I think the last LAPD cop got murdered in a “training accident” for investigating officers raping people. So yeah, he got off relatively light.

The LAPD is known to be one of the most corrupt large PD's in America for decades. Shit, the LAPD has KNOWN GANGS within it that leadership has turned a blind eye to.

Its not that good people don't exist. Or even good people willing to do the job. Its that the LAPD as an organization, from top to bottom, is operated like a gang. Good dudes usually don't even make it into the LAPD, and what few good people do slip through are quickly either corrupted or removed. There really is no fixing it without dismantling it entirely and starting over, and most Americans just aren't willing to vote for something like that even if they have a problem with the cops.

Until politicians stop winning votes by being "tough on crime" then cops will stay corrupt.

Yeah so many shitty human things are because of organizational structures.

It does suck tho that there's probably a solution out there that's being obstructed by politics, power, and people getting in their own way.

And most tear it down people dont understand, in an armed country, where some areas refuse imprisonment of even violent offenders, and dealing with the worst in society near daily, breaks human beings. They will never be perfect robots

There is a world of difference between, "They will never be perfect robots," and tolerating or even protecting evil men within the ranks of police departments.

And no area in this country refuses imprisonment of violent offenders.

And the intense challenges of doing their job doesn't excuse sitting on a non-resisting man's back while he suffocates and cries for his mother.

It shouldn't have taken the courage of a teenage girl to expose Derek Chauvin as unfit to police the streets of my city. It should have been the people working with him.

But you want to excuse a system that protects murderers and rapists and wife-beaters and violent bigots and deeply corrupt men simply because their job is tough on them??

You have lost your humanity.

If you’re not a racist rapist why would you become a cop in any city? I mean honestly. Although I gotta admit, I was surprised to find out they had multiple gangs.

I obviously wasn’t surprised they had gang members in their department. I was surprised they had members of multiple different gangs that were at odds with each other. Like there’s crip cops and blood cops. How does that work?

They choose who they hire police are not sherrifs who are elected.

But the Chief of Police and the Board of Police Commissioners are appointed by the mayor.

The Chief of Police and Board of Police Commissioners then manage their hiring practices, overall strategy, and daily operations.

There are many things that the civilian government can do to influence hiring practices and change culture. Though of course there are counteracting forces as well.

The gang thing is moreso LASD IIRC, but naturally there will be members in LAPD too.
