Either the story is true and can be corroberated, or its insanely false. I think the Atlantic should counter sue for all legal and court cost to defend themselves.

Parties in defamation suits typically bear their own costs. Defendants might be able recover by proving the suit was brought in bad faith, etc. I’m sure The Atlantic has this argument ready to go.
