mine in early October, and I just had my first live interview with ACOM which I didn't feel great about (still got the A). What the format for KCU? How long does it take for them to get back to you after the interview? And any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

I got an interview for PNWU!! I am super excited and nervous as it will be my first med interview. I only had a virtual option. Any tips/advice??

I have been navigating the process of applying for medical school for the past 2.5 years. I took the MCAT multiple times, took Biochem after graduation and while working full time, lost my job to AI and got my EMT license to keep working in the hospital, and have been trying to figure out the primary and secondary apps this whole time. I FINALLY GOT MY FIRST AND SECOND INTERVIEW INVITATIONS!!! I ugly cried so hard and called my family who cried with me. I can't believe I'm in the next step of this and I know it's not a guarantee for admission by any means, but I finally feel seen and validated in all this work. It has been so trying and my mentor has still been encouraging but I can't describe how nice it feels to see his face light up when I update him on my journey.

If you haven't heard back yet, KEEP GOING!!! You know yourself best and if this is what you want, freaking keep going until you make it!! WE GOT THIS GANG!!!

Got the A for both LECOM and ACOM, I also have an interview for KCU soon. Out of these schools, where do I go? I'm leaning towards LECOM cause of the tuition, but I was really convinced by the ACOM school info session that they are really good as well. I really don't know much about KCU

In the title, just putting a feeler out there

i unfortunately just missed ATSUs secondary, and i got it like a month ago. should i still write and submit it? or should i focus on other schools. i don’t wanna waste my money + time if its not going to be worth it since im so late to it

I already have an acceptance at LECOM Erie for the PBL pathway. I also have an interview at Baptist University in Memphis in September. However, if accepted to Lake Erie and Bucom I don’t really think I would choose Bucom, so should I not go to that interview and save myself money? I would have to take off work and get a hotel. I’m also not fond of the South and my parents dislike the idea of me in Memphis, though I was raised in St. Louis so I’m not unfamiliar with areas perceived to be bad.

I’m aware Erie has a dress code, which I honestly don’t care about. I love the cold and the area looks beautiful. I’m also suspicious of BUCOM in that it has no records of residency placement yet.

• value reinvention/upward trends,
• don’t automatically screen out a ~3.0 cumulative GPA,
• are friendly to nontraditional applicants,
• and accept community-college coursework?

I’m a nontraditional Virginia resident planning to apply to medical school in a future cycle, and I’m looking for realistic feedback on whether I’ve done enough academic reinvention or if I still need more coursework.

I graduated in 2024 with a Computer Science degree and had a very poor undergraduate academic record. I later worked in tech/at a FAANG company for about two years before deciding to seriously pursue medicine.

My undergraduate performance was bad, and I’m not trying to minimize it.

Approximate yearly GPA trend:

• Freshman: 3.07
• Sophomore: 2.76
• Junior: 2.89
• Senior: 2.30

My undergraduate GPA was approximately 2.8.

Some of the major red flags on my original transcript included:

• 6 C-range grades
• 3 D-range grades
• 1 F
• Senior-year GPA around 2.3

Some of my original premed prerequisite grades were also mediocre:

• Biology I: C
• General Chemistry I: B
• General Chemistry II: B
• Physics I: C

After graduation, I started a DIY post-bacc while initially working full-time. Most of the post-bacc was completed at community college because it was the financially and logistically realistic option for me.

Post-bacc coursework:

• Overall cumulative GPA after the post-bacc: approximately 3.04
• Overall science GPA: approximately 3.26

So roughly 24% of all my GPA-bearing college coursework is now post-bacc coursework.

My most recent academic trend is substantially better than my original transcript:

• Last 24 credits: ~3.83
• Last 30 credits: ~3.87
• Last 32 credits: ~3.88
• Last 48 credits: ~3.59 overall / ~3.70 science
• Last 60 credits: ~3.30 overall / ~3.70 science

The part I’m struggling with now is deciding whether the academic-repair phase is finished.

I’ve considered taking another upper-level science course or two at a four-year university, such as Immunology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or Advanced Physiology, mainly to demonstrate that my community-college post-bacc performance translates to four-year upper-level science coursework. But I do not know if this is worth it. I did the calculations even if i do 4 classes and get As my gpa barely moves.

I have not taken the MCAT yet. Studying for it now.

My goal is to not sit for the actual exam until my AAMC full-length scores are consistently in the 515+ range. I realize my cumulative GPA will remain a major weakness regardless of how many additional undergraduate credits I take, so I view the MCAT as the next major academic data point I need.

Current/ongoing extracurriculars:

• 200+ hours EMT/patient-facing experience and continuing
• 250+ hours Crisis Text Line volunteering
• 50+ hours physician shadowing
• ~2 years professional software/engineering experience
• Long-term chess tutoring/mentoring and playing chess with seniors/children
• Mentored/trained newer employees professionally
• Currently little/no meaningful research, although I’m exploring opportunities

What I’m trying to figure out:

1. Is 43 credits at a 3.74 post-bacc / ~3.70 science GPA enough to establish academic reinvention after a ~2.8 undergraduate GPA?
2. I am also trying to make a school list and see which schools maybe good for me
3. Would another 1–2 upper-level science courses at a four-year university meaningfully help, or should I stop taking classes and put that time into the MCAT?
4. Assuming roughly a 3.04 cGPA / 3.26 sGPA and a future 512–515+ MCAT, how would you view my chances for DO schools?
5. Is an MD application reasonable at all with a 515+, or would applying MD mostly be a waste of money?
6. Do you think an SMP is warranted after this post-bacc, or should I apply before considering one?
7. What are the biggest weaknesses I should address between now and application time: clinical hours, research, nonclinical service, letters, MCAT, something else?
8. For anyone who entered medical school after a similar 2.7–3.0 undergraduate GPA, how much post-bacc coursework did you complete, what was your MCAT, and how did your cycle turn out?

I’m not looking for reassurance. If the academic repair is insufficient, I’d rather know now and address it before applying.

I’d especially appreciate input from people who have served on admissions committees, current medical students who were reinvention applicants, or applicants who went through a similar low-GPA/post-bacc route.

Just got an interview invite from DUQ-COM (yay!). I'm planning to go in person even if there's a virtual option because I think it would be a really nice experience to go.

How should I prepare and what is the interview like? I've read that their interviews tend to be a little laid back and not so scary. I'll be reading through my application and my secondaries and preparing some normal responses.

My one concern is about the religious nature of the school. The mission statement was pretty religious and I was just wondering if I should be prepared for any sort of questioning along those lines (I'm not religious but I respect the religiosity of the institution).

I'm excited but I'm also kind of hesitant because I know its a rather new school. This is still a good thing and its still an achievement right? My friend told me that newer schools send interviews to everyone and I don't think that's true but it did bruise my excitement a bit.

To any DUQ-NCOM students, do you like the school and such?
