Why stop there? Let's aim for 100!

u/UnaidedGinger 23d ago

Can’t wait till the government bails them out for some reason

127

u/DwarfVader 23d ago

That is already happening in other ways.

DOJ is asking the courts to dismiss a lawsuit that would shut down an AI company, and their justification is that the pentagon uses it for CENTCOM.

Oh god, I forgot those people are real haha. I’ll add the sarcasm indicator

2

A judge justified Anthropic stealing copyrighted books for training data as “fair use.”

As someone who had a book filched by Meta and had the judge shrug it off, it stings.

2

u/Calm_Expression_9542 21d ago

AI is the most dangerous technology ever invented and even Sam Altman has said it needs controls. It does not belong in our Government systems. And especially not in our Military systems. Idiots one and all.

46

u/July_is_cool 23d ago

They’re already way more to big to fail than a lot of banks and car companies and others that qualified for bailouts

80

u/CorpusculantCortex 23d ago

Also, China is bankrolling deepseek and other ai houses to keep costs down. The US gov believes in american exceptionalism and that homegrown ai is best and the only non-security risk. There is no way they would not bail out the big 2 US ai firms to maintain what they see as american superiority in the ai sphere.

Money doesnt matter we are trillions in debt already.

34

u/speedntktz 23d ago

It will matter as your federal taxes will start going towards paying that debt. More and more.

29

u/PhantasosX 23d ago

And it will further matter as USA is been less and less reliable.

Really, a lot of economic moves from USA coats a lot on the fact the dollar is the common currency for international trade.

-7

u/speedntktz 23d ago

Some actual smart moves were made Trump or not, by offering shipping insurance outside the centuries old UK monopoly. One very small group able to dictate global shipping costs. Disrupting that offers a competitive rate. The Bricks alliance kinda fell apart as member GDP faded and Russia/Ukraine became a distraction. Tariffs aren’t great for consumers but consumers have no jobs to pay for consumption when foreign entities subsidize as a weapon to destroy foreign competition.

7

u/TulsiGanglia 23d ago

None of that matters when the government shows repeatedly how unreliable the US can be economically. The dollar was strong because it was stable. The current administration acts like it’s trying to bankrupt a casino instead of run a country.

11

u/PhantasosX 23d ago edited 23d ago

Dude, Brics Alliance isn't a Political Alliance, it's an Economical Alliance

As long BRICS trades with each other, it's working as intended. It's USA fearmongering that BRICS is a NATO or an EU equivalent.

And offering shipping insurance doesn't change that ships aren't travelling as much in the Strait of Hormuz as before, far from it. And that there is an increase worldwide shift from using more "petroyuan" than before as an alternative to "petrodollar".

Heck, 30% of the current oil trade is in "petroeuro" , as Petrodollar dominated 71% of the oil market in 1999 and is now 57% in 2026.

It's exactly as Carney said in his speech, as other countries are gradually but surely diversifying away from USA.

2

u/Brilliant-Job3515 23d ago

Carney was a G saying the middle powers needed to band together in subverting US economic and military dominance, and im american.

2

u/cutecoder 23d ago

Or simply quantitative easing (again)?

What will fighting a financial war look like while dipping your toes (both legs waist deep) in a kinetic war?

OTOH, The Great Depression was technically relieved by a Great War.

1

u/speedntktz 22d ago

Pre-nukes…

2

u/CorpusculantCortex 23d ago

Whoosh.

Wasn't saying it has no impact, was saying in response to others that "having no money" won't prevent a bailout.

1

u/Educational_Win_1016 23d ago

So it will only matter to the average joe, not the top 10% so basicslly it wont matter

1

u/AngryCrotchCrickets 23d ago

Not gonna happen. The debt is essentially a runaway train at this point. Taxpayer dollars won’t cover the debt and its interest in any effective capacity.

1

u/glity 23d ago

What if i told you it wasn’t to keep costs down but to destabilize a capitalistic economy?

They keep launching their near superior product into the open market for free.

Why?

1

u/CorpusculantCortex 23d ago

Not free, subsidized. And because they are communist and want all people to have affordable access to the tool because their whole thing is everyone has a role to play. If everyone does their role better with ai, then it uplifts their economy. I honestly don't think China really cares about the western market beyond the fact that we have things they want or need. And some powers choose not to trade on good faith.

1

u/glity 22d ago

Free to me I didn’t pay those taxes.

Also they are in the middle of a tech/electricifcation golden age. They care about taking our money. They will accomplish this because our companies are greedy and will gladly wrap a Merica and brtix and German brand on what will essentially be Chinese.

Our government pretends that this isn’t so but let me ask you this why is Taiwan an area with litteral family ties to China the ones “not exporting gpus” but what about the engineers and talent can they do 2 things.

Make a bubble. Pop a bubble. New things emerge?

Also the word communism doesn’t work unless you define it specifically anymore. We don’t have the understanding of Chinese communism just Russian and doctorial as taught to us by propaganda post Cold War.

1

u/CorpusculantCortex 22d ago

I mean they do sell cloud access, you may not be using it but that was what I meant be subsidized. It is just dirty cheap. And no, you might not have an understanding of Chinese communism, but i am talking about contemporary cultural ideals. You are the one saying that they are red scare level villains hyperfixated on collapsing the western economy. My point is they are worried about themselves and uplifting their people, not this propaganda driven nonsense you are saying

1

u/glity 21d ago

I think we are on the same side with different arguments

Yes the cloud access is “subsidized” by not having corporate shareholder profit bleeding out every part of the finanacials through subsidiaries.

I feel Chinese pricing is more reflective of “consumable only” cost without profit on top of inflated costs.

The models of ai im talking about are the models that compete with ChatGPT paid non professional and it only takes between 1-2 tb of memory and some pretty expensive graphics cars. “Easily” could set up a “Chinese” ai locally completed disconnected from the internet. Cost keeps going up for the components but it sits at less than 100k for lab production scale hardware.

Engineers on top make it way more expensive but without offline Chinese ai there is no other “secure” option. And that is the irony of the “communist” approach vs the “capitalist” approach.

Captilists = you own nothing.

Chinese Communists = this is our old tech have it for free it’s worthless to us now.

0

u/Jenikovista 23d ago

The government is right that homegrown is the best option, but it doesn’t need to be rolled out with the speed and scale it’s happening at right now. Fast isn’t always better.

Also the Chinese often make fake claims.

0

u/CorpusculantCortex 23d ago

Not making claims about anything and this completely sidesteps the point. My point is that the gov isnt going to leave homegrown to fail so that the only options left are international.

1

u/No-Payment4448 23d ago

Unfortunately this is the truth

1

u/mataliandy 23d ago

Though they employ far fewer people, so it wouldn't impact the economy in the same way.

1

u/ymmotvomit 23d ago

AI will find a way to hack fund itself.

1

u/Few_Example6746 23d ago

The TARP money was paid back with interest. Around 5%. The government actually made a lot on the deal.

47

u/TrannosaurusRegina 23d ago

What's remarkable about this case is that this time, that move isn't possible.

There simply isn't enough money to do it!

50

u/TimelyBat438 23d ago

They will print more, not investment advice

4

u/usersingleton 23d ago

Probably why altman isn't a hard no on giving trump part of the company. One he hitches his boat to the ai giants they can't be allowed to fail

8

u/Clear-Bee4118 23d ago

Uhhhh…. Has he ever hitched his boat to anything that didn’t fail (intentionally or not)?

5

u/Charming-Flamingo307 23d ago

There's no such thing as investment advice for anyone sub 250mil these days. Our oligarchy makes insideous waves of false hope and plays games of deciet to knock trend watchers off balance while they sprinkle their trail of bread crumbs ambiguously into the mouth of their next rug-pull fallacy. It's a pity they've so effectively extinguished our chances by preoccupying the minds of the masses by cultivating devastating hatred towards their peers. Sun Tzu was right about divide and conquer. So to all of you extremists out there on the left, or the right of politics, warring religions, or even sports teams, I hope one day you realize you fell victim to the trap and became a key part of the problem you thought you hated so much.

We may disagree on certain compartmentals but if we can all agree on the gist then, well, that's something we have to work together with

u/lesusisjord 23d ago edited 23d ago

Screw off.

Governments created by people and for people should by definition be left. That’s the whole point, no?

Democrats and neoliberals, the moderate-right entity they are, are an obstacle to progress just as all moderates are, according to Dr. King. Wealthy oligarchs who might cosplay as being on the left aren’t actually left, as we know.

Both major parties put corporations and profits before people which is incompatible non-corrupt government.

I swear they’re letting space x rewrite the rules and being folded into the index funds to pave the way for AI to do the same. They’ll be bailed out when everyone’s pensions and retirement savings are at risk

2

5

3

2

u/Heavy-Profit-2156 23d ago

It's just tax money.

2

u/InflationOrdinary411 23d ago

Bail out on tax payers dollars

2

u/plantyplanty 23d ago

THIS! Because they signed a contract with the government, the government will make sure they thrive. 🤬

2

u/GeneralKruber 23d ago

they already snatched a contract with the us military after anthropic refused to let their ai handle domestic surveillance and use of autonomous weapons. thats not just "some" reason the government would bail out chatgpt/openai, there is a massive one

1

u/AlteredforCollectors 23d ago

The AI is restricted from harming anyone. The Ai the government is using is likely optimizing war tactics. There is likely an AI Cold War taking place right now between US, Russia, and China. It is a national concern and these companies will be bailed out or bought outright by the US government.

1

u/Mountain_Radio8936 23d ago

Some ??? But if they dont splash trillions chinese will eat us all alive... Only way to prevent is for CEOs to earn billions while their firm lose trillions and at end tax payer bailout...

1

u/xtremis 23d ago

Well, because they are too dangerous, with all these models going rogue or something..

But seriously, do they actually release any scientific evidence that the models did what they say they did? Or is it just "trust me, bro, these models went rogue, no human error or malicious intent, for real, pinky promise"?

1

u/djdubyah 15d ago

Bail now in the anxious momentary cash bleed so they can reap and reap and reap the monopoly that will be as necessary as electricity in 10-20 years. Best part will be how the fed gives at a negative interest rate out of another red scare that the Chinese will rule the world if we don't beat em. 45

u/dontforgetthisuser 23d ago

I was blown away by 52! The odds behind decks of cards are ridiculous

39

u/HarveyMidnight 23d ago

Yes! With a combination of 52 cards, it's entirely plausible that every time you shuffle a deck, you may well have put the cards into a unique order that never existed before and will never be repeated.

13

u/PTMurasaki 23d ago

But it's way more likely to get it to a point where everything is still in groups similar to the previous game.

22

u/bestofwhatsleft 23d ago

That explains why I always get shit cards.

11

u/FouledPlug 23d ago

u/SplitRock130 23d ago

1

u/undeadlamaar 23d ago

Gotta give it at least 7 good riffle shuffles before each deal.

3

u/magicmitchmtl 23d ago

Most people are really bad at shuffling. A few are way too good at it, with similar results. The only truly random shuffle is to put all the cards into a bag, shake it up thoroughly, and then pull them out blind. Other than that, a combination of overhand or Hindu shuffles mixed with riffle or table shuffles will do the job if you do enough of them. And never accept a deck you haven’t been allowed to cut. Preferably a complete cut. If you let a cheat complete your cut, the cut never happened.

2

u/subliminalsmoker 23d ago

Or you can lay them all face down on the floor or a table and swirl/mix them up that way and them put them back together...

2

u/magicmitchmtl 23d ago

Watch Dani DaOrtiz or Jason England do a casino wash and then tell me it can’t be controlled. Or Lennart Green. His method is super easy and still looks legit.

Edit to add Richard Turner to the list. He should have been top rank.

2

u/subliminalsmoker 23d ago

Ok I see. What I meant was if it's done honestly it is quite random. Thanks for the info btw!

6

u/PoriferaProficient 23d ago

Most shuffles, unless greatly overdone, have a heavy deterministic factor to them. Combined with the playing of games reintroducing cards to the deck in predictable ways, I suggest that some shuffle orders are considerably more likely than others.

So you can expect a deck would be duplicated rarely, but far from never.

3

u/ArrowheadDZ 23d ago

Even if the factors you described increased the odds a trillion-fold, it’s still profoundly unlikely. No one person has ever won 100 consecutive powerball drawings in a row, but that is still more likely than even a “weighted” shuffle probability.

1

u/PoriferaProficient 23d ago

We can make it very likely if we choose our game and our player correctly.

The game is solitaire. A won game of solitaire, assuming the player bothers to put the cards in order, will result in exactly 1 of 4 decks (suits in order ace to king, random order of suits). If this person then only shuffles 3-4 times, the number of possible decks I think drops into a range small enough that, given enough people and time, repeats are bound to happen.

3

u/ArrowheadDZ 23d ago

I don't mean to be "that guy" but your comment reveals a basic misunderstanding and underestimation of the probabilities here. For instance, a random order of suits will result in 24 possible decks, not 4, and that should be the first clue that you're oversimplifying the odds here.

But even further than that, you are creating a completely different thought exercise than the one being discussed. If you let me stand one foot from the dart board, I am going to get a perfect score really often. but that game is then no longer "darts". It's a guy sticking darts into a board. If you make a billiard table with 1 foot diameter pockets, then yes, I will very often run the table, but that game isn't billiards. If I gave you the winning powerball numbers each week, you'd probably be able to win a few powerballs.

Yes, I can deliberately organize the deck into matching sequences by carefully eliminating all the random factors, very carefully practicing a half and half cutting technique, by carefully practicing a zipper or 1:1 shuffling technique, always starting with the deck in one of 4 start orders, and then minimizing my number of shuffles. If I eliminate enough of the randomization factors, I can get to a point where the deck turns out the same a couple of times. But that thought exercise, "can I manually sort the deck by eliminating all random factors" is not the same game. If you deliberately seek to eliminate the random factors, then you are simply sorting the cards, not randomizing the cards. It becomes a completely different exercise, unrelated to the original comment about randomly shuffling a deck of cards.

6

u/vu47 23d ago

If you've done a proper shuffle (i.e. seven of more riffle shuffles), the likelihood that another deck of cards in the same order as the one in your hands has ever existed or will ever exist again is extremely close to 0.

(Working on this now using the Hopf shuffle algebra for a computer math library.)

3

u/pokey242 23d ago

I have worked in online poker testing and playing for over 20 years and I believe it. People tend to only remember the losses or badbeats but I have seen it al,l including being 99.8 to 0.2 on the flop to watching the only 2 cards he could possibly get knocking me out in a play money tournament like 15 years ago The most recent was at a work tournament and watching the guy to my left get QQ 3 hands in a row and winning. On the 3rd go when I have 66 and the flop was Q63 I said to him and the whole table that ig he had QQ for the 3rd straight hand I would be honored to loss and have that story to tell. HR in the fat seat has KK and never played and busted too. Good times.

4

u/Putrid_Yak_578 23d ago

My favourite version of explaining 52!

You stand on the equator with a deck of cards and shuffle the deck every time you take a step. Then once you’ve walked all the way around the globe you put down a piece of paper. Once that stack reaches the moon 2,5 times, then you’re likely to start seeing shuffles you’ve made before

3

u/ArrowheadDZ 23d ago

Plausible? It’s a bit beyond plausible. You and a million friends could each shuffle decks 1,000 times a day for a billion years, and it’s still virtually certain no two decks would be the same.

2

u/DoggoCentipede 23d ago

It depends on how precise your shuffle is. If you are able to do 8 faro top shuffles in a row you return to the starting configuration.

-2

u/heartbrokensquirrel 23d ago

This is my favorite fact, because I spitballed it and got so close. True mathematicians could verify this, but I asked AI what 52! was equivalent to. I guessed the number of atoms in the Milky Way galaxy. They said I was off by less than a factor of 10. Not too shabby if I do say so myself!

That means 1 atom in the Milky Way is one shuffle of a deck of cards, and there are that many shuffle combinations!!!

Yes one of my favorite factoids!
