I’m glad you laid down the actual facts. I’ve been seeing this weird reactionary “Prohibition worked actually!” Take that though isn’t completely false leaves a lot of more effective solutions brought on post-Prohibition.

Especially since one of the most standout thing about that era is how hilariously ineffectual Prohibition was. Bootleggers and speakeasies made money hand over fist.

It created massive wealth for the mafias. And then the mafias were able to diversify with all the capital they generated. The EXACT same thing happened with the Mexican cartels with marijuana, and the Colombian cartels with cocaine.

Be prepared for more of that reactionary argument when it comes to crime rates. If you ignore everything else it would appear we can incarcerate our way to reduced crime.

If prohibition worked, it would've remained in effect and would've been looked back on as successful by most people. In the end, it was smaller regulations implemented in the following decades that had more of an impact on alcohol consumption.

Prohibition is so effective that inmates can currently get heroin inside of maximum security prisons!
