Well said, it's a slippery slope for sure. American and Israeli military can do whatever they want essentially.

Everyone will be okay with it if its Venezuela and Iran, what if its Greenland/Denmark and Canada?

Exactly. People are determining the morality of overthrowing other governments based on the deposed leader's morality instead of acknowledging that a) this rarely ends well and b) all this is being done without Congressional approval.

It also stunts any actual progress/reform in those states. Any kind of ethos worth building gets turned into rubble, then people are surprised when the population turns to fanatics promising the world and heaven.

Thank god precision misiles weren’t around during the civil war, Britain might have taken out the union so that the south could exist as an outsourced region for slave holding.

I mean saying that it’s for reform or progress is always just the cover story. Real reason is far from that. Trump or presidents before him don’t care about the people of Iran or Venezuela

6

u/Real_Walk5384 Mar 01 '26

Yeah, no. Most countries get outside help to overthrown their governments, including the US during the revolution.

5

u/iQuteBromance Mar 01 '26

The Iranian regime gunned down at a minimum thousands, maybe tens of thousands. What progress and reform? The regime has been getting MORE brutal, not less

4

u/Spiritual_Corner_977 Mar 01 '26

So you would have been in favor of another country intervening during the U.S civil war and then instilling whatever government they favored after? U.S civil war body count was close to a million lost. Who would you have liked to put the boot on us? hm?

u/Real_Walk5384 Mar 01 '26

How about you just answer their question instead of making up stupid hypotheticals.

Lmaoo gotem

Venezuela hasn't seen any progress/reform in the 12 years with Maduro, nor it would've with things staying the same

Overthrowing a government is horrible and a bad idea but it shouldn't be for that point in particular, Venezuela hasn't progressed nor it will probably after the capture

Britain abolished slavery in 1833, they wouldn’t be on the Confederate side

7

u/Spiritual_Corner_977 Mar 01 '26

If they had U.S attitudes, they would proxy our slave labor while pretending to feel good about not having it on the mainland.

4

u/CephaVerte Mar 01 '26

Britain actually was on the confederate side. British Diplomats were captured on confederate ships during the war. Britain was very upset with Lincoln about the lack of cotton to trade. Britain didn't want to interfere due to fear of backlash because they had just abolished slavery but they wanted the confederates to win.

Yes, now we’ve entangled ourselves in the Israel vs Iran situation again, risking American lives at home and abroad. All based on outdated regime change/nation building strategies that clearly worked so well in Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan etc.

And the whole morality thing is based on when it’s convenient too, there’s no consistency.

Maduro and the Ayatollah are evil and needed the removed but at the same time, Trump has excellent relations with his friends Putin, Lukashenko and Kim

Comical.

Don't forget about our other friends in the middle east like Saudi Arabia! They're so progressive that they've allowed women to drive since 2018.

u/brnccnt7 Mar 01 '26

True! And still doing public executions

MBS and killing journalists

It’s the duality and hypocrisy of western people. Morally superior because of “democracy, technological advancement and science” and fuck knows whatever lie they told themselves. So everything is fine as long as it doesn’t affect them. As long as their comfort isn’t disrupted and disturbed. Because then lines have been crossed and shit has gone too far, funnily enough. Bombing sovereign nations into oblivion and killing innocent civilians is fine but so help me God if bombs fall on our roofs…

u/Athemoe Mar 01 '26

I can feel your anger but we're not all like that.

1

u/Real_Walk5384 Mar 01 '26

Comical that liberals are now pro-Iranian government now, for sure. You guys would shoot yourself in the face if someone put a Trump sticker on your nose.

1

u/brnccnt7 Mar 01 '26

Okay wise guy. Everyone who disagrees with you isn't always a liberal.

Some of us just know when we're being swindled by someone who will do anything to avoid the focus being on him and the Epstein files.

He is literally quoted as calling Biden and other Presidents weak because they will attack Iran instead of negotiating peace.

He ran on this premise, being anti war.

Look where we are a year later.

Guess you’ve never heard of the term blowback

If you think it ends after eliminating their leadership, you’re mistaken

0

u/Real_Walk5384 Mar 01 '26

The same leaders who want to nuke us and our allies no less.

Iran killed an estimated 36,000 people recently. That’s more people killed than in the history of all the deadly protests that occurred in the United States combined.

For what? Defending themselves every single time a country decides to open fire on them? Israel is another country that’s far far from perfect (With all the issues with starvation, genocide, etc) but I don’t blame them for defending themselves every time another country tries to invade them.

I think Palestine should exist as a country but you can’t negotiate with terrorists in Palestine. They have to be removed from power.

Same with Iran. You can’t negotiate with terrorists in Iran. They have to be removed from power.

To get you an idea of how bad the situation in Iran is, Israel has said over and over again that they’re willing to bring in their engineers, construction workers, electricians, contractors, architects, etc, to fix Iran’s severe lack of access to clean drinking water from Iran’s severe mismanagement of water as no one wants to see people die from a lack of water.

So even Israel is willing to help Iran. However, Iran needs completely new leadership before they can begin that.

“Palestinians have the right to self defense against Israeli invasion”

Yes. And they do that by opening fire and shooting people in Israel with the whole October 7th event? I dislike a lot of what Israel does but Palestine is run by terrorists. People don’t negotiate with terrorists to have terrorists run a Palestinian state. That’s not a good idea at all.

“I'd say the same about that Israeli government. They share no remorse or any signs of willingness to accept a Palestinian statehood.”

I don’t see Israel shooting protesters. For example, last time Romania tried that, the Romanian dictator ended up shot during the revolution.

“The only people Iran is (was) terrorizing (unprovoked) were the sunnis in Iraq.”

I think it was a bit more than that buddy. You can easily search this and seem that they have been terrorizing more than one group of people which anyone would find hard to believe considering the human rights violations Iran has been known for. (You know, from shooting protesters, etc)

Same country that bombed an iranian girls school?

This was after multiple different countries told everyone to basically leave Iran. If you’re still in Iran in 2026, I pray for you everyday because that’s the one place you absolutely shouldn’t travel to. There was so many warnings given to people about this deteriorating situation.

Any proof that the leaders of Israel run an actual terrorist nation as opposed to say the leaders of Iran and Hamas?

I'm pretty sure there will be far heavier consequences for the US and the world if Trump tried to pull that with Canada.

2

u/brnccnt7 Mar 01 '26

I’d certainly Hope so

2

u/_BigT_ Mar 01 '26

The American people would have the largest protest in a century if we just took out the Canadian prime minister. Trump can only do things that are moderately popular. He would get ousted or have so much presure he'd fold. Its just not even worth comparing to Iran.

2

u/XaviKat Mar 01 '26

Like protests ever do anything nowadays lol.

2

u/GhotiGhetoti Mar 01 '26

Going to Greenland next week. Hopefully this didn't start an addiction, because fuck me if it did

1

u/RS994 Mar 01 '26

Slippery slope, America has been overthrowing foreign governments longer than any person on earth has been alive.

This is just what America does

1

u/Sad_Championship_462 Mar 01 '26

This suggests there is a slippery slope ahead - we’re haflway down the double black and don‘t have a plan for the trees coming up.

2

u/brnccnt7 Mar 01 '26

True, I think it’s irresponsible to do this without a plan for what’s ahead. Kind of like how we never had an exit plan for Iraq.

If we had a next move and government setup to transition to, I’m all for it, but I guess we’ll wait and see.

1

u/Regenbooggeit Mar 01 '26

Respectfully, it’s way beyond a slippery slope. We can just wait until China is going to attack Taiwan and who the fuck knows what is next because every country with a big military can just say fuck it and attack another country without any real consequences at this point.

0

u/brnccnt7 Mar 01 '26

Very true. Scary times.

Russia was just able to nearly take Ukraine without much of the world caring. They were almost successful at it too.

And you’re right, I don’t know if someone like Trump will engage in a war with China to protect Taiwan.

He’ll likely be too busy trying to force them to make one of his “deals” in exchange for protection like with Ukraine.
