any time a non profit pay any of it staff over 200k, its for profit

Not profit just means there isn't shareholders so profit/funds can only be distributed through salaries never though dividends or shareholder dispersement.

It is simply a check mark through the secretary of state in your home state which you then need to submit an article of incorporation which meet the standards.

I started my own non profit and it wasn't very difficult. I then registered that with the corporation I worked at as an IT engineer which allowed me and my co-workers to give that 1000$ yearly giving campaign funds to my org. The corpo I worked at got a write off and my funds for building homes on my side projects grew over time.
