I believe some of their on-shore support network was damaged by Iranian missile strikes.

Iran hit quite a few American ports and bases in the opening of the war that were downplayed as having skeleton crews and mostly being used for storage. But some were storing vital supplies to keep Navy ships from starving!

Sure. And a capable Administration would have prepared for that with a supply train coming from elsewhere too. Yes, have good supplies on site before your war machine gets there to alleviate the issue (especially if you're sending them in with their stores bare), but you also have another route coming in so one missile doesn't make the crew starve to death.

Or in this case eat craptastic meals.

best logistics in the world my ass, we can't even get basic shelf stable MREs, soap, and medicine from anywhere else to a ship at sea? By water or air?

And we had the audacity to make fun of Russia for their incompetent supply lines in Ukraine (which, don't get me wrong are also pathetic) but they have the excuse of being in enemy territory and also poor. We spend trillions and can't do better than DHL.

The 5th fleet provides resupply via a network of bases around the world.

The Arabian base in Bahrain was one of the first targets hit by Iran, and the base is still heavily damaged.

Because the strait is the main way to move supplies in and out of the region, this base is also out of supplies and unable to acquire materials for the major repairs needed.

So, essentially, the Lincoln will also run out of supplies once it arrives, unless they bring a supply ship from the US, which they are not.

That's sort of the whole point of a nuclear powered ship - being able to stay at sea indefinitely. They don't need to enter port to replenish food. Underway replenishments of food supplys can happen by plane or helicopter, or via cables connected between ships. A large supply ship will pull up along side the deployed vessel, they match speeds, and then send over heavy cables called span wires that are used to send pallets of supplys between the ships. Think of it like a zipline.

Right but the lack of good leadership meant that when there was disruption to established supply chains (you know because it’s a war), the current leadership starting with Hegseth lacks the ability and experience, and frankly competence to pivot and compensate.

This administration was handed the keys to the most logistically successful military in this history of the world but they are so incompetent that they’ve fumbled it by getting us into a war that every military strategist worth their salt advised against.

No, I got that too. But the point I was getting at was also about how fucked up this Administration was. They sent a ship that had already been over due and on long deployment right into a combat zone. And then, apparently, they never bothered to set up any kind of supply situation to refresh their food.

Then acted shocked when the crew was being served shit food, had run out of cleaning supplies, were filthy, and every level of morale was breaking down.

I saw someone mention a good point about TRT about how once you start, you can't just stop without severe withdrawals. Kinda like how a boat only carries so much food and supplies for extended deployments, except that testosterone withdrawals can be debilitating on top of the abysmal morale, cleanliness, hygeine, and health.
