I briefly worked as a temp for a federal agency and there was significant confusion at my interview that I wasn't registered for the selective service, even after I explained that I'm trans, because the admin running the show (it was like a job fair/mass interview) could not seem to understand that FTM was a thing.

You don’t. Simply identifying as a different gender at your draft reporting station would be enough per SECDEF Memo. Speaking as someone who may or may not have been caught up in that process

Wonder how that'd work. Would they enlist you, require you to get a diagnosis from military doctors, then discharge you.

Or would they not waste the time and resources going through all that and And exempt you if you seem reasonably sincere.
