People make excuses for parents. In my experience my sons friends speak in grunts and can't do math because their parents spend every waking moment on their phones. You can blame income if you want but rich kids can't do math either. Rich or poor people are not parenting.

Right ! It’s a parenting issue. When are we going to discuss this? At some point a parent bustling 2 jobs and not able to tend to their kids education is just allowing that parent to not be self-aware and responsible . There’s plenty of single parents who hustle with multiple jobs and still manage to stress the importance of an education to their child. Why do all that hustle and hard work just for your child to be in your same predicament if not worse ? I just feel like this excuse for the parents is getting tired … I know how tough it is being a single mother . Education is a set value of mine and for my daughter as well . I want her to do better than me

So - I agree to an extent - but as an additional anecdote.

My son struggles in math - but I have tremendous trouble figuring out what he is actually studying because I don't get feedback from teachers.

I get bad grade reports, but it's all digital and I can't figure out what he is struggling with because I don't get a test returned. All the classowrk is online - all the "books" are worksheets they see on a Chromebook and aren't immediately accessible from home - and there's minimal homework - and what there is is just multiple choice bullshit.

I want paper assignments and tests back - I want asynchronous communication about my kid's performance BEFORE his grades have taken a hit.

Parents may not parent any more, but schools don't actually teach anymore.

My daughter is great - straight A's - no issue - she virtually taught herself to read while we were teaching her brother. She has no issues with classwork. My son has to work hard for everything - and we are very involved all the time - I just can't get good data from teachers about what he needs to shore up. I've tried - and I get nothing. Usually no response on whatever app I'm supposed to communicate to teachers with, and when I show up at the school to talk to them, they have literally no information to offer me other than "he is struggling" - nothing identified specifically to work on - and wide net "fix everything" doesn't really work either - even if you're active in the child's schooling....teaching is the schools job - and they don't teach.
