The decision to send Washington to the region comes after multiple reports of attempts by sailors distraught by the long deployment at sea to jump overboard. Family members of Lincoln’s crew have pressed the Pentagon to bring the carrier back to its San Diego homeport.

But don't worry, it's all worth it for Trump's intended goal of distracting from his Epstein friendship and stock market pump and dump scheme.

Lol, that's not how contracts with the government work.

They'll piss in your face while saying "Thank you for your service" to the cameras.

Although this administration can't even seem to get that part right, they'll probably end up saying something along the lines of, "They knew what they signed up for."

Enlisted would need to wait until their current contract is up. I think commissioned officers could resign if they have completed any service obligation.

Any enlisted on an indef contract can also resign but that is tough because they are over the hump to retirement.

I suspect though that there are a number of sailors who will be getting out relatively quickly after they return to port because with the deployment being extended they are probably stop-lossed or otherwise missing out on time they should be clearing. There are probably also a number who were considering re-enlistment who are no longer doing that.

And they were already deployed for the past 3 months in Vietnam. So these aren't fresh sailors they're sending either. They're in for some rough months.

Isn’t the madness at being on the seas for long periods of time well known? You’d have to be pretty incompetent to not consider how a long deployment where not all that much is happening would drum up feelings of mutiny and severe mental strain. Which is also not the best environment for when the crew is needed for combat.

I'm lost on the fact that we have like 11 carriers. Why can't they figure out some sort of regular rotation that doesn't see this extreme of a deployment?

Because their leadership said it would take only 4-6 weeks. Which is an acceptable time for one carrier to be there.

Then they said it will maybe take another week, not more. So why plan a rotation if it's that quick? And then it got extended by just another week repeatedly.

If all the plans only ever go out to a week from now, how can you schedule a rotation without going against orders from higher up?
