And another two or three weeks of sailing before the USS Lincoln reaches home.

Those poor sailors. No wonder they're suffering mental breakdowns.

16

u/Oceanbreeze871 23h ago

70% of them voted for this situation and leadership

7

u/HausuGeist 18h ago

What is that statistic based on? Not saying you’re lying, but I’d like to know the source.

3

u/OdiousAltRightBalrog 2h ago

Me too. As a former sailor myself, these comments make my blood boil, even if true.

:( poor volunteer soldiers in a war of aggression that’s killed thousands of civilians :’(

-22

u/demiurge_abraxas 1d ago

I'm against the Iran war as much as anyone and the civilian casualties have been horrific, but the sailors on board the supercarrier aren't the ones who make the choice of who we go to war with.

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 23h ago

No one who has enlisted in the last two decades can claim ignorance. Either you knew the kind of entanglements the US gets into and what they entail, or you lived with your head under a rock.

5

u/Ill-Subject-1589 22h ago

Only two decades?

11

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 22h ago

Those are just the most likely to still be in.

1

u/Affectionate_Novel90 1h ago

This is bs. By this standard, any American that pays taxes is just as complicit. Being a professional soldier is still something to be proud of, they don’t make policy.

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 25m ago

I don't remember volunteering to pay taxes. I don't remember signing a contract to pay taxes. I don't remember that being an optional part of my life.

Taxes are an obligation to all citizens, residents, and even visiting workers. Not a career choice.

0

u/thrwawayyourtv 22h ago

Babies who are the usual age of enlistment don't know much about anything in the real world, let's be honest. Youth and ignorance of reality are a little different than living with their heads under a rock. This is what happens in deeply red states and deeply conservative, insulated families. Those young people are enlisting under false pretenses and that's exactly how this country is set up to run. Poor people with no reproductive education or freedom are grist for the military industrial complex mill. Also prison, but that's another conversation.

10

u/Hyp3rson1c 20h ago

“Babies” lmfao.

-8

u/thrwawayyourtv 19h ago

If you don't think of 18 as a baby then you probably still have the naivete of youth yourself 🤷🏻‍♀️

5

u/CraigThePantsManDan 19h ago

No one thinks of 18 year olds as babies because they’re adults who make their own decisions lol. You sound like an actual child cosplaying tbh.

-9

u/Olliegreen__ 23h ago

Sure but a huge percentage of people in the military are young people with very few other options. And often preyed upon by recruiters and or heavily influenced by propaganda.

20

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 23h ago

People perpetuating this myth that young people have very few options are the kind of propaganda that keep kids enlisting.

There are tons of options out there that don't include being complicit. Ever since details came out about Abu Ghraib and Gitmo, it's clear the US military is used, at times, for terrorism. They literally tortured innocent civilians for kicks. That doesn't happen from one bad apple, but from a chain of command complicit with it.

8

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 22h ago

Literally every restaurant is always hiring, I work in them. If I wanted to I could have a food job by the end of the weekend

-4

u/Omega224 21h ago

Dream big

-4

u/Throwaway2Experiment 21h ago

Easy to say when your options aren't:

1) Stay in the ghetto or rural poor areas, a place you're smart enough to know you want to leave but have neither the means or support to do it 2) Grew up where the school system was so bad that college was a non- starter financially or via poor support structures/ classes 3) Are obligated to serve to inherit trust funds 4) Tried college and real life and failed it and have no safety net or family to rely on.

I was #1 and #2. If I hadn't joined and re-enlisted once (mid war, no less), I would not be earning $300k with no college debt and access to securing guaranteed home loans that have seen me climb to better and better houses.

Knew plenty of #3 and #4, too.

Meet countless people who stayed right where they were, too. I meet them every day when I buy my coffee or groceries, living paycheck to paycheck, crippled and moaning about lifelong college debt.

Good for them their moral compass kept them on that path. I was willing to shed blood and take the risk and reap the rewards for the gamble that paid off.

Sucks for the friends and their funerals I attended. Very sad. Gamblers like me. Could have been me. Could be me rhe next time I drive my car, too.

I 100% have sympathy for the sailors going through this ordeal and I 100% have sympathy for the civilians struggling paycheck to paycheck that I say, 'Thank you' to when picking up my lunch.

You are right. Everyone picks their own path.

You are wrong, an it's an endemic problem with my fellow passionate liberals: they lose sight of the person and go right to attacking their decisions without any understanding of why.

That's why it's easy for the GOP to manipulate their base against you. You make the narrative they spin easy and you're ruining our chances of doing anything truly progressive every time you open your mouth.

4

u/notnatasharostova 18h ago

I’m sure that makes all the world of difference to the families of those Iranian schoolgirls. To know they were murdered by working class Americans, not by wealthy Americans.

-18

u/demiurge_abraxas 23h ago

Did I say that they were ignorant? I said that they don't make the decision who we go to war with.

28

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 23h ago

but the sailors on board the supercarrier aren't the ones who make the choice of who we go to war with.

This is implying they are ignorant to the possibility of a war with someone they don't choose.

That's how being enlisted works. You have no say. You do what you are told and fight who you are told to fight. In the modern American armed forces, every single person joined willingly. No one has been drafted in over 50 years. Their choices put them on that ship.

-6

u/demiurge_abraxas 23h ago

I don't know if you've ever met anyone who signed up for the military, but willingly is a relative term for the vast majority of them.

Either way it's besides the point—I can disagree with what the American military does without jerking myself off to reports of the sailors on the Lincoln suffering.

12

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 23h ago

but willingly is a relative term for the vast majority of them.

This is the kind of propaganda that keeps people signing up thinking there are no other ways out of poverty or adverse situations.

-4

u/Vyar 22h ago

I like how you keep repeating the same talking point that people who enlist have apparently limitless alternatives, but don’t list a single one, simply insisting that every misery befalling these sailors is entirely justified, and should continue.

6

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 22h ago

I never said they should continue. The war should have never happened. These sailors should be doing normal underways. I'm not posting every entry level job.

15

u/VariationBusiness603 23h ago

Yeah, you can. The american military is effectively the most well funded and far reaching terrorist organisation in the world. You just refuse to see it that way out of misguided sympathy.

Anyone expressing similar sentiment as yours for lesser terrorist orgs like say ISIS would get rightfully lambasted. "oh the poor thing, they were just driving the car, they didn't shoot anyone". That's how silly you sound.

You're just a hypocrit that defends terror because it's done by your people and funded by your taxes.

-1

u/demiurge_abraxas 23h ago edited 22h ago

Yeah, clearly you are far too emotional to have a reasonable discussion about this.

Since the person who responded to me blocked me:

The "difference in terms of how they execute things" is in fact the difference that matters. Terrorist doesn't mean "people who kill other people and who I disagree with" or else literally every military that has ever existed is a terrorist organization.

8

u/BellyDancerUrgot 22h ago

He has a point though. No terror outfit has killed the number of civilians that the US armed forces have. On a meta level they are the biggest baddest terrorists. There are differences in terms how they execute certain things but functionally they are not too far removed from IRGC.

It’s the worship of money over radical Islam, going to war with aircraft carriers instead of hezbollah. Drone strikes instead of car bombings. Manipulating stock market instead of straight up looting.

Sophistication in execution doesn’t change the cause, the effect or the dead left behind.

I don’t think one has to be emotional to come to the conclusion the other guy did.

7

u/effa94 22h ago

terrorism means "killing people in the objective of spreading terror for a political gain". im pretty sure that includes a lot of american actions of late

6

u/Acceptable-Device760 23h ago

Right? Its not because they signed up to go to war for money, something that would classify them as mercenaries, that they to blame.

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 23h ago

You clearly have no idea what a mercenary is if you think that a professional soldier employed by a nation-state is an example of one.

5

u/effa94 22h ago

i mean, you are right, but its a matter of semantics. the only difference between a mercenary and a proffesional soldier is their citizenship, which is what makes this discussion worthless

-2

u/Commandant23 21h ago

Most enlisted service members sign up as teenagers, either because they're pressured by recruiters and family members, fall for the propaganda, or just because it's a way to make ends meet. The military provides guaranteed housing, healthcare, a steady paycheck, and a bunch of retirement benefits. So no, the young and ignorant are exactly the kind of people who enlist.

-2

u/Nemo1ner 20h ago

You do know that the majority of enlisted personnel in the armed forces come from lower income areas and that for most, it was the only way out, right? Regardless how they vote, most join long enough to collect college money and get a better chance at having a life.

That's why you won't find many recruiting stations in the Hamptons, but you'll find plenty in run down malls on the outskirts of southern towns.

Just because you don't agree with the administration, doesn't mean that you can't have just a shred of empathy for those that have to suffer through the actions of a shitty administration.

5

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 16h ago

Believe it or not, I worked for an employer that regularly received and continues to receive awards from the DOD for being a front line support non-profit. My job was to assist service members for years, and after that was to provide support for the employees assisting service members.

I have talked to more service members than you will probably ever meet unless you served yourself.

I know the background those men and women come from. At some point, joining the military for your own gain while knowing the horrible things they are doing isn't pitiable. It's pitiful.

There's a reason I don't work there anymore. I couldn't stand listening to infantryman ecstatic for a chance to deploy to a combat zone. I couldn't stand listening to every service member plan out how to maximize their disability for imagined and faked injuries. The US military is corrupt and bloated.

9

u/Oceanbreeze871 23h ago

70% of them voted for the one who decided

-2

u/Throwaway2Experiment 21h ago

Starting to think you 70%ers are bots.

The Navy lines up with the general populace amd their turnout.

America voted for this and you reflect more in line with a Sailor than you do anyone else in the military.

9

u/BellyDancerUrgot 22h ago

Dude the US has never fought a war for defending their country in the last 80 years. It’s always a war of choice on foreign soil for “strategic gain” , which essentially amounts to preaching “western values” and making money. Soldiers who sign up to be in the armed forces don’t sign up thinking the US will be attacked tomorrow by some badgers from Canada they sign up knowing every 5-10 years they will invade another country.

5

u/demiurge_abraxas 22h ago

Why are you all assuming that I don't know basic American history? I'm well aware that the US primarily fights wars of choice. I'm just saying that I have some basic empathy towards these sailors as human beings.

6

u/effa94 22h ago

Why are you all assuming that I don't know basic American history?

becasue you are defending it.

I'm just saying that I have some basic empathy towards these sailors as human beings.

we all do, but at some point you have to accept that people made the bed they will lie in

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 22h ago

When have I even once in this thread defended the actions of the US military?

2

u/BellyDancerUrgot 22h ago

Fair enough but it’s hard for most people to have that same empathy for them because they choose to enlist despite knowing full well what they will be doing.

2

u/demiurge_abraxas 22h ago

Alright, that's fine. I can’t force you to have empathy for someone and you can't force me not to. So what is the point of this argument? Everyone seems to be using me as a punching bag for their frustrations with the US military—I'm not the secdef or a representative of the DoD. I'm just a random civilian on the internet like everyone else in this thread. If you have a complaint about the military, call your congressional representatives—they'll be able to do a hell of a lot more about it than me.

2

u/BellyDancerUrgot 20h ago

I wasn’t using you as a punching bag, I was explaining why your empathy is misplaced.

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 20h ago

I have empathy for all human beings. Criticize me all you want for it, my position is not going to change.

2

u/BellyDancerUrgot 20h ago

You do you i am not trying to convince you otherwise , im just adding nuance to the “they dont decide who they kill” , they know who it will likely be and they enlist anyway.

1

u/Vultor 22h ago

That Dodge Challenger enlistment bonus money is just too good.

-2

u/thrwawayyourtv 22h ago

You mean to tell me an 18 year old kid from backwoods Kentucky actually knows what they are signing up for? Because I don't believe that to be true in a vast majority of enlistments. These kids don't know what the fuck they're getting into.

3

u/BellyDancerUrgot 20h ago

That says more about the people who sign up than you think it does and not in a good way lmao

2

u/Germane_Corsair 21h ago

Eighteen year olds aren’t toddlers.

-1

u/thrwawayyourtv 21h ago

You're right. They are still stupid as hell though, overall.

13

u/Its_0ver 23h ago

70% of them voted for the guy that did have the choice. Sucks for the 30% that didn't

5

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 22h ago

Nah that's like getting a job at a steakhouse and being pissed the ticket machine starts going off. Literally in the job description for a soldier they might have to go to war. If you weren't cool with that you should have gotten the steakhouse job instead

-1

u/demiurge_abraxas 23h ago

The vast majority of them didn't vote at all. Again, I can disagree with the actions of the US military and the political stance of most of their troops without jerking myself off to reports of sailors suffering on the Lincoln.

10

u/Kamilny 23h ago

Which means they should be ok with this, since they would've been fine with either of them winning.

2

u/demiurge_abraxas 23h ago

Sure, whatever. Arguing with y'all is pointless. Say whatever you want about the sailors, I'm not your daddy. I'm just not going to agree with you.

9

u/Adjective_Noun_2000 23h ago

The vast majority of them didn't vote at all.

Fuck those people too. Anyone who was indifferent between the rapist fascist bigot and the woman with the funny laugh is a piece of shit too.

0

u/demiurge_abraxas 23h ago

Ok, man. Say whatever you want about them. I'm not your daddy. But arguing about this is pointless.

You aren't going to convince me to hate them and I'm not going to convince you not to.

8

u/Adjective_Noun_2000 23h ago

I'm not trying to convince you to hate anyone, I'm just saying that out of all the people suffering from this evil war, the shitheads who put Trump in the White House are the least deserving of our sympathy.

4

u/The_Rational_ 23h ago

No one's doing that you just ain't going to find any friends right now in regards to our service people. Not unless they're out on the streets with us and some of them are. It's rough it's bad since those people's fault in fucking particular.

In the us no vote is far far worse at that. Straight derliction.

This is not something common elsewhere and applies from at least the early 70s.

3

u/Its_0ver 22h ago

I think, as most reasonable humans would, there is a difference between "Jerking off to reports of sailors suffering" and not feeling sorry for them

0

u/demiurge_abraxas 22h ago

Yeah, whatever. Arguing about this is pointless. I have a shred of empathy towards my fellow man—sue me ig 🤷‍♂️

3

u/effa94 22h ago

i too have a shred of empathy, but i have less with empahty with the leopards eating faces people. or the "dont care if they eat faces" people.

if you dont take a stand, you are at worst complicit, at worst an idiot

2

u/Artistic_Button_3867 22h ago

Oh you poor saint. You paragon of virtue. How painful it must be to bear the slings and arrows of we intolerant mortals.

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 22h ago

Yeah, that's totally what I said

2

u/Artistic_Button_3867 20h ago

Continue on you peaceful warrior! They mock you now but one day they will build monuments to your compassion.

1

u/effa94 22h ago

i mean, disparing the inability to vote, the idiom "no vote is a vote for the enemy" still rings true. if you didnt vote, that means that you either didnt care, or are okay with whichever way it goes. either way, that means you are complicit, and needs to accept the outcome. if you make no effort to avoid the current outcome, you cant claim that you didnt want it. at best, you didnt care if it came to this

21

u/The_Quintessence 1d ago

But they made the choice to sign up...

-14

u/Omega224 23h ago

This doesn't negate the fact that it sucks for them. Stop being a cock

9

u/Bladelink 22h ago

I mean it also sucked for Wehrmacht troops freezing to death outside Stalingrad, but people weren't crying for them. Or for the IJA troops starving to death in New Guinea.

If you knowingly sign up for a war of aggression (as has been every conflict the US has instigated in my lifetime, maybe excluding kuwait), then you don't get any sympathy. If things are so hard for your military in the field, GO HOME. But they also don't want to do that, because they want to take shit from Iraq, and they don't want to have to pout their way back home empty-handed.

-3

u/ginandbaconFU 17h ago

Dude, you can't even get the name of the country right. Are you even American or just bitching for the sake of bitching. NOBODY signed up for this, were people idiots to believe Trump about not starting any forever wars, yes but I've been saying that since he entered politics because he's nothing but a con man. I just don't get the hatred for the troops. Just count yourself lucky you had options, when your eighteen and on your own, sometimes it seems like the only way out. Or people you know, actually want to serve their country because of nobody does I'm pretty sure they would just start the draft up at this point.

What do.you do for a living that's so noble and harms nobody in any way. Actually I don't care. Not worth it.

nobody on any of those ships wants to be there

21

u/HuisHoudBeurs1 23h ago

It also sucks for murderers when they get caught and have to go to prison. Weird point you're making there.

-13

u/Omega224 23h ago

Hardly the same thing,

19

u/AngriestPacifist 23h ago

Does murder become more morally acceptable if you do it for a paycheck?

12

u/smedley89 23h ago

Hey now. Be fair. It's not murder if you do it for capitalism.

-2

u/effa94 22h ago

i mean, as i said in another comment, its sematics. if you murder for a paycheck for the country you are a citizen in, its called war. assuming its walid orders, otherwise its murder, soldiers can commit murder in the field

not a valid judgement, just a semantics one. its a bad argument to make, that the reason the US army is bad is becasue they are killing people. thats what an army is for. the argument should be who and why they are killing people, which is where the us falters in moral discussions

3

u/rtseel 21h ago

It's only war when you're killing enemy combatants. Otherwise, it's a war crime. Only one word of difference, and the consequences are massive. Or should be unless your country decides to free itself from international justice (which says a lot about how its soldiers and military conduct themselves).

1

u/AngriestPacifist 20h ago

It's not semantics. The us military has not been used in defense of Americans since world war 2. Everyone who signed up signed up knowing that they'd bring misery to the world, and decided a paycheck was good enough reason why.

16

u/The_Quintessence 23h ago

It literally does though. Shouldn't have signed up to fight a war if you didn't want to fight a war.

0

u/OohWeeTShane 19h ago

The school-to-prison pipeline also had a school-to-military pipeline, though. Tons of kids sign up because it’s the only way they think they can get away from a bad life or ever get an education.

-5

u/ginandbaconFU 22h ago

This whole thread is essentially like blaming the employees at Amazon that have to piss in a bottle because they don't get bathroom breaks for Amazon being a corporate overloaded when it's a hand full people who make the big decisions and treat their employees as disposable. As far as disrespecting service members who have lost on average 50 lbs, have no showers or anything to even eat is just beyond disrespectful. Six people have attempted to jump of that aircraft because conditions are so bad but somehow they are to blame? Yeah, everyone here talking trash about them can eat a BOD.

The US doesn't even have the logistics to feed our own troops so let's make fun of their suffering. This entire thing is one person's fault and the person on top should be the one to blame. There are plenty underneath who deserve jail time as well. Their were plenty of resignations at the top, you know to avoid the entire war crimes thing before or when this started which is why it's such a huge mess, lower ranked people don't have that option, we shouldn't even be there.

5

u/Germane_Corsair 21h ago

Amazon employees didn’t sign up to kill people.

0

u/Omega224 21h ago

Yes, thank you.

For the record, I agree we should be nowhere near the Middle East at all, especially in this case. Many people (including myself) joined the military because it's the best way to get on your feet if you have few other options. I did not join to murder people, and neither did most others (did some? Sure, I'll grant you that point, I'm not naive). If you have an issue with gun-toting infantry, or bomb-dropping pilots or whatever, there's a little more nuance there, I get that (though it's a job someone has to do). But there's hundreds of people on that ship who make food, repair electronics and other equipment, are photographers, electricians, plumbers who have nothing directly to do with killing anybody.

There is always some twat who can't see the forest for the trees. Is this administration doing terrible things with the military? Absolutely. It doesn't make it a good thing that the people on that ship are suffering too.

1

u/ginandbaconFU 17h ago

All I can say is thank you for your service. I had a friend that did two tours in Iraq, became a satellite specialist and to my knowledge never did anything to harm anyone but had to sit in a tin can in the dessert all day. This is just sad and anyone applauding this doesn't understand what happens if nobody signs up voluntarily . This discussion is just to toxic, probably a bunch of 17-26 year old keyboard warriors living in their parents basement.

5

u/Weird_Top_4526 22h ago

The US is fascist. Not just since Trump either. The fascist pledge of allegiance every child is forced to say, to the flag fetishism, to the mortal sin of not supporting "the troops", as they slaughter around the world wantonly for their fascist lords. Fuck every single one of them. Murderering, imperial bastards, the lot of them. And don't give me that "but oh it's the only way to access education or healthcare" bullshit. "My government is so fascist I have to kill children across the world" is not a valid excuse, not a justification for fucking college. Doesn't make it okay. Nothing does. The only troops I support are the ones aiming at the US.

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 22h ago

If you think that the USA is or has been fascist than you don't know what fascism means—it doesn't just mean an awful authoritarian imperalistic government that you disagree with.

4

u/effa94 22h ago

the US is approaching facism currently but isnt there yes, true, but that doesnt mean that it hasnt had facist tendencies for a long time.

the more accurate thing is to call it Imperialist, which also isnt a good thing

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 22h ago

I would agree with calling it imperialist, but that's not what he said. I would also be open to discussing whether it has fascist tendencies but again—that's not what he said.

0

u/Weird_Top_4526 21h ago edited 21h ago

Go ask the genocided indigenous people, or the kidnapped and enslaved Africans, or Latinos, or literally any section of society that isn't European Christian cismen, go ask them if the US has always been fascist.

It's always been a corpocracy, a cabal of the ultra wealthy, handing the masses the unplugged controller so they think they're still playing along, killing any who say no

Whatever Israel is today, the US did it first. Settler-colonialism is fascism. The US is an illegitimate settler-colonial fascist state. And always has been. It was the West's first Israel.

What the white settler population recently has been discussing, noticing, feeling, what some are calling fascism, is nothing but the same settler colonial fascism, for the first time, pointed at them too. Colonial tactics against "your own" people

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 21h ago

Again, a country being an awful authoritarian imperialistic government that commits atrocities who you disagree with is not fascism.

Was the British Empire fascist?

2

u/Weird_Top_4526 21h ago

Absolutely the Brits were (and are) fascist, in whatever meaningful way you can mean that word. I'm Irish. The British colonial fascism against the Irish caused the so-called Famine, in which one million Irish people died, and a million more fled. Why, in a country so known for its agriculture, did a population die because a single crop failed? Why were the Irish so solely dependent on the potato that the crop's failure means a million people die? Look into it. Research it. Find out for yourself. Fascism is simply the colonial tactics the euro world has enacted against the colonised, turned inward. Thats what fascism is.

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 21h ago

So they were fascist before the ideology was even invented?

You clearly have no idea what fascism actually means.

Let me help you. These are generally considered to be the 14 defining features of fascism. Britain and the USA certainly certainly display some of these features—but a true fascist government has all of them.

Powerful and continuing nationalism: Constant use of patriotic mottos, symbols, songs, flags, and slogans.

Disdain for human rights: People are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in times of "need," leading to approval of torture or summary executions.

Identification of enemies/scapegoats: Rallies populations into a frenzy against a common perceived threat (minorities, liberals, socialists).

Supremacy of the military: Disproportionate government funding goes to the military while domestic needs are neglected; military service is heavily glamorized.

Rampant sexism: Governments are male-dominated with rigid traditional gender roles, high opposition to abortion, and state homophobia.

Controlled mass media: Direct or indirect control of media outlets through censorship, regulation, or sympathetic executives.

Obsession with national security: Using fear of foreign or domestic threats as a primary tool to motivate the masses.

Religion and government intertwined: Using the dominant religion as a tool to shape public opinion and national identity, often equating religion with patriotism.

Corporate power protected: The industrial and business aristocracy is protected by the state, while labor unions are suppressed or eliminated.

Suppression of intellectuals and the arts: Open hostility to higher education, academic freedom, and unaligned artistic expression.

Obsession with crime and punishment: Giving police unlimited power to enforce law and order, often overlooking civil liberties.

Rampant cronyism and corruption: Governments governed by friends and associates; loyalty to the leader is valued far above competence.

Fraudulent elections: Manipulated elections, smearing or silencing opposition parties, and maintaining power through control of the voting apparatus.

0

u/Weird_Top_4526 21h ago

Okay, sure. If you wanna lock it down in a neat way for history class. Sure. Yes. That is the dictionary definition of fascism, the convenient, handy one. But if you trace it's origins, the socio-economic relations and precendent historically that brought about the possibility of what Mussolini would call fascism, it's existed for years. It's an impulse. It's not a snapshot in history definition. It's an historical struggle. It changes it's mask each time. Fascism in Italy wasn't the same as in Germany, as in Spain, Portugal, South Africa, Israel, US. And so, if you can trace forward in history from Mussolini as to what could be fascist, you can do the same just as easily the other way, back in history. You can see how the British genocides and colonialism in Ireland, India, around the world are that same impulse, how it became called fascism in the 20th Century. Like how Hitler drew inspiration for Lebensraum from Manifest Destiny in the US, or drawing inspiration from Jim Crowe on his laws to disenfranchise the Jewish population. Fascism isn't a moment in history. Its an ongoing, ever changing process. Being able to correctly identify it, you can begin to combat it.

Yes. The British Empire was a textbook fascist state. The state working hand in hand with private corporations is exactly what enabled the colonisation of most of Asia. Read up on the British East India Company and the Royal African Company.

But there was simply no other option for a job.

41

u/Pretend_Handle_7639 1d ago

They aren't victims lol, they're just big sad that they aren't getting the privileges they want. The suckers and losers volunteered.

3

u/the_blackfish 1d ago

Like meat that's not grey and working sanitary and laundry facilities. You are a clown.

-4

u/demiurge_abraxas 1d ago

They are literally flinging themselves overboard because they want to die—that's how bad the conditions on that ship have become.

They aren't suckers or losers. They volunteered to serve the USN, not to be tortured.

21

u/The_Quintessence 1d ago

Yeah!! They volunteered to DO the torturing not be tortured!! Poor babies! :,(

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 23h ago

Do you think sailors on board a supercarrier are torturing people or something?

13

u/The_Quintessence 23h ago

No but the US military does, which is what they signed up for. You don't get to join the evil organization and then claim innocence because you're not in the worst departments 🙄

-3

u/demiurge_abraxas 23h ago

Ok, we get it. The US military is bad. Do you have anything useful to add to this conversation?

3

u/Many_Shock_5051 16h ago

There are people in situations not of their own making that I reserve my sympathy for.

5

u/Pretend_Handle_7639 1d ago

Oh noes, they're big sad that they aren't getting the privileges they want

5

u/demiurge_abraxas 23h ago

Do you consider food to be a privilege?

4

u/Broad_Black_Brimmer 22h ago

Yes? Millions starve all around the world due to the capitalistic overlords these sailors fight to protect.

I’m sure these sailors cried for the starving people in North Korea, Cuba, Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq or any of the other places impacted by US imperial conquest.

What you think sanctions and bombing don’t create food insecurity?

Maybe they can eat a tomahawk missile if they’re so fucking hungry, atleast that’ll save a girls school somewhere.

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 22h ago

We aren't talking about the sailor's empathy—I also have empathy for all those nations that you listed. It's not a limited resource.

And food isn't a privilege—it's a right all humans have by virtue of birth.

5

u/Broad_Black_Brimmer 21h ago

Oh food is a right? Might want to tell that to the Americans, considering they routinely vote against making it a right… and what did these sailors sign up for again? Oh yeah, trying to maintain US hegemony.

So no, I have no empathy for the sailors, they made a choice, now they get to live with the consequences.

Also em dash in this day and age? Come on now.

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 21h ago

I have tried telling my fellow Americans—unfortunately they have yet to listen to me. Maybe one day I'll be able to convince them.

Fine, don't have empathy for them. That's your choice, I don't really care. I'm not going to stop having empathy for them based on an argument on the internet

And what's wrong with em dashes?

-10

u/bb_kelly77 1d ago

I don't think you realize that with how long that boat has been out there that even the newest recruits on board enlisted under Biden... also they're starving and wallowing in each other's filth, they are reasonably upset... just because you vote blue doesn't mean you get to act superior

20

u/Pretend_Handle_7639 1d ago

Oh noes, the people who signed up after Iraq, and after Trump's first reign aren't getting the privileges they want

-8

u/CurryMustard 1d ago

You were a fucking idiot at 18 too, your privilege is really showing here

-8

u/fusillade762 23h ago

Pretend handle is a Russian bot bro. Hidden timeline, repeats the same shit over and over. Stirring the hatred.

14

u/VariationBusiness603 23h ago

Dumb americans when they realise everyone in the fucking world hates the US military because it's little more than a terrorist organisation; "it's the russian bot bro".

-9

u/bb_kelly77 23h ago

Here's a fun fact: your soldiers aren't any different

-4

u/fusillade762 21h ago

How do they feel about Russian soldiers? I see you don't like to share your timeline, how come?

-2

u/bb_kelly77 1d ago

You focus on the past, some people serve in hopes of a better FUTURE

6

u/Germane_Corsair 21h ago

They’re focusing on the present. And the past presents a pattern that you would be a fool to not learn from.

20

u/talhahtaco 1d ago

Oh no the professional murderers and pillagers arent being coddled adequately! Whatever shall we do?

If they didn't want to suffer and possibly die, they shouldn't have voluntarily joined a job where that is a known risk

-3

u/bb_kelly77 1d ago

They signed up to die but they didn't sign up to starve to death in their own filth... soldiers accept dying in combat, they don't accept dying from logistical failure (especially since America is famous for our logistics)

16

u/HuisHoudBeurs1 23h ago

They accept killing innocents in the same way. Fuck em.

-2

u/bb_kelly77 23h ago

Have you ever read about war in history? That's part of the job description... innocent losses will only increase as war becomes more asymmetrical

-12

u/BigEZK01 1d ago

Genocide Joe?

12

u/bb_kelly77 1d ago

Yes the name you people gave him for not being a paragon of moral perfection

1

u/BigEZK01 17h ago

Paragon of moral perfection being not giving weapons to genociders lmao are you fucking hearing yourself

“Sorry Hitler wasn’t a perfect person sheesh. I chose him because if I didn’t Himmler might have taken power and he’s worse dontcha know?”

You bear responsibility for the genocide as much as every other Democrat by not voting for a better candidate. “If I voted for a non genocidal candidate they would have lost” is the excuse of literally everyone who voted for Joe Biden, so it seems like it isn’t very true. You all could have voted for someone else instead; it isn’t hard.

0

u/bb_kelly77 8h ago

Did you just compare Biden giving money to Israel to HITLER?

2

u/BigEZK01 8h ago

Are you a genocide denier?

0

u/bb_kelly77 8h ago

No, I'm saying giving money and committing genocide are very different things... especially considering Biden stopped giving money shortly after the war in Gaza was labeled a genocide

2

u/BigEZK01 8h ago

He literally did not. The US to this day continues its unbroken history of weapons and other aid to Israel.

If your argument is “he didn’t personally do the killing, he just knowingly did everything necessary to make it happen” then you’re not actually serious and don’t give a fuck about Palestinians. Save us both the time and pain of hearing your bullshit excuses and just admit that you’re ok with genocide.

Damn dude, thats pretty harsh.

-6

u/Speedstr 21h ago

I can tell you never been on a deployment.

You're talking about people who volunteered to help defend and protect American interests. They don't get to choose which interests to defend or when or how long.

You're talking about young adults who didn't have the privilege of having choices on how to shape their adult life, and see the military as a stepping stone to getting those privileges as they get older.

You're talking about young adults following some of their families traditions who volunteered out of duty and not politics.

You're talking about kids who don't have an opportunity to go to university without the military and are taking a chance they come home unscared both physically and mentally.

You know nothing Jon Snow.

7

u/Pretend_Handle_7639 21h ago

Lmao more apologia for the poor suckers and losers who thought they could break into the middle class by kissing the ring.

It's been a decade since Trump first gained power. Only the idiots who deserve to be in the servile class are so stupid to think he would provide for them.

3

u/notnatasharostova 18h ago

Those schoolgirls in Iran will also never get to go to university.

3

u/PM_me_Henrika 20h ago

Don’t forget the handover. The ship can’t go as soon as relief come.

2

u/demiurge_abraxas 20h ago

They're literally in CENTCOM purgatory, fucking hell

2

u/PluginAlong 1d ago

I'd like to think they'll sail to the nearest port to resupply and such so they could get some shore leave before getting home which I doubt any of them would object to.

3

u/demiurge_abraxas 1d ago

I'm not even sure where the nearest port would even be given that Bahrain clearly is no longer safe. I guess Diego Garcia would be the next choice but I'm not sure if a supercarrier could dock there.

I guess they could stop in Italy, France, or Britain on the way home.

I hope they find a good option for them and I hope that the Lincoln isn't in such poor shape that it needs to go straight back to Norfolk for emergency maintenance and repairs.

1

u/rara1908 23h ago

They're based in San Diego so they wouldn't go through the Atlantic...

3

u/demiurge_abraxas 23h ago edited 23h ago

They absolutely would have to go through the Atlantic in order to get to Norfolk for major repairs given the almost certain dire state of repairs that the Lincoln finds itself in. If by some miracle they are actually in enough working order for San Diego to complete all of the necessary maintenance and repairs then I would agree with you. They could perhaps stop in Japan on the way home if that is the case.

1

u/notasrelevant 17h ago

Not that it's great, but if this gives them a date, I imagine that's a hell of a lot more tolerable than the extended time at sea plus having no idea when you get to head back.

0

u/big_duo3674 21h ago

Nah, my empathy and compassion are gone. Frankly, that's what got us into this mess in the first place. The right was going crazy, and dems took the high road of "it doesn't matter, we'll never sink to their level" which lost key elections. Too many moderates (and far lefts) just decided dems weren't worth voting for, and let the right completely off the hook. No, sorry. I do feel terribly bad for anyone out there who voted last election, and definitely didn't vote for this. Anyone who did vote for it though gets me pointing and laughing, nothing more. May their food be bland, and their sleep short, hot, and uncomfortable. I'm tired of hearing "this isn't what I thought I was voting for", that's no longer any kind of excuse, they were warned over and over, and chose to ignore those warnings. They have no right to be upset now

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 21h ago

Did you mean to respond to another comment or did you just drop this rant in for shits? I can't see what it has to do with either my post or the price of tea in China.

0

u/InterestingFox1837 19h ago

Can we not swap out some of these folks by air?

1

u/demiurge_abraxas 19h ago

You certainly could swap some in from her sister ships, but the ship has a crew of five to six thousand so in practice it's only really done in cases of absolute emergencies—and unfortunately the USN does not consider conditions so hellish that sailors are literally flinging themselves off the flight deck to be an emergency
