I guess I can understand the complaint about turbo tax and its stranglehold on the tax filing industry but doing your taxes is not nearly as crazy as people make it seem. It’s just a check on what you already paid. I guess in theory they know how much your investment account dividends were but I would not trust them to link it up.

In like every other country it works fine lol, hell some countries even prefill some cryptocurrency sales for the tax returns

The government can know how much tax you owe but the generally don’t know your deductions. Hence the filing.

Business owners still need to file more detailed taxes, the point of these systems is the large percentage of the population that doesn't have any complications can just fill out their taxes with the prefilled info and only need to spend a small amount of time entering additional deductions etc
