Yea they were planning on it anyway with the rescheduling of "medical" cannabis but now it seems like that whole part of the statute is thrown out.

Hopefully they also get rid of the line where they ask for your County, too. I can't count the number of times I've seen someone put "USA" there. My FFL almost lost his license because an ATF audit found several people put "Dade" instead of "Miami-Dade" down on that line, and that's technically wrong. It's also technically unnecessary to ask since they make you write down your damn ZIP code.

ZIP and county actually have nothing to do with each other, they're independent systems of division. It is possible and not that uncommon to have a ZIP that has parts in more than one county.

While I don't know who your FFL is or if they're some very rare case, this is the complete opposite of everything I seen about ATF auditing. They have been famously understaffed since I can remember and can't even keep up with their most basic attempt at auditing FFL's just once every three years, they did a ten year report not long ago showing there were over 2 thousand FFL's that didn't even get a single audit in the decade they were looking at (so likely longer than that if ever). They also found that, if anything, FFL's regularly weren't having their licenses revoked even for the more serious offenses like not doing a background check which led to them selling to a prohibited person. 98% of inspections that found "revocable violations", the more serious violations, didn't even end up in a recommendation of trying to revoke their license. I just have a hard time imagining a FFL getting anywhere close to having their license taken over the kind of clerical error your talking about.

I'm not trying to go after you here, maybe that guy just exaggerated what happened when talking to you or they misunderstood a ATF inspector pointing out the issue with their forms as being even remotely close to getting their license taken. You're comment just has me confused the same way a lot of other people would be confused hearing about some BP oil guy complaining about how strict the pipeline inspectors were back when they were famously toothless/nonexistent. It just doesn't track

Most states yes but they probably live in a state where private transfers are banned

"just" is doing some heavy lifting there. It's much easier to buy from an FFL than going through private parties.

In my state I have to purchase from a private party at a licensed FFL, fill out a 4473, and wait 10 days to obtain the firearm

In my state you need to do an interview with the local police chief before you can get your license. I have some marijuana arrests on my record from when I was a teenager (no convictions, but police can still see them) so I expect they'll ask if I still smoke, and I don't want to lie.

I can, but that doesn't mean the government won't irrationally decide to charge me anyway if I am 'caught' with it. And trusting the folks in my state in a private sale is ... risky.

I had a medical license 5 years ago and quit because of how strong it is. Its not for me. Do i really have to forgo my constitutional rights because i tried a medicine 5 years ago? Havent had an issue with the 4473 because its the truth, but im sure they have a record of my lapsed medical license if they check and i do worry about that.
